Before I explain the problem that I am having, I should say that this is my third install and I've had the same experience each time. I've pretty much nailed it down to the Combo-Update that follows the 10.6.4 update.

Here is the order of events:

1) I install 10.6 using method for P6T Deluxe V2 mobos listed here

2) change plist to set graphicsenabler to no (just so I'm bootable)

3) At this point I'm bootable and have ethernet connectivity. Run Combo Update...various things are updated including iTunes, Safari, and the major update to 10.6.4.

4) reboot after update and everything still works.

5) Check again for updates and there are more available including Graphics Update (which is the one I'm shooting for because I have an XFX HD 5770).

6) The update begins normally and towards the end I get a message asking me to physically reboot the system...if I follow the instruction I end up in a loop.

I've tried booting in Safe Boot mode. I've tried booting with the Boot 132 disc...

Here is the message...

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated as I'm totally stuck.

Cheers.

use -v (verbose mode) and post a picture

Thanks for your reply and sorry it's taken so long to post back.

I did what you asked and this is what I got...

Now, I can see a panic there (hope the image quality isn't too poor) but I don't know what it could be. I removed everything other than the hardware in my sig. I have flashed the Graphics Card with the Vanilla rom found at NetKas.

Any ideas?

thanks,

Remove ATIRadeonX3000.kext

From windows with macdrive in /System/Library/Extensions

or boot with -s flag ands at the prompt type:

mount -uw / <return>

cd /System/Library/Extensions <return>

rm -rf ATIRadeonX3000.kext <return>

reboot <return>

May boot, bu you lose graphic acceleration.

Do you mean that I will lose Graphics Acceleration after I remove the .kext? Or will I lose acceleration for the boot with -s?

So I did some research and clearly you mean that I will lose Graphics Acceleration altogether by removing that Kext. This isn't something I am happy to do unless it's an absolute last resort. Any other ideas? How come running the Graphics Update caused this problem? I'm entirely stuck!

Once again, thank you for your help.

What I did, by way of happenstance, is that I installed 10.6.0 using a 7300 LE video card first. After everything was working, I eventually upgraded the video card to the 9600 GSO.

I was having the hardest time with the 9600 GSO upgrade(see thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...;#entry1545254). but finally got it working perfectly.

Ultimately, i removed all video .kext enablers and video injectors, then run ##### system utilities.

mine was working with or without GraphicsEnable activated in com.apple.Boot.plist

finally, a cool guy also coded something to the com.apple.Boot.plist to allow my hackintosh to properly display the id of the 9600 GSO card in system profiler.

I haven't done a clean new install starting with the 9600 GSO card, but if that is giving you trouble, try starting with other more compatible nVidia card and just upgrade to the 9600 GSO.

hope this helps

Removing the kext is temporary to boot the system; once started the system you can install the right kexts for you graphic card with graphic acceleration.
