I'm working on cleaning up the documentation on running OS X on the HP Mini 311. Most of the docs are on (or linked to) on http://code.google.com/p/hpmini311/

I have a number of questions which will help me clean up the content.

1) is there a concise guide to installing wifi in the 311?
2) what are the benefits of flashing the bios?
3) does the mac know the difference between an Ion and Ion LE video card?

I'm certain that I'll have more questions as I continue.

What do you mean by that. Installing a wireless card?

2) what are the benefits of flashing the bios?

1. Overclocking
2. No Whitelist - biggest reason
3. Custom boot logo

3) does the mac know the difference between an Ion and Ion LE video card?

No. ION LE is basically when the card criples itself for Windows XP (because XP couldn't be be sold with a Directx 10 GPU per microsoft).

Our IONs are seen as a 9400 anyway.

FYI, the ION GPU is a 9400m. Mac OS X reads it as a 9400m because that is exactly what it is

Good morning/afternoon.

I have a few questions for you, mattkime :
On this how to : http://code.google.c...lMacOSX106HFUSB, you use HF4, HF4 v1.1 and HF5RC1

LeMaurien19 still seems to use HPM311DP_1109GA or HPM311DP_1109CHF4.
Question 1 : Are HF4 and HF4 v1.1 any better than the "_1109" versions ?
Question 2 : Why do you use both a HF4 and a HF4 v1.1 (not twice HF4 or twice HF4 v1.1) ?

HF6RC2 is out.
Question 3 : Why do you stick to HF5RC1 ?

Upon final restart, LeMaurien19 advises to hold F8 during Chameleon boot to add "-f" flag.
You don't.
Question 4 : is the "-f" flag useless ?
(By the way, holding F8 never had any effect on my Chameleon apart from Beeping.)

There is nowhere I found clear advice on what BIOS version is necessary/wise.
Stick to original ? F14 ? F15 ?
The only info that is clear to me is that IceLord's F14 BIOS is deWhiteListed and allows overclocking and boot logo changing.
Maybe you could add a section on what BIOS to choose...

Thank you for spending time putting all tips and tricks on a single place ! :o

Have a nice day !

Cobus.

I'm a bit confused about the various versions of HF5, although I know I've had little trouble with HF5RC1 (no sleep, but thats fine for me)

hopefully LeMaurien19 can answer most of your questions.

I don't think there is much reason to switch BIOSes aside from the reasons you listed plus running an os x supported wifi card.

plus running an os x supported wifi card

err... that's what

2. No Whitelist - biggest reason

is for: if you stick a supported card in the half-height slot without flashing the bios, the 311's will refuse to boot up because of the whitelist! :)
