I also don't think its forced, or that you're 'born {censored}' or straight. I've always been straight, and have never felt homosexual attraction but I sure wasn't 'born straight'. I honestly think it has to do with nurture and your childhood a lot more than it does with how you're 'destined' to be.

There's no definitive answer on this, but I feel that I can speak from experience :P

The most common things that happen tend to be:

1. A guy gets to about the age of 12 and thinks "Oh, I'm {censored}"

2. A guy will lead a completely straight lifestyle until about 14/15 and then suddenly realise they are bi, and soon after, {censored}.

From what I have observed, guys tend not to be born {censored}, but perhaps with a predisposition to be {censored} in later life.

After all, I've had two girl friends (more than some of my straight friends :P ), so I've not always been completely {censored}.

I knew from a very early age ( 5 year) that I was different.

I am pretty sure, being {censored} is something you are born with. Just like someone is born like a girl or boy. Its in the brain structure ( hypothalamus).

just read all the work of {censored} Swaab, Ph.D./M.D:

{censored} Swaab, M.D., Ph.D., Director, Netherlands Institute for Brain Research, et al., published the research study, "Brain Research, Gender, and Sexual Orientation," (Journal of Homosexuality, Vol. 28, No. 3/4, pp. 283-301, 1995):

"n a sample of brains of homosexual men we did find that an area of the hypothalamus called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) contains twice as many cells as the SCN of a heterosexual group...

It appears very unlikely that homosexual behavior as such would increase the neuronal number in any brain structure. Yet the development of SCN cell numbers suggest that the explanation for the large SCN in homosexual men most likely may be found in early brain development.

At birth, the SCN contains only 13-20% of the adult number of cells, but in the postnatal period development is rapid. Cell counts reach a peak around 13-16 months after birth. The SCN cell numbers found in adult homosexual men were in the same order of magnitude as found around 13-16 months after birth. The normal pattern is that the cell numbers decline to the adult value of about 35% of the peak values.

In homosexual men, therefore, this postnatal cell death in the SCN seems to have been curtailed."

No, but I have no real issue with homosexuality. It's someones sexual preference. Now, me being me, I could never really never see why some things are arousing, while some aren't. As well as I could never do it, the thought of it just doesn't agree with me.

All you're saying is that when puberty hits, sexual attraction starts and {censored} kids are faced with the challenge of formulating a {censored} identity despite a lifetime of programming for the opposite.

Well, I'm just one example of a person who was attracted to the naked male body well before puberty. The earliest examples I can think of are from the third grade. Did I think of myself as {censored}? No. I didn't fully understand my sexuality until around age 13, and even in High School I had some non-sexual but strong attractions to two girls which complicated things a little. {censored} men can have attractions to women just as hetero men can have attractions to men. But, they tend to be non-sexual, no matter how strong.

I'm sorry, asexual? Wow, they must be big porno renters.
Unless you mean to joke, I think you are mistaken here, asexuals are individuals who do not experience or lack of sexual attractions.

I don't have anything against {censored}, however, I do have a {censored} classmate who always tries to "hit on me". That pisses me off!
You must be very handsome or they are a bit strange. If you are that hot, must got hit on by a lot of pretty girls as well?

Sorry I am late to this thread, but I just signed up to the forum and I just want say some of my opinions. I can't beleive that at this time of age this issue haven't been sort through that just to show my disapointment in the slow progress of social justice.

I am tired of hearing about people in general complaining about {censored} people parades and {censored} showing off themselves, but I think I'm lucky because I don't live in California and doesn't watch television (this is my asumption where you find those things, I don't go to bars also). I think the flamingside of gaydom is a completely different subject and should be classify as such, because it is more about attention seeking and sometimes "in a middle of a transition peroid" or just abnormal, I actually too am annoyed by this, but I just avoid them. I really haven't seen gaydom being oppress onto me yet, there isn't yet a {censored} Jehovah Witness knocking on my door. Although I sure have seen a lot of straight people being naked, having sex outside, and doing other crazy things on television and movies, and from that analogy point of view, maybe {censored} people should too be allow to be taken offended by these unruly straight behaviors. The erractic behaviors couples with homosexually is a seperated psychology subject, like that guy (and this is too extreme as an example) John Wayne Gacy, that is not an example of a mentally healthy {censored} person.

From what I experienced, normal {censored} people act just as normal people do, except that are sexually attracted to other men who they think are attractive to themselves and enjoy their comfort. They do not walk into a room, see another man, and instantaneously be attracted to him. This is similar to a women meeting you for the first 5 minutes and knows if she will have sex with you or not (extreme example). A normal {censored} person with logical thoughts would be attracted to another individual in the same basis that a straight person be attracted to the opposite sex.

(this is a reponse to above post) I think with more experience individuals finds out more about themselves. But, there are always potentials and sometimes activator, sometimes due to bad experience, and this is a widely known subject; children being born into Catholic families who are too authoritives. I think both can be true, one can be born {censored} or one can become more attracted to men overtime, but in the end I don't see it as a bad thing if the individual accept and be at peace with his/her orientation. This will offend a lot of people, I don't think anyone have a completely 100% disposition into any catergories, and especially we should stop imposing catergories to our political views.

Interestingly, in Chinese cultures long ago, gaydom was to some degree tollerable, in privacy, as long as the individual followed Confucius code, (get marry to the opposite sex, be filial, respect and take care of your elders, etc). It have actaully taken a backward in the mordern day, one reason due to communist propaganda. Spartn and Athens are other examples.

And as a mac user... i don't feel any superior or different from PC users... it's just a matter of taste. I work for a creative company, and as a creative person i preffer macs over pcs, and that's all!
I took an art class as an elective in college and I had to do a presentation on the projector screen, and I asked my art teacher to change the Windows' resolution. She said "I don't know, I use a Mac". And I accidently said "That's not an excuse." She looked at me like this  .

:jester: As for the {censored} parade + {censored} exhibitionism complaint. I have just this to say - Paris Hilton, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears straight women, many straight men's fantasies flashed body parts and got famous-er for that.
