Please forgive me in advance if I am asking stupid questions, I have been reading about audio for a while now but can't seem to make much sense of it all.

I'm interested to get the digital out of my ASUS P5G41T-M mainboard working under 10.6.3. According to the manual, it is powered by an ALC887.

What is the best way to go about this? I have dumped and made my own DSDT file which works great, but there are no references to HDEF or AZAL in there. Is it possible to add a HDEF section and use an Apple audio driver? What needs to be done to accomplish this? Or is there another way?

Thanks for your input!!!

Hi

dunno if you're still looking for a solution. I have sound working with my P5G43T-M Pro (should be similar - it also has an ALC887). Can't say if digital out works cause I don't use it but it is shown in sys pref.

I'll attach my dsdt patch + a legacy kext (for /Extra). Didn't manage to get the lastest 10.6.3 AppleHDA.kext working so just use the 10.6.0 (10.6.1)

(ALC is renamed to 885, you can change it back to 887 but then take care about the legacy kext as well.)

I realise this is an old post. I've searched for a dsdt patch that worked for a few days so the dsdt patch exerts published did the trick along with ###### 2.52 HDA kexts. I place my HDEF right under the headers at the top of the file right after the first mustache. I used DSDT Editor for MAC-WIN-LINUX which I prefer to two others i use. I like EVODSDTse fine and DSDT auto patcher as well. Asus P5G43T-M Pro has been difficult to work with but so far have a working Lion 10.7.4 system. So, thanks for your help.
