I installed snow leopard using hazards installation a little before that and it installed but i booted into verbose and it does the sae thing. I use the flags -v cpus=1 busratio=20

Specs:

Model: Dell Studio 540

Ram:3 GB

Processor:intel core 2 quad Q8200 2.33 GHZ

Video Card: Nvidia Gforce 9800 GT

Sound Card: Intel HDA

Thanks for any help!

Waiting for root device means that the installer does not see your HDD, you need a sata drive and have AHCI enabled in BIOS

Waiting for root device means that the installer does not see your HDD, you need a sata drive and have AHCI enabled in BIOS

You can also try to use USB Keyboard and mouse. If you'll cant, try modify config USB configs in your BIOS, disabling the USB Keyboard or mouse support. NOTE: if you're usind a Keyboard PS2 and a mouse USB, get any PS2 adapter and plug it to the mouse, go to BIOS and disable the USB Keyboard support.

Many times "still waiting for root device" error its provided by some type of connected usb device. Be sure that you dont have connected any Joysticks, flashdrives, etc, along the instalation.

***an last tip: I think the iAtkos v7 is most error-proof at instalation than hazard, so you can try another one if you'll still have much problems with this distro. Its a matter of compatibility to you mobo.

Post your results, please!

Yea it doesnt work still. Im trying to get a retail installation, but that gives me the waiting for root at the install. I was able to boot from Hazard's iPortable Snow Leopard and i found the kexts that i needed for it. I installed it on my main hard drive and it worked, but wasnt very stable. This is mostly because its for a flash drive or externel drives and is made to work on more pc's than one. If someone could help me figure out what makes it so iPortable boots up without an error (i dont even have to boot up with any flags with iPortable. Though its not ideal for a main OS)

oh yea thats a good point. Ill go head and check it out ill post back what the results are. (how would i put the kext in the boot-123 disc?)

Ok. If you're trying to make a retail install, forget iPortable. Use the Empire EFI and a retail disk, then be sure that you're bios config are ok and that you have no usb devices plugeds on the pc along the instalation (except USB Keyboard and mouse).

*** if you have a PS2 keyboard or mouse, get an ps2-usb adapter and disable the usb keyboard or mouse support on bios to skip the "Still waiting for root device" error.

Empire EFI is still giving me the Waiting For Root Device error. Heres some more info though: I have a wireless keyboard and mouse (not sure if it matters), and i boot with the flags -v cpus=1 busratio=20

I sincerely dont know if it matter, but i think wireless devices needs an kexts to work and you are just trying to launch the boot system. i would sugest you to get borrow usb keyboard and mouse(...). If you're cant do it, try to disable usb keyboard and mouse support in BIOS (the system will look for all devices before allow the installation).

Which version is your EmpireEFI?? You also can try the Legacy version for problematics mobos.

Yea i go to SATA mode and it says ATA or RAID. It has ATA Selected. Ill post up a video of my bios in a second (though everything might be backwards because my laptop hackintosh only see's things backwards through a webcam)

Fine... then you have to try to boot up with the EmpireEFI standard disc (i cant remember right now the version number) I'm talking about one that have the dark background clean, with just the "Empire EFI" logo written white. (not the darth vader version...) This one will give you more support to non-ahci hard disc acess modes.

Can you post some screenshots of your bios?? Its should help some...

Oh i know lol i think i might be able to fix it so if i can ill reupload.

i booted to the retail install but it doesnt recognize my mouse or keyboard. im using the empire efi here http://prasys.co.cc/2009/10/empire-efi/ its the one between the crossed out versions. (its a cooked version)

Ok wired keyboards and mouse's work but my wireless mouse and keyboard doesnt work. Any solution for this? (maybe i just have to fix it when the OS is installed)
