netkas
http://mirror.netkas.org/ATY_Init.kext.zip plus drivers tarball from the post http://netkas.org/?p=465 default fb for them is Uakari, you can try different fbs you may need to add devid to ati5000controller.kext also i suggest to try without atiradeonx3000.kext, we need working framebuffers first good luck
asstastic
Testing framebuffers, so far with no luck. ATI Mobility 5730. Not Working: Eulemur Gliff Hoolock Kipunji Langur Uakari Vervet Untested: Alouatta Baboon Colobus Douc Galago Any other names I can try? Also, can't read the card BIOS in windows using GPUZ or it's derivatives. Will this be a problem for ATY_Init?

asstastic
Jeez, mobility isnt supported atm. Gotcha, not a lot of information floating around on exactly what is working with these kexts. Seems the general answer to most questions is keep fiddling with it till it works. Is there a IRC room I can join to help with dev work and/or get status updates on development?
spatimouth01
I can't get it working, won't load a kext for my card according to system profiler. I have a XFX 5830 and my device id is 0x689e1002 which I have added to the ATI5000Controller.kext. I also deleted the ATI3000Controller.kext. kamidake50
So 5830 is a no go huh? Too bad, they are only 199 right now... seems like an awesome card for the price
netkas
spatimouth01 you are doing smth wrong.
kamidake50
netkas, a 5830 basically a rejected 5850 with a lot of things disabled right? So shouldn't the config be close to a 5850? On your site I didn't see any 5830s confirmed working, but I would love to buy one and try (and post results) if you think it might have a chance. Grzesiek13
Is there any chance to get QE/CI in HD 56XX card? I don't know what to do because I must buy a new one so I'm confused - wait for the new iMac (maybe we'll get a support) or just buy old HD4670
George20
I think you are really, really close to get QE/CI Now you can only test all framebuffers because we simply don't know which one is correct. Thanks for your post and we're waiting for more reports. I think Netkas would be helpfull.
netkas
Uakari, Vervet, Eulemur and others. test them. i can post full list later.
DaviDemon
I will be testing them during the day and will report back. Closest thing to QE/CI was mouse shadow. HAHAHA! But will test the rest soon. Thanks though.

DaviDemon
erm sorry. I don't really know how to change the framebuffers without screwing it up hard. I tried fresh installs of SL and I got black screens. So... What does framebuffers change anyways? Sorry I'm really bad at this stuff. All I know is, the card is detected however, no hardware acceleration or QE/CI. Sorry for the bad feedback.
George20
Just go to ATY_Init.kext and edit info.plist. Find </dict> <key>ATI Radeon 5600 Series</key> <dict> And Replace Uakari to other fb: Alouatta Baboon Colobus Douc Eulemur Galago Gliff Hoolock Kipunji Langur Uakari Vervet If i'm think wrong please correct me And to be clear, the framebuffer is the most important think to get working all cards If you get black screen or stand-by light on your monitor try to switch connectors (DVI, HDMI, changing places etc.)
DaviDemon
Ohk, so just change DVI places and stuff? Before I got a random black screen after a fresh install of SL and updating to 10.6.4, I solved this by changing the "Graphics Mode" in the boot to something I could support, then changed it back to default after I got it working. I'll try the framebuffers now, seems like alot of hard work to do, let's just hope that I don't have to go through all of them to get hardware accell up. Oh and btw, I think you change EVERYTHING under ATI 5600 Series that has Uakari (default in ATY_Init.kext) to another framebuffer. So like... <string>ATY,Uakari</string> to <string>ATY,Vervet</string> and <string>ATY,UakariParent</string> to <string>ATY,VervetParent</string> Please correct me if Im wrong! Test 1, Vervet not working. No black screen at boot. *Phew* Test 2 coming up.
George20
"Graphics Mode" I don't know what you meant by that I think you can try to boot in safe mode when you get a black screen. I'm just suggest to not use any switches because you may simply miss the right framebuffer during the tests. I'm not expert let's wait for netkas, maybe I'm giving you a wrong advises
DaviDemon
It's okay. Netkas is probably busy anyways. I've tried safe mode before. Doesn't work. You know how you have boot commands at the boot loader? Such as, "-v, -x" and such? You use "Graphics Mode"="800x600x32" or a different resolution to boot into a different res. Anyways, I'm only changing screens when I get a blank screen. Test 2, Eulemur, not working. How do I actually tell when it works? LOL!?
DaviDemon
Erm... Help? Haha. I got a blank screen/screen standby. How to fix? Haha, I'ved tried changing DVI ports, monitors, booting in safe mode, different resolutions. EEP!!
George20
If you can, try to plug both DVI or use DVI-VGA dongle. You are very close to get QE/CI if you get screen you probably get full resolution
DaviDemon
I just need to get the stupid framebuffer. >< How to delete ATY_Init using sudo? Single user boot, the only way I can fix it atm..
George20
If you have two monitors with DVI plug both to the card (if you have 2xDVI) If not try plug by VGA this is the best method. Did you try with VGA cable?
DaviDemon
I have 2 monitors. I've tried plugging in both. One, changed, etc. None have worked so far.
George20
According to topic with HD4670 "Wait? The screen is black?!? You screwed me! Negative, try switching ports. VGA works best, period. If you wanted to use HDMI or DVI, BOTH HDMI AND DVI will have to be plugged in at the same time to two monitors." If you tried with VGA dongle with no success I have any ideas left :/ But probably you have almost matching framebuffer. We just need some help from Netkas BTW. Is this a first time when you get standby screen? Which fb you are using now?
