Some questions for iPhone developers

Hi,

I was interested in starting to develop some iPhone applications and sell them through the AppStore, but before I commit time and money to this project I want to be sure that I fully understood what I need and what I don't to do this, so I'm asking some developer if he can answer my questions.

I wanted to enroll in the standard program (99$ per year) and from what I've understood I don't need to be a company to do this. Do I need any specific "document" to be accepted (please note that I'm not from the US)? Also, I've seen that in the procedure you must follow to submit an application an iPhone is mentioned: do I need to have an iPhone if I want to submit applications or not? The iPhone simulator is nice, but if I need an iPhone anyway when submitting the application it is completely useless.

So, in a few words I just wanted to know what *exactly* I do need, to avoid buying a mac or something and then later find out that I'm not allowed to submit my applications to the AppStore.

Thanks,

Bye

its best if you have a mac but if you have a hackintosh you can get the job done but it seems like apple is moving away from leopard so a machine that runs snowleopard will eventually be required. You can enroll as a individual developer but you will only have one member on your team unlike how a company membership will allow you to have more for the same price, you would just have to provide some proof that your company exists. It helps to have some kind of device running iPhone OS such as iPhone or iPod Touch, it doesn't make any sense to develop for the device but you dont even use one to test on

Thanks for the reply.

So, since I'm a single individual the standard things seems alright.

The problem is, I'm already thinking about buying a Mac to start develop seriously and I can't afford to buy an iPhone/iPod touch too. The point I'm unsure about is it it just helps to have an iPhone (and this is true of course) or sometime when submitting my application it is *needed* to have an iPhone to make the submission. I could also use a friend's iPhone, but I'd like to know this before starting seriously.

you can get away with not testing on device and just running in simulator, the only things you wont know is how efficient the app runs on each device... what you could do is when you think the app is ready to go get a friend to test it or something

Get a hackintosh running Snow Leopard if you don't have that much cash. It's cheap and works really well.

You can run the App in the simulator, but if you want to submit it you definitely need to test it on a real iPhone or iPod Touch. Such a device is thus recommended as well.

But you don't need to get one straight away - focus on getting yourself setup with Snow Leopard and XCode first.

I also wanna enrol in the $99 program and I also stay outside the US. I'm not sure how one does this. However you can code and everything without enrolling in the program - XCode and the iPhone SDK are free downloads!

Yes, I'm already running XCode and the iPhone SDK on my Hackintosh and I'm starting to learn how to code simple applications. The main problem though is that I can't get the wireless card to work on Leopard and this is quite a big issue (moreover I've got some other problems with the keyboard and the audio not working).

I've also read that it is difficult to get approved by Apple in their programs: is this true? What are their selection criteria? I don't want to buy a mac and then being refued by Apple, so I think I'll firstly enroll to see if I get approved. Is it so hard really?

Hi, i have a doubt about submitting an app. Do i need to have an original apple pc, like an imac or macbook, or can i submit an app with a hackintosh, buying an apple developer license ?

Apple checks if i have a mac ?

i want to submit a game, so i found a bunch of Objective C books and the Stanford lecture.

i didn't know a business could use the same $99 license, guess i luck out on that AND business partner has iPhone.

my idea is game "LIKE" labyrinth with a different slant.

Really vaguely, what is your app? tell as little as possible!

I am a few days away from submitting my App to iTunes all proudly coded on my HackBook Dell Inspiron 1545 running Snow 10.6.3. Nothing wrong with using a hack. However some folks over at the iPhone Dev SDK forums thinks its 100% ILLEGAL to use non Mac hardware to run OSX. The question pops up allot over there asking about how to Dev on a PC and then a select few *cough*me*cough* jump in to suggest insanelymac/hacks. There are a few developers over there that are using Hacks as well. But I would also like to mention that I did buy a RETAIL copy of Snow for the record.

What the hell?!? Its cheaper! :thumbsup_anim:

If anybody has any questions about the inside of the Developers Member Area, Please ask. However I can not talk about Beta 4 outside of dev.apple.

I can even get you guys some sample apps with source code to open in xcode. All you have to do is build and run.

Hit me up....

im starting with a book knows as objective c for dummies. so far it's good. i am going to make a detailed wrestling game where the player controls major promotions like wwe, tna, roh, and the ability to create one. the game will be like the old pc game called promotion wars, it was a free pc game. no 3d graphics just worded wrestling management. without a doubt it will be the greatest wrestling game for the iphone. i have no plans to release it on ipad. if i get good enough at the code where i feel confident in making a 3d game i will make a 2nd part which will feature everything in the 1st from purchasing superstars to setting up shows, with a free management mode and a competitive management mode but i will add 3d factors. like when a player sets up their show they will have the option to play the match or simulate it with text.

I am a huge wrestling fan and surprised no one has made a game like this and if anyone tries before me i am sure it will be disappointing. Actually there is one similar where you have matches with your friends and it is nothing like i am talking about. that game looks retarded to be honest. I want my game to be in depth so it probably won't release until next year. I'd like to code in some kind of A.I. where when you read simulated matches not only are they all pretty much different but they also feel specific to the character. and if you create superstars you will have up to 5 personality traits to give him/her that will help there matches be unique. the chance of the 3d game isn't likely because as i fix bugs and crashes i will slowly begin a fight promotion version of the game.

So hopefully in 2012 I have bring the same great open wrestling promotion game to the fight scene with ufc, mma, strike force. the apps will be free, with the option to donate on the site because i have no interest in obtaining commercial profit licenses from the companies.

if any of you are interested in this let me know, keep my motivation high and feel free to drop requests for either wrestling or fight version. mainly because your idea for the fight game just might be great for the wrestling game as well.
