have u tried updating to 10.6.8 ?

 

I had 10.6.6 with legacy kernel, I installed 10.68 combo then installed corresponding legacy kernel before restart. then on boot, the wheel spun and just got darker and stuck!!!!

 

in verbose mode i could check it was still alive by plugging in and out USB's (it showed messages about devices on the dark screen) but i waited for 15 minutes but it didnt proceed from the black screen !!! i couldnt even see the last message because the whole screen turns dark in verbose and you can see the mouse flickering after few seconds !!!!

the update works !!! install 10.6.8 combo then nawcom legacy kernel 10.8.0 then run kext utility with framebuffer kext. Restart it should work. I had to install all kexts because i started from a clean 10.6 retail + myHack.

Windows coder myself but just moving into mobile development.

 

GX520 up and running!

 

Not sure if this is covered, but... One tip to people using windows Kboard google british-windows-3.keylayout (may have been windows-2 on the site) credit to some bloke called Phil (sorry Phil, cut, pasted and run, so navigated away from your page and missed your surname!!)

 

Off to do some coding now.. :-)

I would suggest that you read right through and then re-read to make sure you understand each step and/or download/print for future reference

 

Please read the EDITS before posting a question.

 

What you need for install

1- Access to a MAC or Hack (Running 10.0-10.6 doesn't matter which)

2- Mac OS X Install DVD

3- 8GB or larger External USB Drive or Flash Drive

4- myHack installer found here http://osx86.sojugarden.com/2010/06/myhack...r-1-1-released/

UPDATE- Updated myHack for the 10.6.4 Legacy Kernel http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=242

5-Carbon Copy Cloner (free) found here http://www.bombich.com/

6-One Kext each for Audio, Lan & Video Note for video with 10.6.3-4 you only need one kext for video but

if you are installing form an earlier DVD or image you will need to upgrade to at least 10.6.3, if not a DSDT

or GFX Strings will be needed (kexts posted below)

7-Common sense & patience.

 

This method differs from the method on the myhack site as I found this simpler. I will call the Mac or Hack used to do this "Donor" the USB drive "Install"

 

INSTALLATION -- Attach USB drive to "Donor" computer. Open Disk Utility and partition the USB drive. Use one partition Mac OS extended journaled and under options pick GUID partition table.

 

Insert Mac OS X Install DVD. DO NOT click on the install Mac OS X when it pops up.

In the Finder Go Menu- Go to folder-type /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages..Open 'OSInstall.mpkg NOT OSInstall.pkg or the upgrade.pkg ..MAKE SURE that the destination chosen is the external drive "Install" Under the custom tab, uncheck printer drivers, languages, fonts etc, if you need any of these, they can be installed later. When the install is finished, close the installer.

 

Note: If you get an installation failed message after install it is safe to ignore it, this is a common but inconsistent error. It happens when the installer can not “bless” the targeted partition and it believes your system will not be bootable.

 

Next (still on 'Donor" computer open the myHack.mpkg. It is most IMPORTANT that you change install location to the USB drive "Install"

Check the following options..com.apple.Boot.plist......Graphics Enabler....Chocolate Kernel......evOverboot.kext......IOATAFamily.kext....

..IONetworkingFamily.kext.....Elliotforcelegacy.kext.......NullCPUPowerManagement.kext--

Close myhack installer when finished.

Copy Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) and myHack.mpkg all these attachments to the USB disc "Install" They will be needed later.

Eject and unplug "Install" from "Donor"

 

TRANSFER TO OPTIPLEX -- Plug in USB "Install" to your Dell Optiplex. Boot dell and enter Bios (tap F2 key while starting) Under Drives/Sata operation choose Combination, save and exit bios now Tap F12 to enter boot options, choose USB device. When you see the Chameleon Boot loader screen tap the space bar and type -v If the boot hangs this will help. Be patient the first boot always take time.

You should get to the OS X setup screen, you will not have sound or ethernet or accelerated graphics yet, will fix that later.

 

TRANSFER from "Install" to Dell Optiplex Hard Drive-- You should now be booted into OS X on the Dell from the USB Drive. Open Disk Utility and partition the Dell Internal Drive. If you want to dual boot with Windows Later have two partitions on Mac os extended and one NTFS (or DOS) or you may want to have a partition for your OS X backup, or three partitions MAC-Windows-Backup. or just one partition. For simplicity now name your os x partition "MAC" Whatever you choose go ahead and do it.

