Hi Everybody ;)

I have a laptop Asus UL50VG with dual graphics card:

Intel GMA 4500 MHD and Nvidia Geforce G210M

Somebody knows if the nvidia geforce g210m can have qe/ci acceleration

The problem i have is that the integrated card load by default (intel gma 4500) in both windows and iatkos.

In windows pressing a button it changes from intel to geforce g210m. With iatkos this does not work.

I believe that the nvidia card can run, but i need disable the intel gma 4500 first. You Have any idea of how to do this.

Thanks in advance :)

Thank you so much.

on bios i don't know where is the option to disable intel gma.

Only there are this options on bios on advance:

asus easy over clock

ide configuration

star easy flash

asus fancystart

internal pointing device

post logo type

play post sound

speaker volume

intel virtualization tech --> enabled

intel VT-d --> disabled

legacy usb support

I don't know where is the option.

Now i have windows 7 and iatkos and i'm waiting for iatkos s because i have tried to install snow leopard with empire efi one month ago and i haven't any sucess. I have the same error: still waiting for root device  ¿?

For this, actually im waiting for iatkos s that's is the unique method to have mac os on my laptop.

Thanks Again :) and sorry if my english isn't good. I'm from Spain.

Waiting for root device has something to do with ACHI mode, thats something like IDE but better.I think you have in IDE Mode so try to switch in your Bios to AHCI under your SATA drives

Device: Hard Disk

Vendor: ST950032 ...

Size: 500.1 GB

LBA Mode: Supported

S.M.A.R.T. : Supported

- AHCI Port 1 Atapi CDROM:

when i selected displays SATA Port1: (option selected auto). i can select auto or not installed.

AHCI Port1

Device: ATAPI CDROM

Vendor: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GU10N

LBA Mode: Supported

I will prove today all the options to see if i have something of luck to change and post it here.

it's imposible. Always the same error.

Im using empire efi 1.08

Snow Leopard Retail

My laptop is already on AHCI mode by default.

if i change the option enhanced (selected by default), for compatible, my laptop is on ide mode. With this option always appears still waiting for root device. On AHCI mode appears too.

I don't understand where is the problem.

I think the only possibility is using iatkos s for me.

regards.

Seahawkwest,

You can make the G210M the default by going to the "Advanced" tab in the BIOS then selecting "IDE Configuration" and then changing SATA Operation Mode to the opposite of what it is now. (I think Enhanced is nVidia G210M and Compatible is Intel x4500MHD, but I don't remember so try both).

I am also trying to install Snow Leopard and have fully functioning graphics, so I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks so much, but always I had enhanced mode, no compatible mode.

With Iatkos v7 i no have qe/ci

On the description of the bios says:

"Select compatible to set serial ATA Channel at IDE Mode for OS not supporting Native Sata controller like Windows XP and 2000 or it will run into BSOD when installing windows"

On the previous post, Oliver said to me that the problem is my Board does not have Ahci mode for my SATA drives only for the Optical one (CD/DVD) but not Hard Drives.

My Hard disk have two options auto or not installed.

The unique solution is install iatkos s and then try switching video card.

With empire efi install snow leopard is not posible on my laptop.

Thanks again.

It didn't work for me :D The EFI registers but doesn't do anything good--it causes random artifacts on the screen. Did you use 64 bit or 32 bit NVenabler?

Also, seahawkwest, I have mine set to Compatible and that sets the nVidia card to be the default. If I need to boot into Windows 7 I just switch it back. I have successfully installed Snow Leopard and Leopard (with iAtkos V7).

Ok I understand. ;)

But your laptop has achi mode no? This is the reason why you can install snow leopard but i can't.

My laptop has 64 bits too.

Any question: What is your laptop ?

You have these two graphics cards : geforce g210m and gma 4500 like me ?

I have the ASUS UL30VT-A1: http://www.amazon.com/UL80Vt-A1-14-Inch-Li...p/dp/B002Q8HK7K

Yes I have a G210M and GMA 4500MHD . I am installing to an external hard drive however, so I don't need the hard drive, but I will figure that out anyways because it would be nice to have.

Also, I got everything to work--without efi string, let me do a little testing and I will a guide.

i don't have much time but here is the jist of things:

Download Chameleon RC5 prerelease 12: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...st&id=67665

Install using the following guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=164809

Boot with GraphicsEnabler=y

I will post more indepth later (when I figure out wireless for my laptop [ Atheros AR5B91 168c:002b ]).

Oh, also I think you need to be running 10.6.3. You might also need http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1026 , but I am pretty sure you won't. If you do, you will need to install Pacifist and open the .pkg with Pacifist and install it that way, to bypass the check to a macbook pro.

But i don't understand, my english is not very good.

With this tutorial you have installed snow leopard without ahci mode ?

Do you have ahci mode on the bios of your laptop asus because i haven't it.

I saw on Uphuck forum that iatkos s is on test and will be release very soon. An user make a question to uphuck and he answered this:

by flydef:

Will iATKOS S3 be bootable without enabling AHCI icon_question.gif

Only have IDE in ASUS 1201n BIOS without a modified BIOS.

Uphuck.. Thanks for the info!

Asus 1201n netbook has the Nvidia MCP7A Chipset & Nvidia ION graphics Gforce 9400m

Everest says: North Bridge: nVIDIA Ion (MCP7A-IO)

South Bridge: [ TRIAL VERSION ] great.. heh

Agree that finding detailed specs about this system is difficult. Not in manual, Asus sites, etc.

by Uphuck:

yes but only 4 port non-ahci intel sata chips are supported

ich 8, 9,10 and 5 series 4 port non-ahci sata ids 2820 2828 2920 3a00 3a20 3b28 3b2e

btw i am not sure that eepc includes an ich sata/ide, probably an nforce, no info on brilliant asus website.

by Seahawk: :(

I dont understand this. Do you know if my laptop will be compatible with iatkos s or no.

