Thanks Birdman,

Your guide for the GA-H57M-USB3 gave me the confidence to get this board for christmas and do my 3rd hackintosh. I did a mix of your information and the info from tonyMacx86. To save some time I tried his approach to first use ##### and go straight to retail OSX 10.6.0 install disk. I followed with the combo update and ##### (using tonymac's DSDT and User DSDT method). With this motherboard none of this would have worked if I didn't use your advice to use "CPU=1 BUSRATIO=20" THE INSTALLER WOULD NOT RUN WITH OUT IT. Thank You Very much! This has worked out great. Most stable build that I've put together. Everything is working including sleep!

Follow this Guide : http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html

and don't forget to add after ##### and OSX Retail Install - the strings: "cpu=1 busratio=20 -v"

Here's my setup.

#####: (Check means put a check mark in the box)

Check - UserDSDT Install (get in tonymacx86.com DSDT database. Ga-H57m-usb3 (F9 Bios)

Check - User utilities (rebuild cashes and permissions)

Kexts and Enablers:

Check - Audio Realtek ALC8xx - ALC8xxHDA and AppleHDA Rollback

Check - Disk JMicron36x (AKA GSATA) - ATA and SATA (ESATA optional)

Check - Graphics (pick what matches you graphics card)

Check - Miscellaneous - fakesMC and USB 3.0 - NEC/Renesas

Check - Network - RealtekR100SL

DO NOT CHECK A BOOT LOADER (It is al ready selected under User DSDT Install)

Customization:

Check - Boot options - 64 bit apple boot screen.

Check - System Definitions (Pick the one you like)

Check - Themes - (Pick the one you like)

Check - OSX86 Software.

That's IT! for a very stable Vanilla Kernel install. Total of 6 NON Apple Kext's in the Extra folder.

Enjoy :)

Update:

My sleep stopped working and I found out it was the NVEnabler_64.kext. I removed it and just use the boot-loader graphic's enabled. No graphics selected. (Boot options - 64 bit apple boot screen enables my graphics)

Also I was having low geek Bench scores. I turns out that having bios setting in auto is bad. (Except for cpu voltage and ram timings.) Removed auto's and score jump up from 3500 to about 7800. :)

Update 1/17/2011

Updated system to 10.6.6 with no issues. :)

Sleep was inconsistent. Some of it was hardware - It doesn't like my old MAC keyboard and the GIGABYTE SATA PORTS PUT THE MOTHERBOARD IN LIMBO WHEN ENTERING SLEEP. I just use the Intel Sata ports for now. (something to work on.) Software issues include AppleLPC.kext not loading. This is part of the cpu speed stepping, and has been know to cause sleep issues.

After spending hours reading I learned how to patch the DSDT file I received from TonyMacx86 so it would load the AppleLPC.Kext. You can tell right away if its working because you can go to the energy saver preferences and now you have the option to startup automatically after power failure.

If it helps anyone I'll attach it here. DSDT_GA_H57M_USB3_F9_LPCB.aml.zip

After renaming to DSDT.aml and installing in extra folder use ##### to repair permissions and remake the caches. Then reboot. Otherwise sleep will cause a kernal panic.

hope this was helpful.

Update 2/11/2011

I've been reading and trying different things to get this OSX system working 100%

I changed out my old mac keyboard for a new Logitech and that solved usb issues with that keyboard. I tried every usb dsdt patch I could read about, but the 4 standard USB ports on the back of the motherboard still give me trouble going to sleep with anything plugged into them. I added 4 new usb ports that plug into the motherboard and attach to a PCI slot cover. Those with the ones on the front work just fine with full functioning sleep. My DVD drive is not allowing auto sleep to work, so I added the RIP3 script and that fixed that. Rip3 Script

Last I wanted my speedstepping working. It took me a lot longer finding a monitor program that would work, than to fix it. Monitoring with FakeSMC

The biggest problems are some times the simplest. I had speedstep working great at stock CPU speed's (i5 760 - 2.8ghz), but overclocking caused the speedstep voltage to just stay at maximum. After reading and trying to add speedstep to my dsdt (Not needed) I found out that all I had to do is change my bios CPU core voltage control from auto to normal. also change the next one i believe called voltage change to normal. My best performance with geekbench came when I used chameleon to GeneratePstates = yes in com.apple.Boot.plist. Geekbench (x86) score-8602 and Geekbench (x64) score-10204 with overclock of 3.613ghz (i5 760). BCLK was 172 and memory was 10x = 1702. CPU multiplier was 21. Temp at idle is 34c with non stock cooler. I set fan control in bios on voltage control not auto or PWM. This runs at lower RPM's for quiet operation. Stock cooler is only good for stock speeds.

