OSX86 iPC 10.5.6 on NC4200

Edit 2/17/10 - Removed external links to comply with the Forum guidelines

This asumes you have downloaded and Burned a DVD version of the iPC Image and have partitioned your drive in the manner you prefer.

YOU MUST REPLACE THE MINIPCI CARD with an HP BRANDED Broadcom BCM4318 CARD

HP MODEL# 54gMAXPerformance (others may work, but this definitely does)

Boot from DVD.

Choose Customize install option.

Select the Following from list of available drivers and fixes

Kernels

9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel

Drivers

Legacy Time Machine Fix

Intel GMA900 (Video)

LegacyAppleIntelPIIXATA

AC97 Audio

AppleBCM5751Ethernet (will not work OBO, but we’ll fix later)

DO NOT SELECT A WIRELESS DRIVER

Patched USB Drivers

All Power Management Option (should be 5)

Fixes and Patches

ACPI fix

CPUS=1

Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5

UUID Error Fix

PS/2 Keyboard Fix

Patch DSDT w/ New HPET

Alternate Bootloaders

Chameleon w/SMBIOS/DSDT (or custom image version if you want it)

Apps

All Apps except Marvins AMD Utility

Install and Reboot (be sure to remove dvd player after power down)

VERY IMPORTANT - Use must use boot flags -f -v on initial boot!!!

Watch for any errors that may appear on first boot

Watch the pretty video, and get excited to start using OSX Leopard!!!!!

Fill out the requested info and the desktop will appear with full QE support!

The only things that aren’t working at this point are

PCMCIA(still unsure how to fix this...any help???)

Ethernet

Trackpad Scrolling and tap to click

Battery Meter

We’ll start with Ethernet(you will need the MAC address from you ethernet adapter)

Download AppleBCM5751Kext from post #8 on http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...amp;mode=linear

Follow Directions on same Page post #2

Restart

After restart your Adapter will be found but the MAC Address will be listed as all 00:00:00:00:00 and will not work with your router. You need to install a StartupItems script to set your MAC address on Startup.

Follow the steps in this thread as outlined so well by user timerace http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversi...php/t86326.html

After restart you will have a full working ethernet port!!!

Battery Meter

Download Voodoobattery.Kext from SuperHai’s Website: just search for it. Make sure you get the leopard version not the snow leopard version

Install Kext using Kexthelperb7 which is located in your applications folder

restart with boot flag -f

Done

Trackpad (Warning this process can hose your install if not followed precisely)

Downolad VoodooPS2Controller from voodoo projects website just search for it.

Remove three kexts from your “root”/system/library/extensions folder “root” is the name you gave your primary partition during install:

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ACPIPS2Nub.kext

/System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext

/System/Library/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext

did not have AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext???? but remove it if you do.

Install VoodooPS2Controller.pkg you downloaded earlier

Delete Extensions.mkext

Reboot w/ Flags -f -v and pray

I found that some of the click and dragging functions are sort of flaky, but scrolling and tap to click work great

Post set-up stuff:

I’ve successfully installed Ilife 09’, Iwork 09’ and several other software packages and so far they all have worked flawlessly. The version outlined above is 10.5.6, several of the newer applications require version 10.5.8. example: you will not be apple to use the app store inside itunes without 10.5.8. This is easily fixed by manually changing your version number. To do this edit System/Library/Coreservices/Systemversion.plist. there are two lines that state 10.5.6, change them both to 10.5.8.

I’ve successfully installed most of the updates from apples built-in software update feature. All of the iLife and iWork updates worked perfectly.

The ones I have not attempted are:

10.5.8 system update

Java for MacOSX 10.5 Update 5 (this software states it is for 10.5.8,

I haven't tried it because I haven’t had any java issues yet.

Digital Camera RAW compatibility (I dont need it, so not worth trying)

Remote Desktop Client update 3.3.2 (Again I dont need it)

Security Update 2010-001 (this one has had mixed success on the forum

so i’m not willing to attempt it just yet)

If you update the airport utility you may need to reconfigure your bcm4311 kext. There is a simple utility for this at http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=51725

i want to give a huge thanks to all of the users of the insanelymac Forum. None of the work above is my own, all of it was made possible by the users of insanelymac. A list of the users who i want to give credit for their work is below. If I left anyone out I apologize, please PM me and I’ll correct the list. Thank you again.
