wangerman
Firstly great forum. I am fairly familiar with a hackintosh as I have already have a dell mini 10v running 10.6.4 but I now have a real problem trying to install osx on my desktop. I have just changed my motherboard over from an oem MSI unit to a asus P5KPL-C/1600 as I understand the asus boards are fairly easy to hack with osx. On my old MSI board I could get as far as loading osx using Hazard or Snow osx but always ended up with kernel panic. I had hoped by changing the board I could overcome this but now I cant even boot any cd's. It gets as far as the apple logo then hangs and needs to be rebooted I cant even get to the install screen!!!. I know the cd drive is ok as I can boot straight into a live ubuntu desktop. Everything else is the same except the motherboard and I feel I have tried every conceiveable bios setting What is going on ??? If it helps my specs are as follows Pentium dual core E2160 1.8ghz Ati Radeon HD3650 Seagate 200gb sata HDD Western Digital 40gb sata HDD ( I have tried both drives) Asus 52x dvd drive Lite-on 48x dvd rw drive ( I have tried a distro in both drives) Asus p5kpl-c/1600 Motherboard 2gb generic ddr 800 ram I have also tried more than one copy of both distros Hazard 10.6 and Snow OSX even though I could at least boot them on my old setup. Dont know if this helps either but I do not appear to have a achi setting for my HDD in bios ??? If necessary I do have a genuine 10.6 disk I purchased to use on my dell mini but I dont think I would be able to get the boot loader to install to try Thanks in advance

wangerman
Booting up using -v extension says something about waiting for id1 and something about my harddrive but it looks all gibberish me. It used to at least boot with my old motherboard

wangerman
Right had a sleep and have done some googling All I can find is the intel ICH7 controller does not support achi mode. so I wonder if this is the problem ?. My old board didnt either but I could see my hdd when the settings were set to RAID. Shame as I only chose this board as the wiki said it was compatible Is there anyway to patch the bios if the settings have just been disabled ? pharrari
you can always flash your bios, but keep warning that if you don't know what you're doing or make the wrong step while you're flashing, you'll brick your bios and that board is done. Thanks for the replies everyone. I have used Kodakey to flash the bios and have loaded Snow Leopard. I am now building a hackintosh for a friend
