What I do not understand is why my graphic card is not recognized from the start.

It should be the same as in the mac pro...

What?

Taken from apple, mac pro tech specs:

NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT with 256MB of GDDR2 SDRAM, one single-link DVI port, and one dual-link DVI port

It looks like they use the 7300GT too.

So you are oblivious to the EFI versus BIOS issues?

of course not, though probably I don't understand it completely, as I thought this would be a drivers issue and not a firmware issue.

Better: I just thought that the drivers for the graphic card would be already out.

Anyway, I guess I'll play more with it, trying to fix it back to the standard res...

... as I thought this would be a drivers issue and not a firmware issue.

While BIOS PC video cards work in a Mac Pro, they only work for Windows, not OS X, so the firmware issue is explicit at a basic level.

Moreover, Apple's Nvidia driver may require a special version of 10.4.7, which should be merged with the main branch in 10.4.8, giving some hope it might be usable with BIOS PC cards in the future.

Ok I´ve changed nthe Biossettings and now i can install osx. I´ve setted "sata configuration" in "compatible" at that helps (with AHCI nothing works).

But after the instalaltion (wich works very well) i cannot boot my osx system. I see the splashscreen but it freezes and i only can lookk for hours and hours the applelogo :(

I remember you my hardware:

-Asus P5B (965) Deluxe Wifi

-Conroe 6600

-SATA-DVD

Any Idea?

Have this working on my GA-965P-DS3 now :D

Only troubles are getting full SATA(II) support. It's in PIO mode, so write/read events are at a painful 4MB/s :P

In XBench I get 190 without the Hard Disk Drive test, though :P

  • 4 weeks later...

i too have the same problem that most have. i have an Intel DG965WH with a Pentium D 950. Im using an HP DVD writer that works on my HP DC7600. I went out and bought the dang sata/ide adaptor but still no luck. i get the still waiting for root device error. i treid swapping the hd from my working osxbox but i get a kernal panic. im lost. i messed with pretty much all the bios settings and still nothing :D im sad. i have a fully fucntional box and it scores about 115 on xbench but i wanted to build a bad ass machine. i hope to get a core2duo soon. i picked up the 965 becuase the 975 was about 220 bucks. i just hate to give up on this board since i was so exited when i got it. i hope someone finds a solution soon. thanks to everyone for testing the 965 boards.

Dual Core works on the 10.4.4 kernel, just not for core duos but it works for Pentium D's. Alos i have a Intel board, D975XBX based board, sure it was a bit expensive but its a awesome board, the only thing that is lettingme down is my CPU (32-bit, Pentium 4 3.0ghz @3.5 Ghz), its still bloody fast but considering i was goign to buy a quad core Woodcrest system at the end of the year (when i was still working in 3D) i am quirte ahppy with it, i boought my 975XBX board as it is new, fast, supports Conroe, and has blue heatsinks :thumbsdown_anim:.

I too wil get the E6300 or the model above it, as they overclock extremely well.

I got 1 gb ddr2 ram, but its genric which is ok, but i need tighter timings, i have heard that Pqi sell extremely good RAM that doesnt cost your left {censored}, or if you wanted all out extrem RAM, get a pair of Orange GeIL modules, they are teh best.

My motherboard doesnt have the new GMA3000 but i do have a EAX1600XT card which is usuable (hahah, more than usuable). My motherboard also has room for 3 PCI-E x16 slots so if the Mac Pro ever gets Crossfire i will too. This is a good feature too as ATi has announced its new physics technoligy (being able to use any X1000 based card as a dedicated physics card, as long as the card is above a X1600 i think) so it provides good future proofing, everyhting works out of the box with this Mobo, apart from the Audio, which is pissing me off but is easily fixed (just that the sound comes out of the Line Out port)

It all comes down to EFI i think, Leopard will (should) embrace the standard tighter than Tiger has and that will make it harder for it work on BIOS pc's.

EDIT: Or you could just buy one of these (ala the Ageia phyx card adn the nvidia garbage but it'd be a good system otherwise

Could you let me know the model number of the Intel board that you have. I've just bought one with the G965 chipset which doesn't work with OSX 10.4.6.

Thanks

The 946GZ chipset itself should be fine (it uses the ICH7 southbridge): http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/946...Z/prodbrief.pdf

While the GMA 950 drivers _might_ work with the GMA 3000 on that board, I do not know for a fact that they do. You also need to check the Hardware Compatability Lists (and / or search the forum) for information related to the specific LAN and audio chips on the Intel D946GZISSL. But I would assume they work (or in the case of audio workable).

My findings:

Asus P5W-DH

Core 2 Duo E6600

2GB Corsair PC4\6400

10.4.7

CPU @ 3 GHz, 334 MHz FSB

Memory @ PC7200

Works with 2 cores, no problems

BUT

10.4.8

CPU @ 3 GHz -> big problems with stability

So..

CPU @ 2,40 GHz -> some stability problems, a lot system freezes.

When booting with CPUS=1 the OS works, but I got some little artifacts on the screen.

So basicly 10.4.8 is {censored} at this config...

Are here people who got the Core 2 Duo E6600 with 2 cores running stable ?
