I'm just one of those guys who comes up with weird question and wonders what people think about it.

So would anyone take in their hackintosh laptop to an Apple store, sit there and use it, the way a lot of Apple users do with their Genuine Apple laptops?

(I'm laughing while I’m writing this part)

>>>>> Would anyone go in and show the laptop to an Apple Tec and ask for technical assistance? <<<<<

:):):hysterical:

Would love to see the look on the Tec’s face. "Emmmm... Am I allowed to help this guy?"

Followed by “SECURITY!!!” :police:

This is a really dumb thing to do, but if you caught a relativly new Apple convert he would be like "How the hell did you get OS X on this?!?!" He would be all into it until the manager saw it and took yer laptop. LOL It would be a fun joke, but you could tell them: " Hey you can run XP on your machines and i can't run OS X on mine?" wtf?

Yeah... What right would the manager of the apple store have to take your property? He could ask you to leave... but what's wrong with sitting outside the applestore with your laptop with a big logo on it saying "OS X HACKED FOR NON-APPLE HARDWARE!"?

As far as I can see, running OS X on your laptop is a tort, not a crime.

Burning a copy of a DVD you dont own actually IS a crime... but how many people who arent doing it to sell have ever been arrested?

Running OS X on your vanilla hardware is analagous to using your VCR to tape network TV. Who the F Cares?

My favourite thing is when people say "Running OS X on your PC hardware is illegal"

I just say "Call the Police"

On that note... OS X 86 Project should produce T-shirts that say "I run OS X on my Dell, nyah nyah!". Proceeds to maintain the board.

I walked into the apple store (im only 16 btw) and started telling people who were looking at buying macs that they could run the same os on their pc and the stared at me like "get the f**k out, no way!" and most of them walked out, oh, and another time i was wearing a tee-shirt that sayed "i run osx on my compaq" and walked in... i got kicked out by security both times and they told me not to come back, but i will be back as soon as my ipod breaks again!

it was really fun and funny, you people should try it! i got the idea from this post!

I'm so glad I created this thread. Some of the stuff here is the funniest stuff I’ve heard in a while.

I can imagine the Tec saying "my god... your system is so cool (as in not hot - as in not warm) unlike most of the new MBP's and MB's we have here. How come?"

I'm like: "it's called a Dell".

New Apple convert he would be like "How the hell did you get OS X on this?!?!"

"Let me show you.... I got all the programs you need with me. Why not let me use one of those tutorial sessions you guys use, so we can show everyone? Ok we're ready to go. Now I just need a pc laptop. Anyone? Ohhh yeah...The Apple Store."

"Hey you can run XP on your machines and I can't run OS X on mine?" wtf?

So F'in true. "At least my dual booting system doesn't burn my fingers."

That’s so wicked! So frickin funny too. I could imagine the look on people’s faces when you told them. People who were about to spend thousands buying a new MBP when they had a fully working pc laptop at home that could possibly do the same.

I can't believe they kicked you out though... I guess they had to do something. I would love to give it a try and we should all do too... problem is if we create too much fuss Apple may make installing OSx 10.5.0 on laptops much harder or something. I don't know.

What would be funny is if you set up a stool with a mate right outside the Apple Store. One of you preaching "Apple runs on a Dell" holding a thick black book titled "The Right Way".

While your mate has a banner saying "Get You PC Laptop OSx'ed Here".

Also stopping people entering the Apple Store preaching "Brothers don't go in there. There is another way".

WTF ?!?!

it was a pretty hostile environment... to much apple fanatics some guy threaten to "tell on me" ! poor guy...

they kicked me out because i lost them 6 plus sales and they were pissed! They even called security to escort me off the premises, but i just stood across the street... it was really funny! I love messing with the reps in there too because they are like "i see you are looking at the ipod (or one of there desktops)" and im like "ya, i just wanted to see them whial mine are getting repaired again... pos" and stuff like that (becasue its true, im never buying apple again) and its really funny because they try and make it seem like its my fault (witch its not, im anal about my tech, not one scratch!!!) and they {censored} me off all the time, so i like to return the favor! oh, and this other time this lady was amazed at the little webcam thingy inside the mac, and im like "i just got a $20 logitec usb one that can be used on all my pcs" and she had no clue that webcams even existed (she asked teh dumbest questions, but im not gonna go into detail)

There are no Apple stores where I live or I would do this. I saw this girl that worked in a gaming store (pen and paper role playing, etc). Cute young girl about to hit college and she spend like a few thousand saved up for college on a MBP and ipod stuff. She had the MBP out and was watching Star Wars and I noticed the MBP and she showed it to me. I liked it, and I have to admit, the design kicks ass. I told her though that now since Intel chips are in it, there there is nothing unique barring the case design. I wasn't putting her or her purchase down, we had a geek to geek talk and she even admitted that she didn't like Steve Jobs. It was funny, she said he was a "dueche" (spelling?) but even though he was, he made great hardware. It was funny. I guess I am rambling. oh well.

I would definately go to an Apple store with a OSX86 t shirt.

I for one don't believe a word of what you've said. If you were smart at all, you'd realize how much of a dumb a** you are for trying to "show off", just because nobody in their right mind would do that. I for one have more important things to do in life than to (within fifteen hours of seeing a post) walk into an Apple Store TWICE, once wearing a stupid homemade T-Shirt that you stayed up all night making. If you really did that, I doubt the employees would have called Security to escort you away. Your sorry fourteen-(or sixteen)-year-old white behind would have been thrown in a squad car until your mommy could come back to the mall to pick you up.

