Intel aligns Conroe launch with Superman's return

WE FINALLY MANAGED to get the date for the magic day on which all the hardware sites on the wibblesome web will come to life with official reviews and previews into the world of Intel's wonderbra chip, Conroe.

The Core 2 Duo for desktops was scheduled to launch first on July 23rd, then pushed back to July 27th, now the launch has been brought forward. The NDA expiry for the Core 2 Duo platform is set at July 14th.

While we were puzzled at first with the whole week-forward-backward-forward movement, it seems that the date has been pushed forward in order to co-relate with a European IMAX release of a 3D version of the film Superman Returns.

Our moles are telling us that IMAX theatres will start the Superman Returns movie in IMAX version with a teaser-trailer for Spider-Man 3 and an advert for Intel Core 2 Duo - the desktop version.

Whether the ad part is true or not, the NDA-signing web sites will spring into life on the 14th..............."

After further research it shows that most benchmarks have the duo 2 conroe 2 at 20% or more which is just ok.

The real test and I don't know if this is possible, but probably will be with HACKNTOSH is since these chips are slated to run much cooler, is that a 20% overclock is going to be easy. I'm also wondering if someone will figure out how to overclock a MAC once the towers come out.

Expect to pay big $$$$ for the QUAD towers, although I think that if Apple makes a dual duo core 2 TOWER for $1999 we can expect higher benchmarks, and if they keep it in the $2000.00 this might be feasible.

Also expect the laptops to run cooler and the rev 2 buy Christmas.

The irony is that once the towers hit the streets, I'm wondering:

a) if there will be better driver support for GPU

:( Much higher performing systems via hackntosh towers as buying a dual duo core motherboard, overclocking should be somewhat easier than on a mac. What is also interesting is that VISTA is back into thinking about EFI instead of the bios.

Interesting times.
