Add FirmTek PCI Sata Controller?

I'm trying to expand my Hack a bit by adding a PCI 2 port sata controller card. The FirmTek SeriTek 1/S2. This works fine on my G4 Tower, but isn't showing up at all on my Hackintosh. I'm not really sure how to make it show up. I'm guessing I need to modify the kext to input the hardware ID#? I'm looking for a little guidance. Can anyone help me out? Does anyone else use this card successfully?

I'm running 10.5.6 with iDeneb. This is a fresh install w/ just the video drivers installed.

As it is an interface card for PowerMac, it cannot be used on Intel platform.

As it is Sil3112A-based card, however, you might be able to use it with ApplePCIIDE.kext, but no guarantee.

There is no driver for Snow Leopard there is however one for for Leopard so it could work with an Intel system which the OP is running using that OS. Which really begs the question since the OP knew of the product page why not try the support/downloads page to get the driver to try with??

It's an OpenFirmware card ( thus PowerPC only ).

Ok, well thats a bummer. Can I just buy a new 4 port PCI SATA card then? Any suggestions? Is there a card that is plug and play? I don't know how to flash a card and that seems to be the norm with adding one of these cards. Can someone give me some options for a cost effective (less than $50) card with 4 internal ports?

Well you probably have a couple of PCI-e x1 slots going to waste on that board so you may want to try one of the cheap Jmicron based cards they should do well enough for SATA only as the IDE controller has issues if > 3.3gb of ram in the system. Or looking at a Google search I did here the Masscool 2/2 internal/external at Tiger Direct looks like it will work as it is based on the SIL3132. I have a Sonnet card I used to use that worked flawlessly in Leopard hell Snow Leopard even but not in 64bit mode the current card I use is still based on that chipset but FirmTek provides 64bit capable driver mine are external cards though still should work internally as well once driver is installed.

As a note, I tried the Firmtek 32/64bit on my Atom 330 for a SI PCI-E 2 channel eSata card, and it caused kernel panics, couldn't even boot with the card installed. Removed the card and it booted fine; removed the kext and replaced the sil3132. Now the bootloader recogizes the card (gives me the option to boot from it with a linux drive) but once I boot into SL, nothing. Is there a workaround for this? Or perhaps a way to fix either kext? I'd have no problem doing the work if someone could point me in the right direction (need a port multiplier and my board is ICH7)...

Just seen this card for sale on Macrumors so if you can find one of these somewhere looks like it would work for you.

It is made by SIIG standard PCI 4 port internal in case you cannot get to the link.

Well good news. I was able to score a free SIL3132 4 Port SATA controller. My friend had an extra one!

I'm not sure what brand it is, but it looks identical to this one here

Anyway, I placed the card in my machine, but the attached drive doesn't show up. What are my next steps? Do I need to patch the kext to include the hardware id#? Sorry for being such a noob, but I don't really want to screw up my machine by doing anything stupid.

Thanks for the link to the driver. I installed the non Raid version for 10.5. I restarted, but nothing happened.

Hnak, so when you say the ports are exclusive, that means its either I use the internal or External ports?

If External port 0 is connected to the same location of the ship as Internal port 0, you should avoid connect drives to the both. The same applies to port 1. Though I have ever purchased 3 or 4 Sil3132-based boards, I have never seen 4-port capable one.

Currently, Sil3132 driver from the vendor is 32-bit only.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. So I have the 32 bit (10.5 non raid) driver installed. It's still not working, I'm guessing I need to edit the kext to add the hardware id#?

Generally, it is not necessary ( check the PCI ID somehow ). Does it work on Windows ?

If it's a generic Silicon Image 3132 card, yes, you can boot Snow Leopard from it (if the card you purchased has a boot ROM, which most 3132 have). I have an eSATA drive with a clone of my boot drive that I use for troubleshooting. And if you're also wondering, you can also boot Windows 7 off it using an eSATA device (provided that you supply the drivers upon install).
