NV 8800 GTS 512 + Quadro NVS 295 = Quadro not recognized. 10.6.4 - EFI Strings?

Hey everyone. Working on a new build that I need to be triple headed. It's a Q9550 on a Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR. I installed using Kakewalk, with just the 8800 GTS 512 in the machine, updated to 10.6.4 and patched the audio. Everything is fine with that.

I then added a Quadro NVS 295 in the first PCI-E x1 slot (mobo has only one x16 slot.)

The card is found but not properly recognized. System profiler shows

I think I can solve this with EFI strings? According to this thread:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=223847

there should be support for the Quadro NVS 295 in nVidia's 19.5.8f03 release?

EDIT: Actually, I think the list given is just of CUDA capable GPUs. The released driver linked appears to only support the GTS 285. This thread makes it clearer:

Is a string the correct way to approach this, and could anyone explain the process of implementing that to me or point me towards an approachable guide? I've read a few threads on this, but they all leave me a little confused.

What does Kakewalk install by default? Am I better off using nvinject or something else other than strings?

Thanks!

Update -- can't seem to boot w/just the Quadro in the system--get a KP.

Found this today:

but the download link is broken. Hopefully the release isn't being withdrawn. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this driver might do the trick.....

EDIT: this one works -- http://us.download.nvidia.com/Mac/Quadro_C...5a23-Retail.zip

Doesn't say it supports the NVS series, but I'll probably give it a shot as if I can't get this to work I'll have to swap boards and go to a dual 8800 GTS setup.

Hello to all!

This is the first post for me in this forum.

I'm interested to use an nVidia NVS 295 for a new Apple compatible for my studio: mobo P7P55D LE, cpu i7 870. I've seen this video card in an italian estore, and the description is:

"Dettagli tecnici: Compatibilità Mac , 2560 x 1600 Pixel, passive, 1 pieces, Tecnologia di processo parallela No, HDCP No, 8, SFF; Processore: NVIDIA GeForce, Quadro NVS 295, - Megahertz; Memoria: 256 MB, GDDR3-SDRAM, 64 Bit, 11.2 Gb/sec., 11.2 gigabyte per second; Requisiti di sistema: 23W, Windows Vista/XP/2000, Linux".

This video card is branded by Fujitsu Siemens, but produced by PNY (http://www3.pny.com/NVIDIA-Quadro-NVS-295-x1-for-DisplayPort-P2803C364.aspx).

The goals of this video card, for me, is the passive cooling (no fan!!), the dual out and the size (single slot!!).

This is really the best for my needs... Anyone knows what's the real compatibility wit the Mac??

Thank you to all!

Cheers,

Enrico
