I have Audio working via the ALC885 code I found somewhere on this board.
I used tarugas applehda patcher 1.20 .
I got the ALC885 code txt file and dragged it onto the patcher.
Sound is working from the 1201N speakers. I haven't tried HDMI sound output .

NC

Which version of kernel do you use? (10.x? 32or64bit?)
I do what you say, but it doesn't work.

can you post your 885codec?

THX!!!

For those with more knowledge than I, the Project OS forum has an article on patching the AppleHDA.kext. Under "Chapter III: Fixing AppleHDA.kext", the ALC885 is used as an example:

"The codec I used in example, gigafail ALC889A(rebranded ALC885) was a easy one to fix, it just needs some minor adjustments (like setting one of the mics as internal and so on) and is ready to go..."

Perhaps this will help in our audio quest :|

ALC885? Where are you found this codec? In BIOS? This is mistake of BIOS Developer, may be in test`s version Asus 1201N worked with ALC 885, but now it`s not so.

If you look at VoodooHDA dump or Linux codec dump, or Everest Device List in Windows, you will found 2 sound codec:
* ALC 269 - 10EC:0269 - onboard sound codec
* NVidia MCP7A - 10DE:0007 - HDMI sound codec

ALC 269 and AppleHDA incompatible, because AppleHDA not support some instruction of ALC 269
MCP7A don`t work with speakers and headphone output.

Than so we can try to patch VoodooHDA, or use Bluetooth Headphone, or use external soundcard compatible with Mac Os

nightcastle, can you post your AppleHDA? And i`m interesting what version`s OS and kernel use you.

Great!
Still if we could get a patched AppleHDA it'd be better since we can trash the entire voodoo setup for a native apple one.

Does this sound driver deliver a good and clear sound ?!!
Oh oh oh, that should be great, and I just read that 3 fingers gesture are working with the trackpad (I always use this to go back/forward on safari : )
I'm probably gonna buy the grey one if you confirm for the sound :P
good great good !

Okay I patched an AppleHDA.kext the way nightcastle did, I think.
EDIT I have 2 possible solutions using a different linux codec dump. Within the two are two kexts, one from the default AppleHDA in the patcher and one from a snow leopard appleHDA.
Install these two kexts using kext utility.

Backup ALCinject.kext and AppleHDA.kext if you have them installed. Restore using Kext Utility if all goes wrong.

Next step is a linux codec dump from a 1201N rather then guessing on one.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to take off from work, nice going people, Can I change the top post to reflect sound working now? I haven't had time to try this, what exactly do I need to do?

Yeah, sound works perfectly, just replace your old VoodooHDA kext with the one posted above and then rebuild your kext caches.

HDMI audio still doesn't work though, but I'm working on the pin configuration for it.

K, there were so many scenarios going back and forth I wasn't sure which one worked! I will also change the top post to reflect working sound.

Oh wow! What a difference that makes. Now if my new wlan card ever gets here I will have a most excellent netbook. I will update the guide with this kext also. Many thanks to DiDDyDy, you made my day also!

That's great work !
I can't wait to receive mine. We should test 1337David solution too, I guess it's still better to use AppleHDA.kext instead of Voodoo drivers.
And if 3 fingers gestures are available with the touchpad as amf5 said, I think it should be mentioned in the first post because it's a great feature.
Thanks everybody !

It's a no go. Someone was going to convert the FreeBSD drivers but never responded. I inquired a few days ago on this forum.

Another question, how do you fix the keyboard mapping ?
Is there any thread on this forum with useful links or it can just be solved via osx preference pane ?
I was using an old logitec driver few year ago, but he wasn't mapping perfectly.
I am on azerty but any solution even for qwerty will be interesting.

There is an applicaton called spark that can be used to remap some functions, I found it at http://eeemac.blogsp...a-901-1000.html
as part of the boot cd download.
