McPowr Posted October 3, 2010 Share Posted October 3, 2010 Hello everybody, i startet to build a hackintosh from these components using iAtkos s3 ... - Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard (BIOS Version? - where do i find this Info?) - Intel Core 2 quad Q6600 2.4 GHz - Asus EN8800 GTX - 4GB RAM - Kingston 2x 2GB PC2 - 6400 CL5 240 - 800MHz - 2 SATA HDDs - SATA PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212 Ok, here´s what i did. I am not a specialist and osx86 newbie. I couldn´t run the distro from Disc and constantly got the "Still waiting for root device" error. After reading that SATA stuff was causing problems i disabled all SATA functionality on the board. Didn´t have a IDE HDD, so i used USB drives instead. - restored iAtkos s3 to USB drive and used the Chameleon RC5 Bootloader on it - installed the distro from this USB drive to another usb drive - then bootet into OSX from the USB drive and restored OSX to one of the SATA drives (it never worked to directly install to the SATA drive - although it showed up in the list) About this mac - Post install I just checked the Graphics Enabler option for the install. Nothing under the VGA options in Install customization. The system booted with a 1024 resolution and didnt recognize my 8800 GTX. I used EFI Studio 1.1 in hope it would solve the problem (dreaming). After the card showed up in "About this mac", but no CI or Quartz support and im not sure if it was useful at all. The system started with a 1440 resolution, but other than that i dont know if it is running correctly. Since trying to change the resolution always grills it to a very low reso, i downloaded SwitchResX and at least now i can get the native 1680 resolution for my 22". Other than that a lot of specs in "About this mac" are wrong. - CPU specs - RAM is shown as 4x 1GB 667MHz - no Sound - but i have sound - no Ethernet - but i have internet - DVD drive specs look ok - but its not reading ... and probably more OK My questions 1. I am a little lost on how to get my GPU working correctly and how i can test this. I read about kexts and strings, but i just don´t know where to start. Maybe there is a installer (dreaming)? 2. Any idea on how to get the DVD drive working? 3. Any suggestions on what to do to tweak the system a little more. Maybe some easy to do tweaks and details? Cheers Mark As explained here: If CI and QE are not fully enabled for your graphics card(s), then you will probably experience so-called mouse pointer "tearing", display-screen artifacts such as horizontal dashes, poor display refresh-rates, fixed screen-resolution etc. In Leopard, System Profiler > Graphics/Displays would directly indicate this because Core Image would be shown as "Hardware Accelerated" and Quartz Extreme as "Supported" BUT this is no longer the case in Snow Leopard. However, there are 3 key ways to confirm that the Core Image functioning is hardware accelerated and that Quartz Extreme functioning is supported: 1. The top-menu bar is transluscent i.e. the underlying Desktop image is visible through the menu bar 2. When you run the Front Row app, it opens and functions fully.... 3. If, when you click on the Dashboard icon in Dock or run the Dashboard app and add a widget, either via the LHS "+" button and clicking on a widget icon in the bottom widgets bar, or by 'dragging and dropping' a widget, you should see a "real-time" water-ripple effect as the new widget is "dropped" into the Dashboard....... Yes, the hardware functioning is BIOS setting controlled........ Which drives are you referring to...........your SATA DVDRW is unlikely to read/burn DVD/CDs under OS X............. I did this install only yesterday and did not yet run any pro software. I think SLEEP/POWERMANAGEMENT is not working. I didnt enable the sleep fix at install, maybe that was a mistake. Sleep does not work under Snow Leopard on nForce MOBOs by all reports.......and AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext is usually disabled.........
