I'm planning to buy an ASUS GeForce 9400GT low profile card for an old Dell GX280 I'm currently using with OSX (Tiger) on.

I haven't yet decided if I'm getting the 512Mb or the 1Gb model.

512Mb model: http://i44.tinypic.com/sb33mc.jpg

1Gb model: http://i41.tinypic.com/2921e8l.jpg

That depends mostly on which one is more compatible with OSX. I'm also not sure wether Low Profile cards of the GeForce 9400GT differ from the regular ones in terms of hardware.

Anyone with a low profile ASUS Geforce 9400GT card here who's had good results on Leopard (or Tiger)?

Would you recommend it?

If I go for the 1GB model? Will it cause trouble on OSX?

Thanks in advance

mine is the low profile one... Working fine

Yes Both should work for Dual Head or mirroring if thats what you require.

No, I meant 2 different screens, expanded. Possible?

Powerful enough to show 1920*1200 on one and 720p on the other..?

Thanks

So now I have read the entire thread but did not quite get a clear answer if "Palit GeForce 9400GT SUPER + 1GB DDR2 PCI-E VGA / DVI / HDMI SILENT" or "Palit GeForce 9400GT SUPER 512MB DDR2 PCI-E VGA / DVI / HDMI " certainly will work. It seems that there is hope to get them to work but would like to have a straight answer from someone who got it to work fully. I just don't want to buy a card that does not work, because that is exactly why I buy a new one. (can't wait until my HD4670 supported).

Would really appreciate an answer :)

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

"ASUS GEFORCE 9400GT 512MB DDR2 PCI-E VGA/DVI SILENT" is of interest also

Hi,I´m new at this forum.

I have the NVidia 9400 GT.

I´ve installed iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 Final and my screen resolution is 1024x768.

If I run Windows Vista my screen resolution is 1680x1050 .

How can I get 1680x1050 pixels in iPC?

My Display is LG Flatron M2294D.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have the same card (MSI GeForce 9400 GT), with the same distro, working perfectly.

All I did was:

1- Select in the "Install / Video Drivers" this option: "MacBook Pro Latest NVIDIA kexts"

2- Make a GFX String with OSx86Tools for my card and apply it.

Very easy, even for me that is a real noob !

PS: For the GFX String, you'll need a NVCAP String. I dumped the bios of my 9400 under Windows with Nibitor, obtained a *.rom file, from wich I extracted the NVCAP string with NVCAP Maker.

Hope this will help...

first of all kudos to Mcnutty and all those for helping us out.

now i have been following every single post on this topic but i still cant get my dual monitors to work ( one VGA , one DVI ) also i used the OSx86 tools to modify the EFi strings but it still doesnt properly show the graphics card name in About This Mac...

i downloaded the kext's on the first post but then i followed the #31 post to try to make it work and deleted the NVinject.kext and modified the boot strings...

i have tried all the different output options DVI/DVI , VGA/DVI , DVI/VGA but the two monitors refuse to start together....in all the options the VGA works but not the DVI and if the DVI and VGA are plugged in together none of them display, both of them go black.

but when i have only the VGA plugged in and it is displaying properly and then connect the DVI its switches over to that and the VGA monitor goes black...tried detect devices in display options but then it hangs.

any ideas?! please help.

I've got my 9400 GT fully working with CI/QE now thanks to tips from Fireofanor, Taz, and most importantly Aqua-Mac who's created an installer with the latest Apple nVidia driver release that updates drivers for the new cards/GPUs. That is the key.

Short guide on how I did it:

1) Download and install Aqua-Mac's nVidia driver installer. Don't think you need to remove exisiting nVidia kexts. Don't reboot yet, though installer will ask you to.

============

Dear Friends,

I couldn't download from this link alway said "The download Limit for the file is reached". Could you give me another link

I have installed 10.5.6 (Chameleon v2.0 RC1) using a BFG 9400GT 512MB (DVI/Svideo/VGA) with the monitor on the DVI port. I have tried using a custom EFI string (osx86 tools) using the custom NVCAP (as well as all the standard ones) for this card which yields no QE/CI. The drivers in this thread which seem to work like a charm, but the card runs at full speed for 3-10 minutes (gaming included), then everything becomes choppy no matter what I am doing. All 3d games, apps and desktop effects are very slow from that point on until the next reboot. I amhopelessly lost, and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

GAHHHHHH!

This is so bloody frustrating!!!

I had video and sound working, but was experiencing Kernel panics when my system was idle.

I wiped the system, re-installed, now I'm back to sound not working, Video not working at all. I've downloaded and installed so many different versions of the NVIDIA drivers that it's not funny.

One week ago, I could run applications that required Quartz Extreme and OpenGL, now I can't at all. Second Life keeps giving me a "Can't make GL Context" and freezes

To make matters worse, When I do a search using the exact same keywords on this forum, I never get the same results as I did earlier... A good example, this morning, I finally found an Audio Driver for ALC888 that not only worked but showed ALL of the ports, now I can't find that thread with the link to the drivers to save my life.

Can someone please tell me how to get my 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT working again?
