Hi, I'm trying to get OS X working on my custom build and it's not letting me boot up the disk properly.

I'm using the "hazard 10.6.1/10.6.2 SSE2/SSE3 amd/intel" .iso and my specs are as follows:

ASUS M4A79XTD Evo Motherboard

Phenom II X4 955

ATI Radeon HD 5770

1TB WD Caviar Black HDD

500GB WD Caviar Black HDD

The disk DOES boot up, it's just that it gives you instructions to either hit Enter to begin bootup or hit F8 to see other options, then if you hit Enter it just restarts the computer, or if you see the other options and try either of them it will also cause the computer to restart.

I'm really anxious to get OS X working on my build so I was wondering what the problem is here and how I could go about fixing it. My friend advises that it's likely the 5770, but if such is the case how have other people gotten it to work with their 5770's?

try anther one

iatkos s3 v2

if you have reinstalled leopard

try set up retial if you want to set up it

iwill guide you :)

That booted up the screen with the frog/lizard thing, but then it restarted after about 10 seconds. There was no command prompt either so I couldn't enter busratio=16 -v either.

Any other tips?

try iatkos s3 v2 if you cant try retial

download and burn it

then change sata setting on bios to achi

then boot with cd when count down begin press f8

then type busratio=16 -v

it will go strat to setup screen

perpare your HDD

THEN customize only add modifed kernel 10.3 it is good and remove audio kexts

then you will install it

will need kexts

i will upload it to you but first setup iatkos first :)

It got stuck after "busratio=16 -v." It started the boot and then it got stuck at "Still waiting for root device," which would be a repeating line every minute or so. I don't know how to go farther though, or what the problem could be.

Update:

I got it to load the disk and I was able to install it on a partition on my hard drive. However, now when I try to boot that hard drive it loads for about 3 seconds then restarts. I tried both AHCI and IDE settings and I've tried with and without having the install disk in the drive. Basically it shows the chameleon for about 2 seconds then flashes the Apple logo for one second, then reboots.

Any idea how to fix this? Did I install the wrong components or something? I'd REALLY like to get this working.

uh... I can't boot into the OS. It just stays at the Apple logo screen on boot and doesn't begin loading or anything. The loading wheel doesn't pop up and it just sits there, I can't go any further and I've tried booting with busratio=16 and that doesn't work. Are there any other commands in addition to busratio=16 I should be entering along with boot? Also, do I need the install disk for iAtkOS in my drive while trying to boot or can I do this without the disk in?

you nearly didnt choose kernel for amd

if you boot with busratio=16 -v

and it give you black screen thsi mean the vinallia kernel is loaded

you must choose modifed kernel choose any one 10.3 or 10.2 pcj or qoopz

good luck on new install :)

the only thing you will change on cuztomize

remove audio kexts voodoo and apple

and choose modifed kernel try 10.2 pcj kernel

So you're saying, from the default things checked when clicking "Customize," the only things I should change are to uncheck the audio kexts and to choose modified kernel? Everything else I should leave as is, including ATI drivers or graphics enabler, CPU modification, etc.?

Okay, I got it to boot up the OS completely and I loaded the "Kexts Helper" application, then dragged all of the drivers you linked to for download into the application. I typed my password, hit "EASY INSTALL," waited a few seconds, then got the message saying it looks like it worked, cross fingers and restart. From there I hit Apple, went to Restart, and waited. About a minute or two passed and a bunch of text appeared on the screen and just stayed there for a while, so I manually rebooted. When I tried loading into OS X again, it got past the Apple loading screen but only showed the iATKOS desktop, wouldn't load Finder or anything.

How do I fix this so it can properly install your drivers? Should I install one driver at a time? Or should I not be installing ALL of the drivers in that .zip you linked?

Also note: I didn't connect to the internet or anything like that, so I didn't update to 10.6.4 or anything. Also, I re-installed OS X on the drive and right now it's sitting there with a clean boot, so just tell me how to install the drivers or what to do and I'll keep trying things out until they work. I greatly appreciate your helping me. :D

If I run that update .dmg before installing drivers, and the update succeeds, will the drivers install correctly with kext helper? I'll probably try it either way, just wondering if that's what the case is so I can be sure that I'm almost finally done with the whole process thanks to your help.

when get desktop put kext helper in applications

run it from applications

put all kexts i give you on it easy install

after finish

click right on kext helper on dock force quiet

restart

you will have panic after 1 min

restart manualy

boot with flag

It wouldn't let me open the boot loader or the legacy_kernel from the .pkg files to install them. It gave me some weird error like com.apple -1 and said that they couldn't be opened. Is there something wrong with those files or is there something wrong with my install of the 10.6.4 update?

I only checked those three things during installation so I don't think I have an Extras folder...

Also, I got it to load and install the Chamelon RC4 bootloader you linked in your setup guide, but it wouldn't load the Chameleon RC5 bootloader you linked in one of your replies in this thread.

The problem is getting it to install the legacy kernel since it wont open the .pkg so I can install it.

I've tried installing everything except that and installing the kexts in kext helper but after doing a kernel panic it wouldn't boot completely into the OS anymore and I had to re-install again. It loads the Apple logo in the beginning and gets to the desktop wallpaper, but doesn't load Finder, the menu bar, dock, etc.

i dont know what is changes in iatkos from retail dvd

why you dont try Retail dvd it is easy follow first way

be sure that there no problem on it ;)

if you dont want to set up it

try to make extra folder and put on it boot.plist

and try to set up kernel agian if it cant

use kernel file this

but i perfere that you use Retial because all thing on it is orginal kexts you add just what you want to it with out effecting on other kexts

Update:

I got it to load the disk and I was able to install it on a partition on my hard drive.

And how?

I can't get rid of the "Still waiting for root device" error, and I have the same motherboard you have. What did you do to workaround that?

I've already wasted 3 dvd's, I've burnt iatkos, leohazard 10.6.2 and 10.6.1-10.6.2.

I have the same error everytime.

Changing sata mode to ahci did nothing. The busratio flag I already use to workaround the restart loop.

Could it be because I only have an IDE DVD drive and not a SATA one?
