Hi bobs

You can use the "standard" DSDT 3.14 or better follow the instruction in this page for dump the "code" for you processor

after that you post here and we can make a specific DSDT for you class processors.

HOW DUMP ACPI TABLES

Fabio

Thanks Fabio

dump.zip attached, hope this helps,

I tried the standard dsdt 3.14 but it wouldn't boot. Maybe to do with my using efi string for my two graphics cards?

THX I prepare it... :D

For now if you have 2 GFX use the 3.21 for the i7 965... (for now you just lost one steps .. maybe not...)

OSX check the data in any case..

Fabio,

Using the 3.21 for i7 965 has booted ok, but i've lost QI/CE as a result. On the plus side I'm running ~15 degrees cooler with this than I was before! Is that the speedstep working?

Many thanks for you help Fabio

bobs try this..

(the 975 is little complicated :) )

I w8 for report...

for the GFX part we try resolve 1 problem at time...

Other thing you need change your 4800 QPI link... with 7200 ?? (same things for 965 - 960)

<key>SMbusspeed</key>
<string>4800</string> // <-- this is ok for 920 - 930 - 940 - 950 -960
							  // 6400 = 965 - 975 - 980x

920-960 = 4800

965 and up = 6400

This is a good link for all Intel processors information

http://ark.intel.com/

Just start typing in the search box near the top right. I guess I'll wait on the installer until you have the 975 taken care of :-)

:compress:

thx to correct me...

Thanks Guys, your help is much appreciated.

Booting up fine with this 975 dsdt.aml, although temperatures back up to ~60 again, plus no QI/CE - can't tell the difference between this and the 965 dsdt - what should I be looking for? I tried with the smbusspeed at 7200 and 6400 - can't tell the difference here either.

My apologies for my noobishess. I'll be very happy to donate something to who/whatever, let me know :)

Cheers, Bobs

bobs add you spec in the signature pls..

why you use strings? some strange GFX?

the difference between the 965 DSDT and your is just one SS(data) more than 965.. but looking inside the other ACPI tablr from your dump

there are more other staff never see before...

give me 5 min I repost one different DSDT w/o cosmetics device injection for your 975 we'll see if this breack the stings injection for your GFX..

5 min I edit this post.

Using the latest boot cd as well as trying -x -GraphicsEnabler=n and arch=i386 still have the same problem. The snow leopard disc begins to boot then after all the text is done loading the screen goes blank completely. I have two GTX 280's with an SLI cable connected though since SLI is not enabled on a hardware level this should not matter. Any ideas?

No one else having this problem?

Hey there, I use EFI strings because I have two different graphics cards (have updated sig) and this seemed to be the only way to get them to work together ( and that took weeks of head scratching)

What's odd is that I went back to my original DSDT.aml to check that QI/CE was still working with that one and the temperature has dropped down to ~45. Temperature going at ~60 was what has led me to investigate my setup thinking something is not right. It's never been this low before (apart from trying the 3.2 965 dsdt). The only other thing I've changed is that I'm no using the smbios.plist from the bundle at the top of this thread, as this had the smbusspeed in and my old one didn't. I guess I'm in way over my head now!

thanks again!

This is one of my recent test adapted for the i7 975

DSDT v3.3beta

-

Fabio

Thanks Fabio,

3.3beta 975 Looks to be the same as the previous ones - no QI/CE but booting nicely and a low temperature. Is there any other data I can give that would be helpful? How can I test the SS side of things?

I see in you signature you have a combo GFX with[ NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB + NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 256MB]

I'm not expert in GFX but this malfunction is not related with the DSDT.

We can try help you... post your IOREG and writhe here your exact GFX spec like vendor total RAM ecc

Hi Fabio, thanks

Will get on that shortly. If it's not DSDT related, how come it works when I go back to my original DSDT? The gfx still works there without changing anything else?

Robin

As I say before... I haven't knowledge with GFX related..

Maybe some difference relate with change in the DSDT but is hard to find..

(I start modify the DSDT in november 2009... so very hard refind the step I do)

Post your IOREG and I add GFX data like EFI STRINGS in this last working personal DSDT for your i7 975.

Fabio

Other things...

always you signature..

why BIOS 0406???

Maybe some stange conflict with your new CPU (is close the exit)

zip file includes ioreg output and the plist I used to create the efi string from

ignorance is my reason for being on an out of date bios. Can't seem to get the updater to run though. Will try that too. If all else fails I can revert to the old dsdt. I don't want to take up too much of your time.

cheers

Fabio

Ps I see in your Ioreg txt form you have OpenHaltRestart.kext in the Extra... you don't need it more with the DSDT

del it and rebuild the caches

Hey Fabio,

Yeah graphics enabler didn't help although I've not looked at chameleon for a while, perhaps there's an update that enables dual graphics... will check.

That 3.3 beta wouldn't boot, got to the point just before logging in before showing me the "please restart your machine" graphic. Can't find anything obvious in the logs.

Thanks for your help on this but I don't want to take up any more of your time chasing wild geese. It's working well enough at the moment maybe I should just leave well enough alone! :) let me know if I can buy you a beer somehow :)

hi Robin...

Update your bootloader with Chameleon 2 RC5pre8 --> here

After this make sure you have no EFI strings for your two GFX in the com.Apple.Boot.plist and is present the strings with the key for GraphicsEnabler

The DSDT won't boot because there is a GFX problem with your 8400 gs (probably)

Still no joy I'm afraid. I had the dsdt.aml and Boot.plist all as you describe and it still crashes at the same point.

one thing.

The CPU i7 975 is exit near november 2009

the first i7 CPU Intel sell was 920 / 940 / 965

Your mobo and in this specific case the BIOS of your mobo (0406) "not support" this CPU

Maybe this cause some kind of issue...

If this still unresolved I make a DSDT M2.5 for the i7 975... but I say before is (for me) softhing related your old BIOS..

iFabio -- please help!

My problem is related to Robin's above.

I have dual GTX275's in my system with P6T deluxe V2 and i7 920.

I've managed to install snow leopard with one card, I've also managed to get that one card functioning perfectly with DSDT only (dual screen, QE/QI).

My problems start when I insert the second card -- I have nothing but a blank screen. I've made sure (several times) that I have selected the correct card slots for each card, I've also made sure that the information within the DSDT file for each card is complete and correct, as far as I can tell. EFI strings dont work either, I tried using Aquamacs dual gfx efi method but no dice.

Please... Any suggestions to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

My DSDT GFX portion (the part that matters?):
