Hi All!

New here to building and OSx86, but have lots of help with the building part from experienced friends. Looking to build a really solid and strong system that'll last for years w/ upgrades. So mostly just looking to make sure all is compatible, especially the vid card.

- Believe I found this board on tonymac's site so figured it would be a good start.

However I may downgrade to Intel Core i5-655K Clarkdale 3.2GHz 4MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Unlocked Desktop Processor BX80616I5655K. Depends on overall cost of build.

- I can easily switch to the ATI Radeon 5770 if needed. Would just prefer to run SLI than CrossFire.

I'd like to keep the cost at around 1k if I can. Please let me know what you think of build! Especially if anything isn't compatible/outrageously difficult to configure, or if there's a good upgrade for just a little price increase :D

Thanks again!! Love the forums and looking forward to my first hackintosh build!!

Alright so I think I've decided to take the leap and upgrade my mobo and cpu slightly after seeing a mention in another post on here bout the good deal of the i7 950 right now.

So my changes would be to:

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R LGA 1366 Intel X58

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16813128423R

Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115211

Will this continue to work with everything I've put together? Any suggestions as to compatibility?

There is no support for non-GF100 Fermi cards in OS X, and the Fermis that do work run at half the speed of a 9800 GTX+, with no CUDA support and an annoying vsync problem.

Also, you cannot do SLI or Crossfire in OS X, there is no driver support for it. You can, however use more than one video card at the same time.

I have that same Seagate hard drive in my PC.

Ah, alright. Thanks a ton for that advice, definitely saving my ass here :D I was tentatively planning on dual booting on 2 hard drives in the future, hence the SLI, but not a big deal.

If I go with GIGABYTE GV-R577UD-1GD Radeon HD 5770 1GB instead I'm guessing my stupid choice of GPU would be fixed?

And yes, I didn't think you could run multiple GPU's on OSx86, but discovering you could was another reason to upgrade the mobo to one with 2 slots. Will eventually add a second.

Oh, and I changed my memory to a triple channel due to board and CPU upgrade, to CORSAIR XMS 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

Thanks again for the help!

I had used those builds as references when I first started looking, but now that I look through again I'm surprisingly similar to the CustoMac Pro 2010 build  Just trying to min-max the build right now as much as I can!

As of right now the build is:

MB:Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R LGA1366

CPU:i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06 GHz LGA 1366

GPU:Gigabyte GV-R577UD-1GD Radeon HD 5770

RAM:Corsair XMS 6 GB (3x2) 240 DDR3 Triple Channel

HD:Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB

CD:LG 22x IDE Model #GH22NP20

Case:Thermaltake Armor A90 Black Steel/Plastic Gaming ATX Mid-Tower

Comes out to approximately $930 on newegg. What would you suggest for a wireless card? I haven't even started to look into what works, so if someone can just recommend a good one that'd be perfect!
