Flashing ASRock G31M-GS BIOS for Hackintosh

I've been attempting to flash my BIOS as per Grigios guide here but have failed to do so despite days of trying.

I have been using bootable CDs for this since this seemed like the best option for me.

When burning my CDs, I've used Cyberlink DVD Suite and burning them as a data CD. When I choose to make the disc bootable, the only option I can choose under it is 'Use a bootable image file' and I leave it at the default setting (c:\program files\cyberlink\power2go\bootimg.img)

The files I put on the CD are:

the .rom file that Grigio links to in his guide

the ASRock flash utility from here

and DOS 6.2

I can get the command prompt line up but I can seem to get the wrong command. I've tried a:\flash g31mgs130 a:\afudos g31mgs130 and several other variations.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

Thanks

Colin

You need 2 CD

1) with Dos bootable

2) with flash utility and ROM file

You boot the system With the DOS CD and the remove the dos CD and use the second CD.

I'm not sure! I downloaded version 6.22 from hereL http://www.bootdisks.us/ms-dos/5/ms-dos-bo...-cd-images.html

I have controlled, there are the files.

Boot your PC with the DOS CD and post an image of the screen.

I have attached the picture.

It says Driver R: = Driver BANANA Unit 0 so I put in put R: and tried to put the code "afudos g31mg103.rom" in here and got the error "problem opening file for reading"

Put the second CD in the drive

type:

R: <return>

dir <return>

and post an image of the screen

Ahh! It says G31M-S P1.80 in the setp up. The manual I got with it told me it was the G31M-GS though. I'll try the other bios file.

Okay! I updated the BIOS and changed the settings like you said in the guide. Unfortauntely, it still freezes at the apple screen.

I've ran it in verbose mode but this also freezes.

Here is the screen shot when it freezes in verbose mode. If the picture if not clear enough, please let me know and I'll try get another camera to take the picture.

This error is tipic of not flashed bios.

Are you sure to have flashed with the patched rom?

I think so. It was iAtkos 10.5.5 I think - I installed it almost 2 years ago. Unfortunately, the partition was read-only so I couldn't place your patched DSDT.aml in to it.

I think that the only way is reinstall.

Okay, many thanks.

Can I be a pain and ask one more question please? I can't access the hard drive partition my my OSX was on via Ubuntu or Windows XP. Do you know if there is any way I can save the files on there? I have a lot of work on there that I need so I would be willing to pay for help if necessary.

  • 8 months later...

Thanks to the guru that put this bios flash together, you are a star.

Dont know if this helps but I changed the file name of the .rom file so that it was only 8 letters. As Dos cant display longer filenames than this and puts a ~1 in. Potentially this could {censored} things up.

In Dos type rename g31m-s_130.rom g31ms130.rom

then do afudos.exe g31ms130.rom

You probably need to use another mac, keep working at it.
