Navi123
Hey all, Just got my Hackintosh running on my HP dv2550se. Of course, the Intel 3945 wifi card doesn't work, as the drivers aren't quite ready yet (thanks fellas, for the hard work!). So I tried replacing the card with a Ralink RT2600e. Unfortunately, HP thinks it's funny to only let their official wifi cards work, and it gave the dreaded 104 error. So, to get around the problem, I began looking around at modifying the BIOS to accept a third party wifi cards. It seems that many HP notebooks in the dv25xx series have similar configs; even the BIOS revision numbers are the same (so are the changes in the changelogs). My question is, would flashing the BIOS of a similar model (in the dv25xx series) that is already modded so that the whitelist is removed? And how likely would the Phoenix BIOS crisis disc allow me to reflash, in case it gets flashed incorrectly/doesn't work? Thank you so much for your time, and providing a forum where newbies like me can ask questions, much appreciated. EDIT: thought I should mention that the method of installation was using ##### (supported) and a retail Snow Leopard disc. Thanks again.
Navi123
Apologies for bumping, for some reason the edit button was not visible. Anyway, I am a fool I was tossing and turning last time, trying to get some sleep, when the answer hit me: why not open the 2 bios files in a hex editor (HxD, runs great under wine) and compare them? So I did I compared the latest bios for my notebook F.2E (dv2550se) with the latest bios for a dv2503, version F.2E as well. Turns out their completely identical. This is very interesting indeed, and I apologize if this is common knowledge already, it's news for me I'm going to compare a few more bios files, and get myself familiar with the Phoenix Crisis Recovery disk, before I attempt flashing. Hopefully, I can find a bios that's already had it's whitelist removed/modified.