I have installed iatkos v7 without a problem.

Thanks.

Regards Seahawk ;)

Thanks a lot :wallbash:

...

I want to write a more detailed guide, but I am very busy. I will try to write a guide that will work for you. I will try to write it in a simple English as possible so that you can translate this guide easily.

The problem is that we can either use AHCI Mode or the nVidia G210M because you have to set the IDE mode to Compatible. One solution is to install to an external hard drive. For example, I have a 160 GB external hard drive that has 4 partitions: 1 10 GB partition for my Snow Leopard Installer, 1 40 GB partition for a Leopard install, 1 40 GB partition for a Snow Leopard install and a 70 GB partition for storing data (so that both Snow Leopard and Leopard can access them). This works well for me because if I mess up something, I can plug it into my Lenovo S10 Netbook (which runs Snow Leopard perfectly) and fix it.

Another solution is to add some kext's to the Snow Leopard Installation. Since you sound like you want to install to the hard drive, I will describe that process.

What you will need:

  1. ASUS UL30VT-A1 Snow Leopard.zip (attached at the bottom of the post)
  2. Your laptop partitioned into at least 2 partitions (one for Leopard, one for Snow Leopard) in GUID or MBR. I used MBR but it shouldn't matter. You can set this up with the Leopard (iAtkos v7) installer.
  3. An 8 gb or larger flash drive OR A 8 GB or larger partition on an external USB hard drive.
  4. A copy of the Snow Leopard retail install disc.
  5. Kakewalk.dmg USB version ( http://puru.se/ )

In the BIOS, go to the "Advanced" tab. Selecting "IDE Configuration" and press enter. Change "SATA Operation Mode" to "Compatibile".

If you don't have Leopard (iAtkos v7) installed, do that. You can follow this guide: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t=#entry1336106

In Leopard, create a USB Snow Leopard Installer using the these directions: http://www.insanelymac.com/2009/08/how-to-...pard-usb-stick/

Extract and mount Kakewalk. Run "Installer". Make sure the destination is your new USB Snow Leopard Installer partition. When it asks for a motherboard to select, pick Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR (the second from the top I believe).

After Kakewalk it done, open your Snow Leopard Installer and go to the Extra folder. If you can't see the Extra folder show hidden files using this guide: http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2008/04/sh...dden-files.html . Delete DSDT.aml and Extensions.mkext . Take all the kexts from the "kexts" folder in the zip I sent you and put them in the Extensions folder on your Snow Leopard Installer.

Unzip all the files in the "installer fix" folder in the zip that I uploaded.

Replace "System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg" with my OSInstall.mpkg on your Snow Leopard installer.

Replace "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/OSInstall" with my OSInstall.

Reboot and install Snow Leopard on the partition that you setup using your new flash drive by booting to your flash drive.

Once done BOOT INTO LEOPARD. Copy the Extra folder from the flash drive to the new Snow Leopard installation. Open the terminal. Type: "sudo -s". Enter your password.

Change directory to where you extracted my zip ( for example if you have a flash drive called "My Flash Drive" it could be: /Volumes/My\ Flash\ Drive/ASUS UL30VT-A1 Snow Leopard/chameleon/i386 ).

cd /Volumes/My\ Flash\ Drive/ASUS UL30VT-A1 Snow Leopard/chameleon/i386

Type:

diskutil list

Look for your Snow Leopard installation. Find the identifier in the far right column (disk1s2 for example) and substitute all future references to {YOUR IDENTIFIER} with whatever your identifier is.

Now, you need your rdisk. If your identifier is disk1s2, then your rdisk is rdisk1. If your identifier is disk2s1, then your rdisk is rdisk2.

fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/{YOUR RDISK}

dd if=boot1h of=/dev/r{YOUR IDENTIFIER}

Replace {SNOW LEOPARD DISK} with the name of partition that you installed Snow Leopard on.

cp boot "/Volumes/{SNOW LEOPARD DISK}/"

Remove the r from your {YOUR RDISK} and you have your {DISK}. {PART_NUM} is the number after the s in {YOUR IDENTIFIER}

fdisk -e /dev/{DISK}
f {PART_NUM}
write
y
exit

It will look like this (pic by c0rk007hck): 88919390.png

Now reboot. Chameleon should now say at the top that it is RC5.

Choose your Snow Leopard installation and boot with the flags -v -f GraphicsEnabler=y .

Everything should work (except for sound and WiFi. Trackpad seems to be hit or miss so have an external USB mouse.)

In the future you can just boot with GraphicsEnabler=y . You can also add it to your com.apple.Boot.plist so you don't have to type that every time.

After you are in Snow Leopard, you should install ASUS UL30VT-A1 Snow Leopard/post-install utils/myHack_lspci_Installer_1.0.mpkg . This can be very useful for debugging. Typing lspci in the console after installing this gives you the device ids and vendor ids for everything on your system.

You can also install pfix3.0.mpkg if you want. Kext Helper b7.zip is useful for installing kexts in the future.

Hope this works for you :P

Woooow .... very good.

Now the next weeks I will be with the university exams but I promise that if iatkos doesn't go out soon, then I will install snow leopard using your method.

Thanks again.

Any question. I know that last asus laptops of the market has Realtek ALC269 audio.

Asus UL50VG, ASUS K40IE, ASUS V51NV, etc, ...

On iatkos i have no sound yet.

I don't know if you have this type of audio ?, but if you have this audio, on this post yesterday i have seen the posible solution.