 

When you have finished partitioning open CCC, set source to"Install", destination to "MAC" settings to copy all and erase destination unchecked. Go ahead and clone.

When cloning is finished run myhack again with the same settings, destination "MAC" .. or simpler run the Chameleon installer if you downloaded it earlier again select destination "MAC". Either method will do the same, that is, install the boot loader to the internal drive.

 

Now restart and boot from "MAC"

 

 

 

EDIT For Onboard Network problems. With some routers a "mac address has to be set. Thanks to Weazlmon for this solution

Open a terminal window and type (not sure if you need to sudo -s first):

 

cd /etc

sudo nano rc.local

 

edit the end of the file with:

 

ifconfig en0 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

 

where you replace the xx's with your actual MAC address

 

press ctrl-x, and select y to save it.

 

 

OK Video, Audio & Lan--- Move the kexts & kext utility to desktop, Unzip them all. Drag audio, ethernet & framebuffer kexts onto kext utility icon and it will install them and rebuild caches and permissions automatically. when it is finished reboot and all will be working.

 

 

UPDATE to 10.6.4 -- Don't update via Software Update

If you have 10.6.3 you can get away with the slightly smaller update here http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1049.

Run the 10.6.4 update but DON"T RESTART

Run MyHack installer (same settings as above)-DON"T RESTART

UPDATE to 10.6.5 --Don't update via Software Update

If you have 10.6.0 -10.6.3 Download the 10.6.5 Combo Update from Apple

If you have 10.6.4 you can download the smaller 10.6.5 Update.

Run the update - DON"T RESTART

Download and install 10.5 Legacy Kernel

If you upgrade "Chameleon" at any time you must replace the "Boot" file again. I suggest you leave the "Legacy Kernel" in place so that you can boot "legacy_kernel" at the boot prompt in case of problems.

I would suggest that you read right through and then re-read to make sure you understand each step and/or download/print for future reference

 

Please read the EDITS before posting a question.

 

What you need for install

1- Access to a MAC or Hack (Running 10.0-10.6 doesn't matter which)

2- Mac OS X Install DVD

3- 8GB or larger External USB Drive or Flash Drive

4- myHack installer found here http://osx86.sojugarden.com/2010/06/myhack...r-1-1-released/

UPDATE- Updated myHack for the 10.6.4 Legacy Kernel http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=242

5-Carbon Copy Cloner (free) found here http://www.bombich.com/

6-One Kext each for Audio, Lan & Video Note for video with 10.6.3-4 you only need one kext for video but

if you are installing form an earlier DVD or image you will need to upgrade to at least 10.6.3, if not a DSDT

or GFX Strings will be needed (kexts posted below)

7-Common sense & patience.

 

This method differs from the method on the myhack site as I found this simpler. I will call the Mac or Hack used to do this "Donor" the USB drive "Install"

 

INSTALLATION -- Attach USB drive to "Donor" computer. Open Disk Utility and partition the USB drive. Use one partition Mac OS extended journaled and under options pick GUID partition table.

 

Insert Mac OS X Install DVD. DO NOT click on the install Mac OS X when it pops up.

In the Finder Go Menu- Go to folder-type /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages..Open 'OSInstall.mpkg NOT OSInstall.pkg or the upgrade.pkg ..MAKE SURE that the destination chosen is the external drive "Install" Under the custom tab, uncheck printer drivers, languages, fonts etc, if you need any of these, they can be installed later. When the install is finished, close the installer.

 

Note: If you get an installation failed message after install it is safe to ignore it, this is a common but inconsistent error. It happens when the installer can not “bless” the targeted partition and it believes your system will not be bootable.

 

Next (still on 'Donor" computer open the myHack.mpkg. It is most IMPORTANT that you change install location to the USB drive "Install"

Check the following options..com.apple.Boot.plist......Graphics Enabler....Chocolate Kernel......evOverboot.kext......IOATAFamily.kext....

..IONetworkingFamily.kext.....Elliotforcelegacy.kext.......NullCPUPowerManagement.kext--

Close myhack installer when finished.

Copy Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) and myHack.mpkg all these attachments to the USB disc "Install" They will be needed later.

