oldnapalm
If you use Windows and want to check if your hardware is compatible with Mac OS X, check this app, it gets the IDs of your PCI devices from registry and checks if they are compatible. The app was written by El Coniglio and uses a database generated with contributions by users of the Mac OS version. Download: System_Info.zip ( 375.16K ) Icon meaning: - device was reported as working; - device was not reported, but devices in this class are not usually reported; - device was not reported, and devices in this class are usually reported. Requires Java JRE to run.

el coniglio
not working for me, i have java jre installed..error says could not find the main class: kexts.KextsApp. program will exit. You have to extract the "lib" directory and the .exe, the .exe alone will produce this message. If the package you download didn't contain a directory inside, please download it again, when I first uploaded it yesterday I forgot about the libs, but it is fixed. BuXb
what does a smiling smily mean (as supposed to a green checkmark)? My guess: checkmark = o.o.t.box, laughing smily = with additional files (kexts, FWs etc.)? Thanks, app's looking good.
razy60
cheers for this, It just confirmed what i suspected, got a load of green ticks 1 smiley face and 1 sad face which is for my graphics card, so no osx on this laptop. Raz
Snerler
Shows the ATI x1800 as not working even though it does. But everything else was shown correctly.

Raz It doesn't mean 100% that the graphics card isn't compatible, just that nobody sent the info that it's working, like the case below. Shows the ATI x1800 as not working even though it does. But everything else was shown correctly. If you have it working, please send the information using the Mac OS version of the app, so other users will know it works. Arkaiden
Hi, very useful program =) Is it possible to add a small label/listbox which tells the user which release might work? It would be very helpful if the program tells you what u need to install/add etc in order to make your osx86 work properly. And perhaps some small hints if device not compatible is a showstopper or not.
slicktim
Wow thanks for the post....it really helped me figure what i needed to get my install on the way.

Use Your Illusion
Hmmm, not having any luck with this program. Extracted and ran it on XP Pro, but the content window is blank. Pentium 2.8 with some Dell-based scoket 478 board. There's no hardware listed at all. Is there something that I'm doing wrong? Cheers. EDIT: Just found out (family's computer, not my system) that it's only got SP3 installed. Before I bother to back up documents and install it, could that be the problem? The "device pattern" in your system isn't reconigzed by the program, I just tested on a XP and windows7, but if you provide me a "reg dump" I can add the pattern to fit it. Here is the command reg query hklm\system\currentcontrolset\enum\pci /s > dump.txt
spy 1
Nice program since I want to install mac os x on my notebook this is very usefull. But the green checkers are ok what does smile mean ? is a sad face a no go ?
oldnapalm
Green check means users reported working kexts related to that device. Happy face means there are no related kexts, but there isn't much data about that device class in database. Sad face means no related kexts, and plenty of data about that device class in database (it doesn't mean 100% the device isn't compatible, just that nobody sent info that it's working). I was looking for an alternative, maybe a parameter to reg.exe to make a bigger buffer, but there is no option related to this. It seems to be an reg.exe issue for vista, there is a hotfix for it. I don't really know it this will work since I don't have any computers with vista installed and never faced this error.
