I successfully completed the installation and upgrade of Snow Leopard 10.6.4 using iBoot and #####.

My current configuration for my new system :

  • System: Gigabyte GA-H57M-USB3
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 650 3.2 GHZ
  • RAM: G.SKILL DDR3 1600MHZ 8GB
  • Graphics: Nvidia 9600GT 512MB
  • PSU: Corsair VX550W
  • Case: Antec Gaming Case 300 ATX
  • HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB
  • Version: OSX 10.6.4 64 bit

Leopard installation

  • In the Bios replace IDE by AHCI, enable HPET 64 bit, change boot device priorities
  • Using iDeneb 10.5.6 and create Mac OS X partitions using GUID partition scheme.
  • In the custom options for install, select the following: Voodoo kernel, NvInject 512MB for video, Realtek 1000 for ethernet, ALC 889 for audio, JMicron and Intel ICH fixed under chipset, Seatbelt fix and Powerofffix for additional patches, Kext helper, Pacifist under Applications.
  • At boot type busratio=20 cpu=1 -v(because Intel core i5 cpu which is not supported natively by 10.5.6). If your CPU is fully supported skip this step.

Install Snow Leopard

  • From 10.5.6, install the Retail DVD(burned on USB key) with some Kexts in /Extra(LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext, IOUSBFamily.kext, LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext, NVEnabler 64.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, JMicronATA.kext, PlatformUUID.kext, LegacyAppleRTC.kext, VoodooHDA.kext, LegacyHDAController.kext, fakesmc.kext).
    * Add the EFI String for your graphics card, nvidia for some, in com.apple.Boot.plist in /Extra. The onboard Graphics won't work.
  • Reboot in 10.6.0 with the following boot flags busratio=20 arch=x86_64 maxmem=4096 cpu=1 -v
  • Install ##### and #####(UserDSDT). Select the 10.3.1 kernel, place DSTD.aml in your Desktop folder, 64 bit in com.apple.Boot.plist in /Extra, macpro i5 in smbios.plist
  • Add the following kernel flags in com.apple.Boot.plist in /Extra busratio=20 maxmem=8192 arch=x86_64 -v
  • Install a new chameleon on both snow leopard and current leopard partition
  • Copy the custom boot file to your root folder /. Google for PC-EFI or search this forum.
  • Rebuild the cache and permissions(google : prasys pfix.sh)

Upgrade to 10.6.4

  • Extract the DSDT from an Ubuntu Live CD and sent it to yourself by email for later(sudo cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > DSDT.aml)
  • Boot with the latest ##### CD.
  • Dowload and install the ComboUpdate for 10.6.4 and don't reboot
  • Install #####(UserDSDT). Get the DSDT from and Ubuntu Live CD and select 10.3.1 kernel, 64 bit in com.apple.Boot.plist in /Extra, macpro i5(if using a i5 CPU) in smbios.plist
  • Add the following kernel flags in com.apple.Boot.plist in /Extra busratio=20 maxmem=8192 arch=x86_64 -v.

NOTE : Always rebuild permissions when in doubt to avoid kernel panics(added/removed kexts for example)

Thanks Gr33nPython, I'm glad it worked for you.

Please guys, if you have the same motherboard, report success/failure in this thread to help others.

Gr33nPython, for the CPU name recognition, do you have custom settings in /Extra/smbios.plist? Could you paste yours here?

Here's mine below

The CPU name didn't show up until I updated to 10.6.4..... Even then it was nothing more than a fluke!

Thanks in advance.

My kexts in /Extra/Extensions

  • EvOreboot.kext
  • JMicronATA.kext
  • LegacyHDAPlatformDriver.kext
  • PlatformUUID.kext
  • IOUSBFamily.kext
  • LegacyAppleHDAHardwareConfigDriver.kext
  • LegacyIOAHCIBlockStorage.kext

Yes, Vanilla kernel is supported, in fact I haven't tried any other solutions, just custom kernel options and custom boot.plist.

Use ##### solution to complete your installation.

Hope this help.

Alright! I have 10.6.4 vanilla kernel running on mine!

Aerocool M40 MicroATX case, Core i7 860, Corsair 750TX PSU, MSI 9500GT, GSKILL 12800 DDR3 4GB

I've another hacintosh (HP8530W) so I installed 10.6.4 on the new HD using OSInstall.mpeg method, installed ##### (##### option) on top of it. Used the extensions and dsdt.aml from here. That is it!

I did switch to AHCI, optimized defaults and HPET 64 bit in the BIOS.