I will attach the latest DSDT for this motherboard if you don't want to make your own with the MaLdOn AutoPatcher. GA_H57M_USB3_F9_ALC889_MaLdOn.aml.zip (don't forget to rename to DSDT.aml before using.)

DSDT doesn't set video card type or CPU SpeedStepping. Use Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r669 or newer for that.

I would guess yes, with some trial and err. I don't know of a edited DSDT file that would work with that motherboard, but using #####'s - ##### method should work. Your Audio is ALC889 (compatible) Network is RTL8111 (compatible) Intel chipset H57 (Compatible) Pick a compatible Graphics card and you would be close.

Good Luck :D

I was successfully able to get my hackintosh up and running by using this thread as a guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...23597&st=20. I would like to thank The_Birdman and Toad S for the information they posted; ultimately that's what gave me the confidence to try a hackintosh install on this board.

I would have preferred to post in that actual thread, however the posting rules for new users prevent me from doing so.

Anyway, some specifics about my process.

System

GA-H57M-USB3 F9 BIOS

Intel i3-550

EVGA GT240 512mb DDR5

I performed a fresh install onto a new hard drive and then upgraded to 10.6.6. I followed almost exactly the method that Toad S used in the thread linked to above with a couple of small differences. My install disc was 10.6.3 instead of 10.6.0, I added the JMicron36x kext for eSATA support, I DID NOT need to add the additional string at boot to enable to installer to run, and I upgraded straight from the install (10.6.3) to 10.6.6.

Sound is working, graphics are working, and ethernet appears to be working, although at the moment I'm unable to connect to the internet. This is a problem with my wifi dongle as I can send and receive packets from the router.

I would like to point out that at the moment I do have NVEnabler_64 kext enabled. Toad S from the other thread had to delete it so that his sleep would work. I have yet to use the sleep function so I can't report as to whether or not that kext will cause sleep problems on my system as well.

Overall the process was incredibly straightforward and I now have an H57 system running 10.6.6. Everything seems to be working save for the aforementioned wifi dongle issue. Thanks again to The_Birdman and Toad S.

I'm Glad it worked out for you. This is proving to be a great board!

ape aperson's original thread.

hi birdman,

sorry if this may sound as a noob question, i have the same motherboard and i am planning to create again a hackintosh...will it ever support multicores? as i see it still uses cpu=1 ?

please shine your light on me ;)

thanks in advance!

Sense Birdman didn't respond yet to your question. I will.

CPU=1 is just until you get you going until you update past system 10.6.2 then it will support i3,i5 and i7 natively.

I'm still running my GA-H57M-USB system almost 24/7 for the past 3 months with no issues.

my first try was not good.

inserted #####, swapped with Mac OSX DVD, ran it then it's telling me i cannot install MacOS on the machine and it can do only a backup and restore....i'm suspecting my MacOSX DVD because this one came with my Macbook Pro...

i dont have a retail dvd, so i downloaded from torrent. ill try again today. :)

second try:

1. created usb mac osx installer using disk utility

2. Booted from #####, inserted USB and selected the Mac OSX image, entered PCIRootUID=1 -x since it doesnt want to work without this parameter

3. Currently installing..... updates later, fingers crossed!

Help guys i'm stuck here:

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin is timing out on a normal boot mode.

If i boot on safe mode (With -x), it continues but it's on safe mode.

BTW, i have an Nvidia Quadro card and when it is in safe mode, it can read everything about the video card. The only thing not working on safe mode is the audio.

How do i resolve this? :)

For the error ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin... you might need fakesmc.kext if you're not already using it.

For the sound, did you give a try to VoodooHDA?

Hi guys, got everything sorted out using this tutorial by tonymac:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=...f3d7822dc04f165

followed everything to the dot except the update i had was 10.6.7. Everything is ok now except my wireless USB adapter. Researching on that today.

Thanks a lot for the help guys.

Just reporting a successful update to 10.6.8.

After installing the combo update and before rebooting I just overwrote my IOUSBFamily.kext with a backup in /S/L/E just in case. Couple of guys reported USB issues after installing the update so I took no chances.
