Dang it's hard to find this information: Okay, so neither laptop makers nor ATI want to give me the straight dope on this one. I've been trying to figure it out for a friend, and have gotten nothing. Which ATI mobility cards support 1920x1200 resolution on external monitor output? I know the X700 and higher generally support native 1920x1200 on the built-in LCD, but not all cards seem to be able to push out higher than 1680x1200 on external output, even with DVI. The goal here is to use the laptop with the external monitor, and no internal use when at the desk. Any ideas on where to find that? For example, the MBP comes with dual-link DVI on it, so it can run a 30" Cinema Display (higher than 1920x1200). On that note, I've seen 9700 Mobility notebooks with dual-link DVI as well. Granted you don't need Dual-link DVI support for that resolution. Edit: http://www.ati.com/products/mobilityradeonx700/specs.html (change x700 to x1300, etc. and you can see the other cards) The x700 does as well, in the chipset, but it doesn't mean the manufacturer won't skimp. The x600 doesn't support the resolution, and a quick look at every spec chart @ ATi seems to indicate that as long as you have an x700 mobility or higher the Chipset itself can do 1920x1200+. Sure with Dual-DVI, but the x700 isn't. "165 MHz integrated TMDS transmitter, for support of DVI Digital Flat Panels at up to UXGA resolution (1600x1200)" Supports 1920x1200 panels, but not widescreen externals. ATi says: # Dual integrated dual-link DVI transmitters * DVI 1.0 compliant / HDMI interoperable and HDCP ready Why would you have dual-link DVI and not support that?