Now, I've find unused extensions in the Extra folder and remove them. I don't like unnecessary kexts around. So far, removed NVEnabler and JMicro36x*.kexts. The GraphicsEnabler option seems to work fine. I get full resolution (2560x1440) on my 27" dell monitor on the first bootup itself.

Also, Audio and Sleep don't seem to work now.

Thanks guys!

update: since I used the extensions.zip above I removed all LegacyHDA*, LegacyAppleRTC, LegacyIOAHCI* and Ev0reboot.kext. The system booted up just fine. I also removed RealTek100L? also. Instead I use RealTek18xx.kext. For Audio, using VoodooHDA and works great!

More cleanup. I've Fakesmc, ioahciblockstorageinjector, jmicroata, nullcpupowermangement, platformuuid and smcitecontroller only. Removed all the rest. Under S/L/E, I've ApplePS2Controller, PS2nub, voodoohda and realtekrtl81xx. Thats all. All work fine including external usb BT dongle. System shutsdown, reboots fine.

The kernel.log looks clean. No errors or warnings.

Hi Birdman, does the onboard graphic works.

thanks for the useful guide, just great.

Not that I know, I tried couple things without success.

As I already had a spare NVidia card from another PC that used to work on a P5K-VM hackintosh, I just use that.

Get a cheap card that you know is supported, usually most NVIDIA cards will work, sometimes without any modification.

Hi all

I'm new at building Mac and I've bought this setting:

  • System: Gigabyte GA-H57M-USB3
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 650 3.2 GHZ
  • RAM: G.SKILL DDR3 1600MHZ 2x2GB
  • Graphics: XFX RADEON HD 4550
  • PSU: OCZ 500MXSP 500W
  • Case: Thermaltake V3
  • HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM
  • Version: OSX 10.6.0

Can I follow the instructions you gave or as it's a different OS I'll need to change some settings?

Do you think the graphics will be compatibles?

Thank you in advance!

PS: Forgive my english, I usually speek french ^^

Hello,

French : Je n'ai jamais eu de carte graphique ATI, mais ça devrait bien se faire. La carte graphique devrait marcher après quelques manips probablement pas du coup! Check les liens suivants :

English : I never owned an ATI card but it should work after few manipulations. Check the links below if you encounter any issues:

In general I would say, try to buy graphic cards known to work easily with close to no hacking.

Good luck

NOTE : Always rebuild permissions when in doubt to avoid kernel panics(added/removed kexts for example)

more cleanup.

Now, I have only fakesmc.kext in Extra folder and keyboard/realtek/voodoohda in S/L/E. I guess #####/##### installs PCEFI? I switched to Chameleon RC5. Also, I use DSDT database from Tonymac's DSDT database.

Unfortunately DSDT from Tonymac's database doesn't work for me. Can please anyone share DSDT.aml and Extra from the working system?

Thanks!

No DSDT is required. I am not using one currently and everything is working great.

It would be easier if you post in English, but I can manage a bit of spanish, you need some boot flags. When you see the boot menu type the line below and press enter.

cpu=1 busratio=25

Later include the above arguments in your boot.plist file

Upgrading to 10.6.5

It's not too complicated. Follow the guide by tonymacx86 http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/11/mac...065-update.html.

  • Be sure to select the option "rollback USB..." . If you don't, your USB devices won't work.
  • I'm not using any DSDT at the moment, just #####.
  • SleepEnabler kext might give you kernel panics so get another one or delete it. I decide not to use it as I never put my PC to sleep.

I did a quick attempt to upgrade from 10.6.0 to 10.6.5 on another machine directly but I had tons of issues which I couldn't fix within 2 hours. The recommended way to jump to 10.6.5 is to do it from 10.6.4.

Installing the IPhone SDK on 10.6.5

If you didn't have the IPhone SDK installed and want to install it on 10.6.5, make sure that you remove AppleProfileFamily.kext in S/L/E (i.e /System/Library/Extensions). If you don't remove that extension you'll likely get kernel panics during the installation.

That extension will be restored by the IPhone SDK installer.

Please report success if you managed to upgrade to 10.6.5!

Networking works on 10.6.0 but not 10.6.4 or 10.6.5...any suggestions on where to start with this motherboard?

Hello,

I suppose that you have some permissions issues on your extensions.

You need the kext RealtekR1000SL.kext for the network to work. If you do have that extension, but no internet connectivity, it probably means that the kext is not loaded.

This thread contains a short guide on page 1, but if you do have additional questions, just ask.
