Hi everyone; I was wondering what motherboard I can get right now to replace my eVGA nForce 680i SLi motherboard with one that can run OsX86 with my current used hardware? Any advice or tip would be appreciated. Below are my system specs.

Uh... all that jumble above is very confusing to me.. SORRY.

Well, I take that comment back, my system wasn't showing the picture... instead it was showing a ton of words in place of the picture with tons of colons: everywhere!!!! ICK!

These boards should work for you! Just look around the forum, and see if there is one board that receives more attention then another... that would be the best bet, because you can get help!

GOOD LUCK!

Question, does OsX86 releases favor Intel over AMD? Just curious because I was able to install it on my wife system before. Is not there anymore just been trying with my current board and it keeps getting stuck at Still waiting for device. I might ever consider getting an AMD board if it runs on that too.

DJ...

Looking @ apple.com, you will see that all apple computers come with intel cpu's only.

That means that, momentarily, all hackintoshin' will be easier on an intel board, because it is closer to vanilla circumstances from the beginning. This doesn't mean that AMD cpu's are impossible to get working, just much more difficult (I believe, I have never done it before.)

I have only installed OSX on intel boards.. no AMD boards...

That is true and thanks for pointing that out to me. I have in fact installed it on a Gigabyte AMD motherboard easy no problem at all. However; my board is not a good board to try this on and I do have one more question.

Is the "GIGABYTE GA-EP45T-UD3LR LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard" able to support DDR2 memory? I did notice it support DDR3 but just was wondering if it did support also DDR2.

That is a great question! Ha! When looking for a board for you, I was amazed @ the nice price, and such, because I wanted to get rid of my asus p5q board (cannot sleep), but I have all DDR2 RAM, and cannot afford to upgrade board & RAM @ the moment.. BUMMER!!! If you find out, please PM so I too will know! Lol.

Though, my initial instict says that this gigabyte board can not support DDR2 & DDR3 RAM, because DDR2 vs. DDR3 have completely different connectors.. DANG!

So, I doubt it...

Also, just so you are aware, when looking @ the different board options, I considered gigabyte as my first choice (good history of support with OSx86, and then I looked @ your socket type, following by the south-bridge (ICH10R.)

Ic, that makes sense I will look into it just trying to save as much money as possible. I do like Gigabyte motherboards big time when I got my EVGA was mainly to learn how to OC but I never had the time to mess with it so I never got it fully OC just baby steps. Board works great with WIndows or Linux just would like to have OsX to learn how it function and so on so I can test on OsX for my resume.

UPDATE: I found this info let me know because I might go that route too.

Ok I think I found the right board check out the links.

But you can run OS X on your eVGA nForce 680i SLi motherboard........... :)

I know there is a lot of reading to do but my blog nForce chipset MOBO + Intel CPU install guides for distros (Snow Leopard and Leopard), and my nForce chipset MOBO + Intel CPU Snow Leopard Install Guide here and my Leopard nForce Pre-Series 7 thread here show you how.......... :(

Hi there, hey thanks for taking the time to post this I will take a look at it for sure. I think I might be having a major issue with the device wire type like IDE vs SATA configuration. I have SATA for DVD-Drive and SATA for HDD. I am going to take home from work a IDE DVD-Drive to test it with the IDE HDDs I have at home. I will do some reading is just I never have the luck of getting pass that waiting on root device error.

Using a IDE (PATA) DVDRW is almost certain to solve your "still waiting for root device" error............ :)

Thanks I am excited now, your guides are amazing thanks for posting them to me. I did a few print out to take with me after work. Going to be working with that system today and hopefully I can get it working.

Question, do you think that I need to have it set IDE (PATA) DVDRW & SATA for the HDD? or should both be IDE? I am using iATKOS S3 v2 Disk first but I have other version that I can try out also if that fails.

Best combo is PATA (IDE) DVDRW and SATA HDD......... :)

I guess I will take my questions to another post if possible because this was all about choosing the motherboard.

If your questions are about nForce chipset + Intel CPU MOBO running Leopard, then post here..........but if about nForce chipset + Intel CPU MOBO running Snow Leopard, then post here.......... :(
