Succesfully installed 10.6.0 on Dell Studio 1558 now I need some help!

I am dual booting 10.6.0 and Win 7. It wasn't an easy install, as I needed to use two different boot CD's, and other kexts to get stuff working (a full weekend of work). I am having a couple of issues, and need your help!

Working: Wifi, Camera, 1280x1024 resolution, mouse/keyboard, bluetooth, battery info on taskbar, sound, (the overall performance of the system is fast!)

NOT Working: 1920x1080 resolution, QE/CI, keyboard hot keys, microphone, change screen brightness, sleep

This is my system configuration: (See Signature)

Please help! and thanks!

I don't know what to tell you, I have Win 7 running and have had no issues with it. Maybe you can try to use the install DVD and select the option to repair you computer? Also, keep in mind that my computer has the new i5 CPU, and it uses fairly different components than the previous Studio line which uses core 2 duo. The core 2 duos are, so far, more compatible with OSX.

i fixed the problem where it wont let me log into my normal account but whenever i try to boot into OS X it just freezes at the boot screen. I used iATKOS_v7 but now im gonna try kalyway 10.5.2. if you know of a later version of kalyway please tell me where i can get it. But if kalyway doesnt work i don't know what i will do. any suggestions would be great.

In windows vista or 7 download easy bcd use that to correct the boot loader, also i had success with ipc osx86 final. i used it on a inspiron 6400 and my amd pc. i found that it was easier to set up for some reason, it had a better selection to customize.

hope it helps

Yes, please! I would even pay more than two cents!

I would be even more happy to have it run in a VM so I don't need to dual boot. I would keep the VM on a e-SATA drive when I want to run it.

I used to do this with my MacBook Pro and Windows via VMware, now I want to reverse the process...

I have a 1558 with a Core i5 and Radeon 4570.

Do you mind writing a piece on how you successfully installed Snow Leopard on the 1558? I am trying to do the same thing, and some documentation on the process you used and any problems you ran into would be really helpful.

I would also appreciate such a guide. As of now, I've successfully installed Kalyway's 10.5.2. I just got sound to work, but have yet to do the same for Internet (WiFi or serial cable), the keyboard hotkeys (like the volume keys), and the system is unpredictable in whether it will mount USB drives or not. In addition, I get "Operating system not found" with regards to my Windows 7 partition, even though the data is there, as confirmed by OSX's finder.

Maybe I'm just stubborn, but I'm determined to get more functionality for my Dell Studio 1558. I installed SL on a desktop I built without a hitch. The Radeon HD5470 is the biggest wall that may keep me from reaching the promise land with this laptop. Here's what I got so far:

Specs

 • Intel Core i5-520M 2.40GHz [recognized]
 • 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 [recognized]
 • 15.6" (1080p) LED Display [Obviously not working with full resolution.]
 • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470, 1GB [screwed? Probably definitely!]
 • Creative SoundBlaster X-FI MB 1.2 [working]
 • Intel WiFi Link 6200 [Not working. Tried bcm43xx_enabler.sh but didn't work.]
 • 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery [battery indicator not working/showing]

Installation Method

 1. ##### ATI 5xxx-3 from TonyX86
 2. SL Retail DVD Install
 3. Update to 10.6.4
 4. ##### From TonyX86
 5. Restart, Install Dell Studio Kexts I've found on this forum

Thinking about getting one of these Belkin F5D8013 N Wireless Notebook ExpressCard to solve the wireless issues.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I installed iAtkos V3 S2 on Studio 1558 (i5 450, 4 GB RAM, GPT HDD, ATI 5470, RTL8168 Eth, Broadcom 4313 WLAN)

-started installation with boot flags "-v busratio=18 cpus=1"

-installed fine

-getting KP on reboot

-used ##### (latest ver) to boot & then used boot flags like "-v cpus=1 busration=18 GraphicsEnabler=No" to boot from installed partition

- installed 10.6.7 combo update that was downloaded from apple site (don't reboot after instalaltion)

- installed mutiboot as per tonymacx86 (with userDSDT & Voodoo PS/2), i had made DSDT.aml from my bios (with latest Bios update from dell applied)

- works fine, including wake up

-following is not working yet - WLAN, wake from sleep but graphics gets messed up after wakup, full HD audio (basic audio works)

I am not very experienced MAC user but i did lots of reading in past 2 weeks.

Hey,

I know your post is a bit old, but if you're still interested in getting 10.6.7 or Lion working, you can check out my guide for the Dell Studio 1558. Read the comments as well since there is A LOT of important info in it. I can't stress how much imp info there is that I haven't had the time to update to the first post.

If anyone needs any help regarding this machine just post there. I think I've gone through pretty much all possible problems!
