Hi,

I'm new to this community, and this is my first post, but I have been reading this site for a few weeks and been able to create my own Hackintosh from its information provided.

I do have a few things to ask, mainly due to my inability to find the information about it and I will divide my post into 3 sections. My installation process, the issues I need to still solve and questions.

MY SETUP

Initially tried to do a DVD install directly (I own a mac too and bought a family leopard pack), but my mobo doesn't have AHCI so that proved impossible.

My PC

ASUS P5N-T Deluxe

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600

4GB Ram

ASUS nVidia 9600GT 1Gb

3x500Gb SATA HDD

IDE DVD Drive

OnBoard Audio and LAN

Software used

 • Snow leopard Install DVD
 • ##### CD
 • EmpireEFI boot CD
 • #####
 • Kext Helper

So I used a external 2.5 USB drive to install OS X from the Mac to the USB drive.

I then used the EmpireEFI cd to boot the USB OS on my PC. A couple of goes and I got there.

Installed ##### and boot again directly from the USB drive.

SATA HDD, DVD drive and LAN weren't working yet so I installed the following kext

 • AppleNForceATA.kext
 • AppleVIAATA.kext
 • IOATAFamily.kext
 • nForceLAN.kext

Reboot and presto, my SATA HDD and LAN is working. So downloaded Carbon Copy Cloner to copy all the USB to a new partition in one newly formated HFS+ drive. Took a few reboots, :( as CCC kept crashing the machine, but using incremental backup finally managed to get there.

Once finished, 1st reboot direct from SATA HDD didn't work, so had to use ##### CD to start it up. Reinstalled ##### again. After this ##### reinstall all working fine if i reboot directly to this SATA Drive. yay!

ISSUES

No IDE DVD Drive yet :(

I have W7 installed in another hard drive, and Ubuntu in the 3rd one. Used EasyBCD to try and do a triple boot system from the W7 as my main HDD. When I choose Mac (EFI) a different chameleon loader comes up and crashes. When I choose Mac (MBR) started fine, but since then I decided to delete the Ubuntu drive and now the Mac option in EasyBCD throws a 'Boot Chain Error'. If I reboot from the OS X HDD still works though...

OS X system seems fairly stable, but managed a couple of crashes...

QUESTIONS

 1. Can I get the DVD drive to work, or it easier to forget about it? (or use a external USB DVD Drive)
 2. If I try to only use Chameleon as startup drive and configure it what differences I may encounter? I still need W7 to work perfectly...
 3. Any software/tips to spot issues (like why the occasional crash) and solve them?

Thanks in advance, wouldn't have got as far without communities like this one.
