Weebs
I currently own a Sony Vaio, not sure what model but it's pretty old, about 4 years. I've been saving up for a 17" iMac with an added 512MB of RAM (Making 1GB) But I recently relised there is also the 13" MacBook for the same price, and really the same system as a iMac but smaller HD, and a worse gfx card. It uses a GMA 950 while the iMac uses a 128MB X1600 running at 500MHz. One thing thats really important to me is playing games on a computer. I'm looking to be playing CS Source, Call of Duty 2, Battlefield 2, and Halo PC. BF2 and CS over Bootcamp, but I'm unsure whether or not the GMA 950 will run theese games at decent frame rates. -TiLT-
As far as I know the GMA 950 is not powerful enough to run all those games at decent frame rates. Maybe you could save some extra money and wait for the next macBook Pro model, to buy a discontinued older macBook Pro at a cheaper price. Its x1600 will run those games and it is overclockable unter windowsXP if extra cooling is available (coolingpad)
Weebs
Only problom is I'm kinda in a need of a computer asap becuase my current one is just breaking down and not really near it's full potential anymore. And I've never really been comftrable with buying used/discontinued items.
Swad
I would at least wait until WWDC before buying, since you'll find out then if they're going to update either model. To me, it sounds like the iMac is best way to go. Also, there have been many times fewer problems with the iMac than with the portables like the MacBook (which has heat, whining, shut downs, etc). Weebs
Hopefully a new iMac model is coming out . Also I've read a few rumor pages that Leopard will enhance speeds of Intel macs 2x-3x faster than they were on Tiger as well as a speed boost for PowerPC processers. Has this been confirmed? G_G
I'm currently running one of these 17" beauts. The iMac's x1600 comes in real handy when you want to play games with Next Gen contents. But if you're nowhere near the gaming sort I guess you can lower your expectations and go with a MacBook. K, I'll go back to my Sin Ep 1 now. vandetta
Yes, I agree. If you're playing game, MacBook is not a good choice. If you don't need portable, I would suggest go for iMac.
