Some really essential features still missing

To me there's a couple of features which I would really love to see implemented into the forum boardware:

1) inside each topic: a 'Subscribe to thread' button

2) inside each topic: a 'Thank you' button. Advantages:

- an easy way to say "Thank you"

- less cluttering of of the forum with an entire posting merely saying "Thank you"

- pressing "Thank You" moves the topic up. That's much more convenient than posting "up" into a thread ..

3) a unsubscription link right in the email one gets about a subscribed posting in which somebody has posted

4) a spoiler (hide text) function in the editor window, which results in a button 'show' in the written topic. That way longer paragraphs of code etc. or images can be accessed *on demand*

Thanks & greetings,

Lee

1) Click on the options button and its 1st option we may include a seperate link/button if you want.

2) I very much doubt this will be included. Saying a pre-defined thank-you message is plain boring.

3) We'll look into it :)

4) We may/maynot include this

Hi other. The vbulletin boardware has this feature ever since v.3, used e.g. in Germanys greatest community board.gulli.com. It is soo much more than just a simple thank you button, because it can be implemented in a way that, simply by pressing it, you mark that topic as interesting and move it back up in order (for that moment to the first place). That way any board which offers this function has much less double postings, because important stuff remains up longer.

The "Thank you"'s are not just counted but also displayed, so you have a very exact measure of a topic's real value. Beyond a certain number of counts a topic can become a sticky.

BugsBunny,

Thanks for taking the time to give us all of these suggestions.

1. Other's instructions are right on. Would a separate button be a good idea?

2. I've thought about a thank you system in the past. I agree with other that posts are generally more personal, but I'm not opposed to the idea. What do other folks think?

3. We'll see what we can do about this. We may be limited by the Invision software we use. :graduated:

4. This is a really good idea that may be outside the scope of how much we can hack the IPB software on our own. It's a feature request I'll definitely let the Invision guys know about, since it's a great concept!

If you have any more suggestions, please feel free to let us know!

(P.S. I edited out the Macsanity post since we're talking about it in the other thread.)

Hi Mash my x86 Guru .. :D

< 1. Subscribe to thread' button: Other's instructions are right on. Would a separate button be a good idea?

I tried that - under these options I first have to add a reply in order to track a topic. If I don't: "The error returned was: You must enter a post". That's rather awkward. For some topics it's great to simply track the development without having to post anything if one cannot contribute actively at that point in time.

< 2. 'Thank you' button: I've thought about a thank you system in the past. I agree with other that posts are generally more personal, but I'm not opposed to the idea.

The thing is: it is optional! People can still write "Thank you Mash" .. :gathering: . There are some topics with tips where a hundred people or so have looked into and nobody said "Thank You", for such tops a button would be great. But really the deeper meaning is to move a topic up effortlessly.

< 3. unsubscription link right in the email: We'll see what we can do about this. We may be limited by the Invision software we use. :)

Yeah I know what you are talking about .. :)

Ever since that feature has been implemented into the Gulli.board the average topic has become sooo much easier to read - people love and understand using this feature: just the main information is written right into the text

anything else in here .. :gun:

. If you want I can send you the JavaScript.

OkeeDoke I would, but to be honest this board-soft is pretty perfect apart from those 4 features which we have learned to love from vbulletin v.3 oder @ Gulli B)

< I edited out the Macsanity post since we're talking about it in the other thread.

fine with me. After doing alltogether 4 hours of sports today and now drinking a special kind of beer I suddenly start to like the name, too .. prolly it was just lack of motion that kept me from appreciating the newly chosen name .. :D

Oh anyway, I will launch a competing forum MacSanity.org - no just kidding - the beer is too good.

Greetz,

Bugs.