Besides the lack of pictures of most of the things that you described, the one picture that you did procure is of a crappy Compaq case which looks like it hasn't been moved in ages. I doubt you even own an iPod, and if you do, I understand why the Apple people think it was your fault that the iPod was broken.

Why don't you try cleaning up your stories a little bit more before you post them here? Get a life.

The cant arrest me and they cant sue, the worst they can do is kick me out. You can wear whatever you want as long as it is apropreate (osx86 is appropreate) and the worst that they could do with me and my pc was try and force me to wipe the harddrive and sue for warez, but since all my oss are legit they cant do that ether. Read more and think before flaming and besides, i have 4 ipods in the famially, two shuffles, that i just got for free, a mini, and a 60gb. Ill take a picture if you want to prove it, right next to the pc... and they are pieces of shi*, they break all the time, my dads broke 6 times (the old 40gb that got stollen) twice straght from the apple store! and i move the case all the time, i just clean the {censored} offa the top... its not that hard, there is just a couple of cds on top (bad habbit) and my sennheisers.... and you can clearly see TWO of my ipods right infront of the pc charging, behind that really old trackball mouse... so that was just stoopid. thanks for your stupidity!

I hate apple

Oh, and btw, ITS SUMMER, as in i have all day to sit around boored, think of ways to mess with people, and hang out with friends, and go to the pool! I HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD!!!!!!! oh, and they wont call security unless you put up a struggle or are uncivil.... ALSO, that sticker i put on the case came WITH THE IPOD.... as two of them come in every ipod box

Beleive it or not, someone that works in the local Maccafe here near Toledo, runs Os X86 on his computer. That's actually how I got into this. Me and my dad were there, him buying himself a Mac Mini, and we're talking to the guy at the register, and then my dad said that "It would be nice if Mac ran on AMD chips." The guy saids "There is an OSX86 project out, and I run it myself." He gave us the link to the wiki, and it went on from there.

I love it when people like you come on here and run their mouth and flame, really not knowing what you are saying. hah! :) I would gladly make me an OSX86 T shirt and go to an Apple store if I had one where I live. Why? To get the info to the Mac community and maybe hit Jobs in the pocket and MAYBE make him rethink the whole OSX on Macs only.

bwhsh8r, man you got to have bad luck. I have had no problems with iPods. Weird.

Thanks guys for making this thread. It inspired me and my sister.....

Yesterday night I took me sister's Inspiron (os x 10.4.7) and went to the mall where there is an apple centre.

I went into the apple centre and while one of the staff was previewing a macbook pro to a few people, I opened my hackintosh and then opened itunes and switched on "hips don't lie". Suddenly I found many people comming towards me to see what I was doing so I started to open applications and preview OS X.

You can never imagine the look on the faces of the staff at apple. They where like "GOD.... How on earth did you get OS X (10.4.7 while the one being previewed in the shop was 10.4.5) on that dell. A minute later the manager of the shop came with the mall's security and kicked me out of the mall. Man was that embaracing.

Anyway, I am glad I live in Egypt because an act like that in the US would probably get me arrested......

Cool Ahmad. Though you are right, it would get your arrested here. I wouldn't take a laptop to an Apple store, but I would wear a shirt. They couldn't make me leave, would be discriminating against me and I would let them know very quickly their asses will be sued if they try to. Then they would have to put up with me while I spread the news of OSX86.

I dont see how that could get you arrested. You arent committing a "crime".

As far as I know, you cant go to jail for figuratively pissing in someone's cheerios

(though actually pissing in their cheerios would probably get you into trouble)

And costing someone business is a tort, not a crime.

What's going on is a proprietary operating system is running on hardware it is not authorized to execute on , but ovecourse there are virtually no law enforcement officers out there who are going to understand what that means and even if they could grasp the concept I'm sure they have much more important and easier to prosecute crimes on their plate.

That being said , in my opinion what's being proposed here is in very poor taste and not something I , and hopefully most, as an adult would do regardless of the fact that no arrest would be involved.

Pleanty of people build kit car diablos and such , does that mean they should drive into a Lamborghini dealership and tell people there stupid for paying 150K+ for a real lambo when they could just shoe-horn some kind of V8 in an old Fiero and make it look like the real deal?

I know the analogy is not perfect , but it's the best I could think up. The person looking at the lambo is much like the person at the apple store , they don't care if there are other choices out there and it's best not to bother trying to enlighten them.

Remember , a fool and his money are soon parted , and this is never more true than in your local apple store :P It's best not to get in the way of the process.

Well gwprod12, the only thing I could see them brining you in on is pirating. I mean if you have OSX86 in front of them, no different than Pirates Bay being raided. You could be arrested for possesion of pirated software. Now if you own an Intel Mac, then I think you could get by with it due to the fact you own a license to OSX Intel version.

Has anyone (in the united states) ever been ARRESTED for software piracy? Maybe a group of people stamping out 10,000,000 copies of Windows for sale on the black market. But 1 copy of OSX? pfft.

http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/eousa/foia_readi...e9/crm01852.htm

BIG EDIT: Software piracy is actually the production of unauthorized copies with intent to sell or make profit. What is technically being done here is "Copyright infringement". The reasoning behind not penalizing people criminally (even if it were possible), I think is that it would generate a LOT of bad will for a company (that goes for suing people too).

This topic is loosing it's funny side thanks to you guys.

phoenix3200 what's wrong with you? If you choose not to believe what max says that's completely up to you. I personally don't really care if its true or not. It doesn't shake my world either way. It's just a funny story. And that's enough.

So stop being a mood-damper please. All of you.

This was meant to be a fun topic. Not one about "can I or can i not get arrested".
