Since Prolific looks to have no interest in updating their driver for this 232 adapter a while back, there have been a few ports to improve upon the driver. The sf.net (http://osx-pl2303.sf.net) project was first on the scene and I've seen a few forks over the years to fix/patch the buggy parts. With the 64-bit transition, we were out of luck since the code is quite old (I noticed a bit of 32bit floats that broke upon compile and don't have the knowledge of kext/cpp to translate well).

Fortunately, some patches were submitted on the SF.net project page to fix this and some of the other various bugs. A person also posted a 64-bit kext that didn't work well on SL. In the past few weeks, I noticed some movement and this seems to be a working kext for 10.6/64-bit.

Much thanks to his work and others submitting patches since I highly doubt Prolific is going to pickup development.
