Sony Vaio VPCF115FM Discussion: DSDT Injection

I just recently purchased an F series CTO. Its model number is vpc-f1290x. It has the HD screen and the geforce 330m.

What can I do to help? I would love to see this working. I need to find a retail copy of osx 10.6.3 to try mammoth's boot cd, so I currently do not have osx installed on my laptop.

Kizwan I'm sticking a fresh (vanilla!!) OS X 10.6.4 install in my machine in about 15 mins or so (however long it takes for 10.6.4 to finish updating).

Once I get that done, if I have video (and if the OS boots all the way, hopefully it does!), I'll pull a fresh DSDT from DSDT tools and make one from everest too. :P

Other thoughts: I tried the EDID injection on the 2nd link posted on the last page (where the dude said he could choose a color profile but not resolution), and same for me. I took 10.6.4's default NVDANV50 kext and NVDAResman (of course), added 0x0a2910de into the PCI primary match area, and....

nothing! HOWEVER, no video lag :P

Annoying though!!

The only nice thing about the vanilla install is it's really fast.

I'm running 10.6.4 too and it is really nice apart from the Wifi and Video. Does anyone know how to actually get to the wifi card in the Vaio? I took most bits off and it looks really tucked away and I can't see a way to get there but wondered if there was some special technique?

Let me know if there's anything I can help try out with regards to video stuff.

First, my system:

Vaio CW 2s1

1366x768, core i3, nvidia 330m

EDID:

MonInfo and SoftMCCS produce the same EDID.

The EDID from Ubuntu (/proc/acpi/video/NGFX/LCD/EDID) is also the same.

In Ubuntu:

When the graphics driver is installed, it doesn't load correctly.

We get the message: "NVIDIA (0): No display devices found for this X Screen. (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration."

and the driver doesn't load, the screen gets messed up and no acceleration.

With using the modified xorg.conf we get graphics acceleration, right detection of screen res and vga/hdmi out.

In xorg.conf we tell the nvidia driver where the display (DFP-0) and the EDID can be found.

In Mäc OS:

current state:

internal screen turns off,

vga-out is working with acceleration, but no res change (get a blue-greyish screen)

when i remove NVDAResman.kext, internal screen works without acceleration/res.change. (it's vesa mode, i think)

I am using no boot flags.

EDID injection:

I used SwitchResX only for finding the DisplayProductID and VendorID

/System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-756e6b6e/DisplayProductID-717

Then modify the IODisplayEDID Section with PlistEdit Pro (required for converting the EDID encoding)

The only result is, that we have a new Color Profile, no other changes at all.

My suggestions:

The way of injecting EDID brings no results.

It would be necessary to turn the internal screen on through the snc controller. And some other things could be enabled through snc.

Linux had problems detecting the right display, but knew how to initialise it, done by this driver:

http://www.linux.it/~malattia/wiki/index.php/Sony-laptop

also checkout this link (The guy has problems with the snc driver in linux and tried the dsdt functions manually):

I'll dig into that mathew, but I can tell you the NIC does get a hardware ID.

The NVDA Info seems *way* different than the NVDA info I'd get on my PowerMac (way, way fewer less entries, I suppose this makes sense because the driver isn't recognizing the card properly)

I've attached a full ioreg dump and for those who need them (with the vanilla install), the drivers you need to get the keyboard/trackpad to work.

Edit: also added a PowerMac G4 MDD + Geforce 4mx ioreg dump for {censored} n giggles

Edit #2: For {censored} n giggles, I dumped NVInject on the 10.6.4 kexts (all of which had 0x0a29 plugged into them), and got a black screen. The computer responded because I shut it off by hitting the power button and enter (on the popup screen). Sooo... lol :D Just saying! I made a custom geforce boot.plist but it never recognized the card (though it might have on that last one.. no idea to be honest)

Edit #3: Got the Sony to tether to my PowerBook over Bluetooth, going to play around with some black screen situations and see what I get. :>

Ok, I got the "MacBook Pro Update" drivers installed, back to the black screen and here's an ioreg dump for you :D

Funny thing is OS X says that it's a "GPU" with 0MB of memory.

