A few things to consider, the lower end have a smaller cache vs higher end Newer Duo's (4MB) and this hurts performance a little bit.

As a windows users, the price cuts on the AMD FX chips are now a good buy, but are still overshadowed by the overclocked CPU's as much as 20%. Still if you have a Win XP machine running AMD, it is a good time to buy a AMD chip as you will see a boost in performance if you are running a AMD 64 non X2 chip. Provided your motherboard supports it.

Still not a good time to buy. The motherboards aren't there yet.

Intel has to plan for Vista (shadowing), the motherboard used in this test is well over $200, so best to wait until the Mac Desktops come out and they are disassembled. Worse case scenario, ability to run duo cores (overclocked on say Gigabyte/Asus/Abit) to marks that crush Apples high end offering for very little money.

In addition, another reason to wait (since AMD bought intel, who knows where that will lead Apple with ATI, probably stays the same - as I always invisioned Apple/AMD as partners with Intel/MSFT the enemy) is what sort of chipsets GPU will come out as Intel not just for apple with have to be "Vista" ready which means shadowing which could also mean native dual display support as this is the norm now.

All in All, I think Apple has it's work cut out for them to be competitive and have a good pricing to performance ratio. Especially if one can (even if we are limited to OS 10.4.6/.7) can buld a dual display system that runs a overclocked setup that passes Apples Spec/Cinebech, etc while offering Raid.

Apples desktops will probably offer cutting edge GPU (might see the high end quatros) as well as RAID standard. The thing though that I read here are few days ago in this forum is whether or not it's true that OSX86 uses the second core correctly, in addition, none of the HD's attached seem to be S.M.A.R.T. enabled, whatever use that would have. Plus all the newer HD's have the QUE technology which is supposed to make gathering info much faster.

Lastly, FWIW, there is some speculation that in the works are OS's running on a CHIP, no more HD's, which means turn it on and there it is, both Mac and PC's. MSFT also is looking into EFI. I wonder if since Apples allow the running of Win XP, perhaps Vista that MSFT can't come up with something to run mac OSX.

Think about it. To say otherwise would be calling the kettle black.

Interesting times.

Anyway, with the exception of DDR, I wouldn't buy anything until Apples August event.
