Radeon 4300 Mobility on Inspiron 1545

- Inspiron 1545 Core 2 Duo P8800

- ATI Mobility Radeon 4300 HD

 

After much trial and error I finally have Snow Leopard 10.6.4 booting successfully on my Dell Inspiron 1545.

(Installed using SNOWLEO iso downloaded from TPB).

 

At first I could only get it running in safe mode (-x).

Regular boot would always end up at a white-ish screen with black/white snow or weird pixelation.

 

But then after reading some thread on here I tried removing ALL the kexts that start with ATI.

Magic - the next boot came up successfully without safe mode, I also have sound now!!

 

The main problem I have right now is 1024x768 resolution - I don't think it recognizes my graphics hardware.

I've spent hours going over posts in these forums but I'm just not finding the answers.

 

Some of the things I THINK I have learned

- the Mobility Radeon cards will never support QE/CI (is this still accurate?)

- it's possible to get native resolution but tricky

- there may be a dong's kext for my card but I cant find it

- i may have to set the resolution in my com.apple.boot.plist file?

 

Sorry guys - total noob here to both Mac and Linux so I'm really struggling.

Windows drivers I get - this, not so much.

 

Any help is mucho appreciated.