I use SL 10.6.4 with Chameleon 2 Rc4 and FakeSMC 2.5. The system profiler reports Nvidia Card with 32MB vram. 1024x768 on internal display. 2 GB of 6 GB Ram. Keyboard and bluetooth mouse work. No sound.

MAybe this information is useful too?

The recent VoodooHDA 0.262 successfully loads here. It also seems to detect two soundcards. Maybe it has to be fixed by changing info.plist inside for the two audio devices ALC275 and HDMIAudio. But I don't really understand how to change the voodoohda config. Read info here:

I'm guessing it detects 2 soundcards caus the HDMI is suppose to be a seperate audio device? I will test it out today and see what happens. unfortunately i dont have an hdmi monitor to test audio out

Ok just tested it and i see 4 hdmi digital out.. guess thats what needs to be fixed with config. ill try that and report

This is true! Somehow, I managed to get it to recognize the nvidia one once as an HDMI device. It was active and all, and like a digital device I couldn't change the volume.

I couldn't, however get the intel device at the time. Go VoodooHDA guys!

I have no F- idea how to get SNC to do its stuff, except maybe to throw OS X's "acpi version" into the DSDT with the "windows 2006" flags or something. IThe DSDT is a mess to me.

Here's what you need to get sound working:

http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=355

Choose VoodooHDA.kext_261_Snow.zip under 24.04.2010

Once you drop it in, fix your permissions - OS X will {censored} at you, but I tried typing this in terminal (I imagine OS X will catch it as well)

sudo kextutil /System/Library/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext

And right after that sound worked :(

Edit: Oh, and you'll have a loud HISSSS. To turn that off, grab the VoodooHDA prefpane, choose 4: Microphone and then knock the input gain all the way to the left (off)

Double edit: Can't seem to get itunes to play anything though  And the kext won't load at startup. DANGIT!

Maybe you should remove AppleHDA.kext first, rebuild caches and then reboot. The VoodooHDA installer also removes this kext. If you boot and AppleHDA inside, the AppleHDA will match the device id first. Does this work for you?

@kizwan: Could you post your investigation also to the projectosx.com/forum ? I think there is much more activity and much more advanced knowledge there!

There are also extra boards for dsdt patching and a lot of developers. Maybe we should open there a Thread "Make VAIO and SNY5001 device work"....?

I've noticed that from a post on the F11 in Linux, the display shows up with the device ID 10de:0be3 (FWIW, the onboard sound controller is at 10de:0be2....)

I can't seem to figure out WTF to do with that info.. yet.

I also tried the SNY5001 kext laying around (there is one), but ... it doesn't load. Here's a thought though, pci104d,9067 is the SNY5001... eg 0x9067104d.

No useful {censored} there ;)

More Edit: Don't bother with the P Series SNC kext that's been floating around. It relies on something that I can't seem to find any info on (unresolved symbols)

now it must happen we need a thread for snc because everythinggs works on vaio instead of snc control

I started a thread this morning for that purpose :thumbsdown_anim:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=225051

You should post more information regarding the SNC device; Why it is related to internal display? & more. You should do some research about SNC since it is you who opened the thread. It is best to show codes, taken from linux SNC driver, which enabled the internal display on linux. These information can attract other gurus to look into your problem.

IMHO, since SNC is controlled by DSDT, this thread is already a good place to discuss about it. There is no point to open another thread for the same purpose in the same forum.

Kizwan, I am doing as was suggested in your absence. To be honest, looking at the DSDT code makes me wanna vomit, so I'd rater not bother right now.

I feel like I've wasted enough time (a few weeks of good days to do work) to try and get this working.

LOL :) . No one asking you to wasted your time. I'm doing this on my free time & it doesn't interfere my job at all. As I said earlier, if you want to build SNC.kext, you will need to refer the SNC code in DSDT. I bet you'll wanna vomit a lot. LOL. Right now I'm looking on how to obtain monitor vendor ID. So far no success yet. When I have anything useful for VAIOs, I will update this thread.

I just purchased a copy of OSX 10.6.3 after a huge battle at bestbuy (I hate that they pretty much are the only electronics store around here) and I got it installed using mammoth's method onto a spare laptop hard drive (i'll just swap between the osx one and windows).

I noticed my cpu (a core i7 740qm) is recognized as a xeon quad core. is this bad?

I'm starting college soon in computer engineering/computer science and would love to try to help.