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext.zip EDIT For DSDT for Video see Post #4 below. If you intend to do the dsdt DON"T install frame buffer kext.

Eject and unplug "Install" from "Donor"

 

TRANSFER TO OPTIPLEX -- Plug in USB "Install" to your Dell Optiplex. Boot dell and enter Bios (tap F2 key while starting) Under Drives/Sata operation choose Combination, save and exit bios now Tap F12 to enter boot options, choose USB device. When you see the Chameleon Boot loader screen tap the space bar and type -v If the boot hangs this will help. Be patient the first boot always take time.

You should get to the OS X setup screen, you will not have sound or ethernet or accelerated graphics yet, will fix that later.

 

TRANSFER from "Install" to Dell Optiplex Hard Drive-- You should now be booted into OS X on the Dell from the USB Drive. Open Disk Utility and partition the Dell Internal Drive. If you want to dual boot with Windows Later have two partitions on Mac os extended and one NTFS (or DOS) or you may want to have a partition for your OS X backup, or three partitions MAC-Windows-Backup. or just one partition. For simplicity now name your os x partition "MAC" Whatever you choose go ahead and do it.

 

When you have finished partitioning open CCC, set source to"Install", destination to "MAC" settings to copy all and erase destination unchecked. Go ahead and clone.

When cloning is finished run myhack again with the same settings, destination "MAC" .. or simpler run the Chameleon installer if you downloaded it earlier again select destination "MAC". Either method will do the same, that is, install the boot loader to the internal drive.

 

Now restart and boot from "MAC"

 

 

 

EDIT For Onboard Network problems. With some routers a "mac address has to be set. Thanks to Weazlmon for this solution

Open a terminal window and type (not sure if you need to sudo -s first):

 

cd /etc

sudo nano rc.local

 

edit the end of the file with:

 

ifconfig en0 ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

 

where you replace the xx's with your actual MAC address

 

press ctrl-x, and select y to save it.

 

 

OK Video, Audio & Lan--- Move the kexts & kext utility to desktop, Unzip them all. Drag audio, ethernet & framebuffer kexts onto kext utility icon and it will install them and rebuild caches and permissions automatically. when it is finished reboot and all will be working.

 

 

UPDATE to 10.6.4 -- Don't update via Software Update

If you have 10.6.0-10.6.2 download the combo update here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048?viewlocale=en_US

If you have 10.6.3 you can get away with the slightly smaller update here http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1049.

Run the 10.6.4 update but DON"T RESTART

Run MyHack installer (same settings as above)-DON"T RESTART

Run 10.6.4 Legacy Kernel installer-DON"T RESTART

Re install framebuffer kext with kext utility

I have been working on this for days with my Dell GX620. I previously had a distro install for 10.5, now I'm installing on a fresh HD 10.6.7.

 

I followed the instructions. When booting from my USB drive (the myhack install image) I get to this and it then hangs:

Here's How I got mine working, after about a week of messing around making the following show-stopping errors:

-Will not work on 10.6.7 DVD

-myHack 2RCx does not work, you NEED myHack 1.1

-Doing -v at chameleon boot loader is not enough, you NEED -v -x

 

So here's what did work (plus extra stuff you may not need) PS i wrote this to myself!.......

10.6.3 install to USB drive.

myHack 1.1 install on that USB install.

added the  AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext.zip ( 65.67K ) listed to Extra and S/L/E (?) because I was not sure into which one it should be loaded.

 

You need to do not just -v, but -x also that it loads up ALL the kexts.

 

Enter account information etc.

 

It can now reboot direct to the USB drive.

 

It said that frame buffer and another kext (can't remember) were improperly installed and so can't be used. I think this is to say that dragging and dropping into the directory of a system you're not currently running isn't enough.

 

Once at desktop (via other usb or otherwise) copy appleintegratedFramebuffer, AppleAC97audio, applebcm575ethernet, kextutility, and chameleon to desktop.

 

(figure out your mac address this is mine) 00:e2:e3:ee:d1:2a is my en0 mac address

Made a backup on desktop. A dmg.

downloaded 10.6.8 combo update v1.1 and nawoms legac_kernel 10.8.0v2.pkg

made a backup to desktop.

SwitchResX: custom resolution: CVT-RB, 1890x1038, 59.894Hz Vert Scan rate, Pixel clock 132.5 not interlaced, both positive syncs true.

