albertsf Posted July 20, 2006 Share Posted July 20, 2006 With all of the constant posts and questions on the forum it can be easy to become confused. When this project first started there were so many questions and answers (Some right and some wrong), that it quickly became a nightmare for some users. I'm not saying that a forum isn't a good thing. What im saying is that we need a page were editors can choose tutorials or how to's from the forum, or from other places, and post them in a way that is understandable by users. These editors would be volunteers. I also would like to provide free server hosting and storage for anybody who starts a team project. I will give you a subdomain, unlimited bandwith, FTP access (To share files between developers) and web page hosting. Tell me what you think. The admins created a wiki, but there are a lot of small but important information that don't make it in the wiki. The admins also created the Genius forum. A lot of vital information are placed there. If you think there is a good how-to or information, you can always recommend the thread to be placed in the genius forum. That said, running hack OS X on a PC isn't really an exact science. There are too many variable to contend with. Expecting Tiger to run on a on first boot and getting everything stable in under a month just isn't gonna happen. Not when the OS is only suppose to work with Apple Certified hardware. Those who hare having a "hard" time with this board's search feature; it's not the end of the world. If you don't like it, don't use. There is another ways around searching this board if the admins limit search strings. Here is an example for a user who had a hard time searching "vlc". Google this: vlc site:osx86project.org notice the "site:osx86project.org". Let google do all the work. Insanelymac is pretty new and google hasen't had time to crawl the domain. I will provided hosting for for anybody who wants to start a team project based around OS X. People developing drivers, software, patches, etc etc etc........ I will give them a subdomain, web hosting, ftp acesss (to share files between team members), unlimited bandwith (yes I have the resources), and teamspeak or private IRC channels for the team to work together. On the main page of the site is were the editors select stories for software, patches, and drivers. That current teams are working on. We will even allow teams to get a domain name (optional if they want to pay for it) and I will host there server. It would also be cool to have a partnership with Insanely Mac. Swad Posted July 22, 2006 Share Posted July 22, 2006 albertsf - Thanks for the suggestions, but it seems that splitting things up even more would lead to less organization, not more. I think a central place, like our X Labs, makes for an ideal way to keep information close at hand for developers. If you'd like to suggest an alternative setup for our wiki (something we're working on for the next few months anyway!) I'd love to chat with you about it. Thanks! (Moved to Thunderdome...)
