What file systems can os x read?

Topic is pretty self-explanatory, I'm looking for common ground between windows and os x now that both are semi-functioning at least. I was under the impression that FAT32 was os x-readable, but with no luck when booting, or when trying to manually mount.

Anyone able to cast any light on this?

OSX operates on HFS+

It can read/write FAT32

It can read (sometimes) NTFS (but not write)

Windows can read/write FAT 32 and NTFS

With MacDrive installed, Windows can read/write HFS+

Fat 32 has a 4 GB file limit. HFS+ does not.

hm ok so I wasn't entirely wrong about FAT32, but I'm not sure why I can't get to the large empty FAT32-formatted section of my external USB drive from os x. I'll try mac drive in windows and see if I can just do it that way.

Thanks for the info.
