[HELP] Atheros AR9285 on Snow Leopard

Yikes!! I've been trying for ages to get my AR9285 wireless working in SL 10.6.2 lurking on forums all over the place.

 

I've finally made progress and it's now being recognized by OSX, however the airport won't "turn on". Looking at the system logs I find this:

 

"ATHR: unknown locale: 60" -- which matches when I look in my sys-profiler under "AirPort" it reads:

Software Versions:

Menu Extra: 6.2 (620.24)

configd plug-in: 6.2 (620.15.1)

System Profiler: 6.0 (600.9)

Network Preference: 6.2 (620.24)

AirPort Utility: 5.4.2 (542.23)

IO80211 Family: 3.1 (310.6)

Interfaces:

en2:

Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x1089)

Firmware Version: Atheros 9285: 2.1.8.7

Locale: Unknown

Country Code:

Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 b/g/n

Supported Channels: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

Wake On Wireless: Supported

Status: Not Associated

 

The

is what I believe the problem is.

 

My question to any gurus out there is; Can I manually update the locale and/or country code?

installed 10.6.5 using legacy kext... connected through wireless... wooooooo!!!! Fully functional hackintosh baby!!!

 

 

Hooo Yessss It work !!!!

 

SL 10.6.4

Vaio

 

I see other wifi and mine. i can connect too and in system profiler he show country and code !!!

I didn't try it, but worked on 10.6.3. But that is a less problem. You can update your system and everything would be fine. Am I missing something or what is holding you?

 

 

I am pretty much new in this and somehow I am not able to install this and is wondering did I do anything wrongly.

Maybe somone can post a step by step

Where are you? What is working and what do you want to do with the system? Just post the questions.

Incase you want to update, it can also be done by downloading from apple's website, be sure to pick combo-package.

Basically I downloaded the kext file.

I tried to use kexthelper and kext utility. annd tried command to install.

All does not work. I am not seeing airport or anything. Will appreicate any help

Actually, you can download the update from this link http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1048?viewlocale=en_US (depending on your language).

After the update is done, start the kexthelper and drag the complete file IO80211, type your password and start (more drivers will be installed, but they only take some Mb). You will get an info like "restart and cross your fingers...." After restarting, it should work.

Incase it doesn't work, make sure you have the correct chip or you wlan is activated. Otherwise, you should run timemachine and reinstall.

I am just wondering - is the update real necessary? Will it really help my situation? I am using Asus T101MT which is an atom netbook. I am worried that 10.6.4 might not support atom ( I could be wrong)

That is what I can say. I am using a normal notebook ASUS. I think it's an update and not upgrade. That could be the reason but i am not sure. You can only try and make the experience.

I update to 10.6.4 and tried to install the kext.

The card is not started up by itself and I add a new interface airport.It is able to scan for routers but it unable to join them.

I updated to 10.6.4 and airport was not added at first and I got to add the intereface myself.

It is able to scan for router but it is unable to connect to it.

Hi . I believe that it is perfectly possible , because i had problems too with this RA9285. Different people report that it works on 10.6.x and it doesnt on 10.5.x . Now it works on 10.6.3 (iatkos s3 v2)

I have try by my own to make this card to work on iatkos v7 but it seems that works only on 10.6.x

I have followed this instructions

1. Find the kext named WIFI_AR9285 . Search for it on kext.com/wireless/atheros9285

2. Find the kext named KextUtility - same site

3. Go to S/L/E and ERASE your current IO80blala.kext

4. unzip WIFI_AR9285 , the result is the driver that you need , it has the same name IO80211family.....

5. move this folder IO80211blabla on S/L/E (just replace the one that you erased)

6. Unzip and start kextUtility .

7. Remember , that i have tried everithing else , but this realy works . i dont know why - i'm just sharing my expirience

8. Reboot.

9. It should work.

 

I want to tell you that my simptoms was the same - there are airport but there is no networks , or it is impossible to connect . So try this one , hope to help you

 

This is on ASUS K 50 IJ , but it seems that is possible on almost all machines with the same wireless card
