Ive been moping around on the forums for some time, gathering lots of info, but its all seemed to been scattered, from different SPECIFIC guides. So i made a basic dual boot guide, that worked for me, and addresses some common problems, and problems I had. There is a lot of advice out there, and i took the better of the info i could, and compiled it into an easy guide:

Easy Guide to install OSX and dual boot with Windows 7

Things youll need: Some kind of OSX86 distro, A blank DVD, CPU-Z, a Windows reinstall disc(Don’t worry, well explain this later), and a flash drive.

First and most important, download CPU-Z and write down your system specs. We will need this to choose which options to install with.

After you have done that, go download a flavor like kalyway, ideneb, iatkos, iPC…etc.

Burn the .ISO image to a blank DVD

Now that we have our hardware identified, and out software we need, let’s go ahead and in Windows, head to Disk Management.

Partition your HDD by making some unallocated space, and name it ONE WORD(right click on your C: drive and hit shrink). This partition will be called MacOSX through the guide-The bare minimum is 10gigs, 20 is the minimum and 40 is all you’ll really need.

After you have made some free space, right click on the partition you created, and choose “new simple volume”. Choose the format as NTFS and click through the rest. Make sure now that the partitions description is “Healthy(Primary Partition)”. DO NOT SET THIS PARTITION AS ACTIVE.

Let us review our checklist: We have OSX86, WIN7 reinstall disk, a flash drive, we partitioned our HDD and formatted it as NTFS and it is a primary partition.

Ok great!

Pop in the OSX86 disk, and reboot. When your bios loads, hit enter or F12, and boot from the CD/DVD.

Darwin and chameleon will load up, and if all goes good it will boot up and you will get to the install screen.

You will click continue a few times to find your HDD isn’t listed!

Go to Disk Utility. You will notice your windows and fresh MacOSX partition listed there. But what’s this?? They are grayed out and can’t seem to be accessed. Click on the dropdown named MacOSX(NOT YOUR ENTIRE HDD) from your hard drive, and click the erase tab. Erase it as the format Mac OS X Journaled Extended, and keep the same name. It will erase and format that volume so the installer will recognize it. Don’t worry it wont erase your windows partition.

Close out of Disk Utility and head back to the installer. Now you can select that partition.

Now it’s time to customize your install. This is where CPU-Z came into play. You can browse through the list and choose the things that apply to your system. Don’t worry if your EXACT audio or wifi isn’t there. The important things to install are the correct chipsets, SMBIOS(this is your RAM), and kernel(whether your CPU is SSE/SSE2/SSE3). Kexthelper and OSX86 tools are a wise choice to get also.

Now you can go ahead and click install!

SKIP THE DISK CHECK

The install should take 10-15 minutes and your computer will reboot when it’s done.

Done yet? Ok.

Now that your computer has booted up, you will get to a welcome screen, and a setup guide.

What your computer hasn’t booted up??

Boot with –v and see where it hangs.

Try CPUS=1 if you have a dell computer or maxmem=XXXX (that’s your ram value) –x –s or –F might help.

If that fails, it might be time to go and do a reinstall, and try another kernel/chipset.

What? The welcome screen keeps looping?

Boot with –s

And then type:

/sbin/fsck –fy

/sbin/mount –uw /

passwd root

(enter your new password twice)

touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

reboot

------your new logon will be “root” and your password will be whatever you entered in the previous step

If it DID boot up, congrats! You’re on your new Hackintosh, but we aren’t done yet if your audio/wifi/Ethernet isn’t working.

Shut down, and when you get to the bootloader, hit enter.

You will see something like this:

System Reserved

C:

MacOSX

---to get to your windows side now, simply scroll to system reserved and hit enter---

If you DON’T see system reserved, you will need to boot from your windows install disc, and repair the bootloader. Then you will have to get EasyBCD and setup a boot entry for OSX.

Now that you are on your Windows side, go download VoodooHDA from google code. The newest one worked the best for me, but there are older versions to try.

There are countless IO80211family.kexts floating out there for your wifi card.

If you have a Broadcom card, install the one included with your distro. After installation, open /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211family.kext/Contents/Plugins/AirportBroadcom4311.kext/info.plist

There you will find a set of strings. Find the one that says: “14e4,4311” and change that one to your specific card id. Next, search on google for bcm43XX_enabler. Again, there are a few versions, and try all of them to see which one works(reboot between each one!!!).

If all goes well, your new Hackintosh will be fully operational, if some misc things aren’t working, check out some websites like: insanelymac.com and the OSX86 wiki for more help.
