Our office runs a Mac Pro G5 running Mac OS X Server, 10.5.8.

It has a built in network card, and we want to put in another network card for various reasons.

We bought a D-Link DGE-528T PCI-card, which does not work in Mac OS 10.5 and upwards (only 10.2, 10.3, 10.4).

We found a third party Realtek1000 driver which actually got it up and running but the performance was crappy, less than half of standard Gigabit throughput.

After about 3 hours on the phone (D-Link, Apple, third party Apple retailers, Apple service centers, general electronics retailers), it seems that finding a network card for a Mac Pro G5 is quite impossible!

We found a card by Intel, the Intel PRO/1000 GT Desktop Gigabit. I've only read about that card on this forum, that people can't get it to run, but that a driver might come (old discussion, 2008). We actually bought that card, but it turns out we got a low profile version and that's all that that specific retailer has in stock.

Questions of the thread:

Does anyone know of any PCI Gigabit network card that works for Mac OS X (Server to be specific, 10.5.8).
