As some of you may know, Apple's new product has been released.

The "Apple Trackpad" for use with mac desktop computers.

Is there anyway we could use this with a external bluetooth adapter?

Post your results here If you own one yet, or If your going to buy one.

I'd like to use the Magic Trackpad with Windows. But there is no driver.

I bought one. I plugged an external bluetooth adapter into my hacintosh and they found each other and synced right away. However, I'm stuck at OSX 10.6.2. I once upgraded my test drive to 10.6.3 and it killed it. So I'm stuck.

The new magic trackpad requires an updated system extension that requires 10.6.4, so I can't install it. Without the software I can still use it as a normal trackpad, but no gestures.

I wish I could upgrade my OS. ; . ;

I bought one and I love it. Compliments my Apple Wireless Keyboard perfectly.

 

I'm using a D-Link Bluetooth USB dongle with my Hackintosh desktop (Not sure what the model # is) and it works natively with Mac OS X. I didn't need to install any kexts or anything to get the USB dongle working. Both the keyboard and trackpad connect just as if I had a real Mac. If you have working Bluetooth on your Hackintosh, the trackpad will work just fine.

 

I'd like to use the Magic Trackpad with Windows. But there is no driver.

The Boot Camp drivers work fine on non-Boot Camp Windows installations. You just have to extract the driver from the installation package.

 

Apple Magic Trackpad Update 1.0 for Windows 32 bit

Apple Magic Trackpad Update 1.0 for Windows 64 bit

 

Download either the 32 bit or 64 bit driver.

 

1. Using 7-Zip, extract the installer into a new folder.

2. In the folder you extracted the files into, locate the "BootCampUpdate64.msp" (or BootCampUpdate32.msp if using 32 bit) and then extract it to a new folder using 7-Zip.

3. In the new folder, locate a folder called "BootCamp3135aToBootCamp3135". Find the file "Binary.AppleWirelessTrackpad_Bin" and extract it to a new folder with 7-Zip.

4. In the new folder, find "DPInst.exe" and run it to install the driver.

5. That is all!

 

The trackpad functions like a regular trackpad under Windows. None of the cool gestures are supported, unfortunately. :(

@ kumoito you can just change your version to .4 in the /system/library/coreservices there's a file there named Systemversion.plist edit it and change ProductUserVisibleVersion and ProductVersion to 10.6.4 and you're good to go with the trackpad working since you're tricking the system into believing it's running on .4

laughing man, you are a life saver!!!! thank you so much! I finally got my magic trackpad and magic mouse working. I have been desperately trying to update to 10.6.4, but i now i can just fake it!

 

I actually had to change both lines referring to the version, like this:

 

<key>ProductUserVisibleVersion</key>

<string>10.6.4</string>

<key>ProductVersion</key>

<string>10.6.4</string>

 

but i wouldnt have found it without your post.

 

Now, even though i no longer NEED to update, I would still LIKE to. If you think you can help, please take a look.

I use the magic trackpad with the Jitouch software on my desktop hack. What I like the most is surfing in total silence without the click click sound from the mouse. I'm used to tap to click since forever on my laptop.

 

You can have certain gestures only work in certain applications.

I'm trying to use as many gestures as possible to avoid the keyboard.

Stepping between open taps is a joy for example.

 

Like for copying and pasting you use index and ringfinger and drag. Theres an adjustment in jitouch where it measures the distance between your index and ringfinger. I like the idea that a computer might be customized to a specific persons fingers!

 

It would be interesting to hear what gestures and tap combinations other people use. I guess it comes down to what functions you use the most and what your fingers are like. I made one for Enter, index and ringfinger pressed, doubleclick on middle finger. Not sure about that one, also the default for copy and paste is a bit weird for me. I use that a lot when browsing so need to find something easy. (Copy word in webpage, open new tap and paste in search window and google it)

I love my Magic Trackpad for a few reason and thats its speed to go across my monitors. Seems to respond to slightest touch on click there by making my hand feel better instead of the Magic Mouse and its click pressure while pressing down mechanically. Activate Expose I use a lot.

 

Recommend it to anyone!

hangten and others who uses this trackpad,

 

i would like to know if the track pad gestures/multi fingers scrolling are working 100%.

thinking of getting one for my 10.6.4 setup with a trust bluetooth dongle.

I use a cheap usb bluetooth dongle. The kind with semitransparent blue plastic. I can't see the brand now cause I put tape around it, the LED inside was blinking constantly when using the trackpad.

 

When you connect the trackpad a download becomes available via software update.

You get a new preference pane in system preferences called Trackpad with options and animations to show the different gestures.

 

To further customize your gestures theres third party software: Jitouch, that I use and BetterTouchTool.

Duno about Windows 7 64bit and my Apple Aluminum 2 battery keyboard working (won't connect), but can confirm Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad work with just the basics of functions in Windows 7 64bit. My Windows 7 install says, "BOOTCAMP" after installing drivers. Seems I can change the drive name but don't really mind.

 

As for SL the Magic Trackpad and the rest of the bluetooth devices all 100% working.

do you guys use the track pad on a dual/triple boot setup?

 

i have 3 boot partitions ( 2 os x 10.6.4 and 1 windows 7)

so far i tested between the 2 os x, the trackpad only maintains 1 connection, whenever i setup with the other it looses the other one, have to remove the batteries and setup again.

 

i don't have this issue with my bt logitech mouse v470, this mouse remembers the connections across all 3 partitions.

yes it is exactly what happened, it is not only between os x and windows, but also between 2 different instances of os x on the same machine.

 

it is not a big deal since i use os x mainly, and windows 7 is for casual gaming, and the other os x is a recovery/test partition.

 

i think i have the same issue with apple wireless keyboard, which made me using apple usb keyboard now.

 

well, looks like i cannot ditch the logitech mouse permanently.

 

EDIT:

another issue, it seems the trackpad breaks auto sleep function, i tested it by setting the energy saver to sleep at 2 minutes but still the machine is active, only the screen is turned off.

i wonder if this only on my unit, so does this happen to you guys? any remedy for it?

Works great. Theres a new setting for "scroll direction: natural" and theres been some interface philosophy type debate about what is the "natural" direction. I'm thinking of changing mine to the default direction cause its confusing now when I use other peoples computers. No man is an island and so on.