Used CCC to clone from USB to internal HD

 

Then used Chameleon RC5pre8 as boot loader. To install it I used the Dr Hurt's installer (NB I initially tried tonymacx86's RC5pre6 which had a weird effect with graphical (non verbose) startup…It first booted up with a blue hue over the screen and i couldn't click or type, but i COULD move the mouse… weird.)

Ok i have managed to get all working great stuff. I am now making a image of the system and i will try to go for Lion i think it doesnt work but i will give it a try.

 

One question can also install Chameleon 2 RC5 without problems !

Anyone having issues with the app store after 10.6.8 update? I keep getting the "device or computer could not be validated"

 

I've added "EthernetBuiltIn/y" and "PCIUD/1" to my com.apple.boot and still nothing. Anyone else?

 

I had the same problem on my GX520 this trick lets app store works.

 

To do this i:

- downloaded EFI Studio, selected Ethernet, selected Add Device. Then clicked write to com.apple.boot.plist.

- Then went to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/apple.com.boot.plist and selected the new key and string it added.

- Then coped this string and pasted into the /Extra/apple.com.boot.plist file and saved.

 

Then important STEP!

- Remove all network devices from System Preferences/Network.

- Delete deleting library>preferences>system configuration> NetworkInterfaces.plist file.

 

* Finally, Reboot.

 

After reboot, go to System Preferences/Network add add devices. Click (Ethernet) FIRST!! Then add the other adapters you use to connect to the internet.

 

Voila. App Store now works

Hey Pepto, thanks for the fast reply. Sadly this did not work for me. When I try and do the "write to" in efistudio it gives me an error. So what I did was I just copied it straight from the window, which was

	<string>0x01</string>
	</dict>

and i pasted it in my com.apple.boot.plist, then I did the rest of your steps, but still get teh same error. Thanks

Did you have admin rights !!! and the string you copied is not the right one, mine string is

wich has made efi string maybe you can use it to if you have a GX520 paste it in the plist what i have posted

it hangs up on

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin: :Start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement ) timed out

Got a 100% working gx620... Pentium D 2.8ghz 2 gig RAM, retail Snow Leopard, [url=&quot;http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/&quot;]#####[/url] legacy, got audio, video and ethernet working from "gx520 kexts etc" zip posted on this forum. Other kexts didn't seem to work.

 

The ethernet address I got by running Ubuntu from a USB stick... then running a boot script that fiddles with the gubbins every time it restarts and makes the ethernet work.

 

Now using a micro USB to boot (used anval and [url=&quot;http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/&quot;]#####[/url] legacy to create it).

 

Running Logic very well. Very stable, no crashes or other wierdness. Total cost was £69(Dell) + £5(USB) plus retail Snow Leopard.

Thanks for the guide! I did everything you said in the guide, but I couldn't get my Dell GX620 (Pentium 4 HT 2.80GHz) to boot from USB stick. When attempting to boot from USB stick, it says: "Selected boot device not available - Strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility.". How could I fix this?

 

Edit: Okay, my computer doesn't like the GUID partition table very much. So I made a MBR partition of my USB stick, restored the Snow Leopard install and restarted it. It actually works, but now I get kernel panic. I'll post a picture the kernel panic later. I've uploaded the picture of the kernel panic.

I have a dell GX620 Pentium D 2.8 I followed the entire guide using a dumb drive and a external hard drive but the computer won't go to the install screen, the boot loader show up but when go to installation restarts the computer.

Any advice?

Just wanted to drop a line in here and let everybody know I'm working on a new guide, that will allow you to install retail.

 

When I first obtained this computer, I looked for an OS X guide, due to being fairly new to the Hackintosh game (outside of Netbooks, anyway), and found this guide, and didn't care for it's install method. I'm now sitting on 10.6.8 and am writing a new guide to install from a USB stick with a retail image on it, and I'll have all the latest patches and updates that have been posted in the thread in one neat package. Only setback I've had, is I can't get the stock kernel to work, but it's not like that stops me from running OS X, so look for it in the next few weeks.

 

Just did this, AWESOME GUIDE. thanks. I updated to 10.6.6, wanted to know if appstore update to 10.7.1 is good idea or not.

 

No, 10.7 requires a 64-bit processor which you do not have
