trying to install leopard OS 10.5 on a 1.6 G5 with OS 10.3.9

mac OS X install dvd loads on desktop

i select “install mac OS X”

it prompts me to restart which i do

computer restarts at regular speed with dvd drive going crazy

but afterward no welcome screen loads

re-selecting “install mac OS X” just prompts me to restart again

can’t ever get installer to load to get past this step

i am trying to boot the DVD from an internal burner that i’d replaced the original disk drive with and am wondering if the burner is the issue? (i am a non-expert with hardware/installs/etc. so please excuse lame questions.)

the burner i’m using is a samsung super writemaster DVD writer with lightscribe, bought from OWC, item SAMSHS202NBLS, which i have never been able to get to work right. it reads disks but won’t burn them.

i’ve installed patchburn, and system profiler and disk utility recognize the drive and that the install DVD is its mount point (if that matters).

system profiler info on burner:

ATA-6 Bus:

Vendor ID: 0x106b

Device ID: 0x0043

Revision ID: 0x0000

TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202N:

Manufacturer: TSSTcorp

Model: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202N

Revision: SB01

Serial Number:

Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW

Disc Burning: Vendor Supported

Removable Media: Yes

Detachable Drive: No

BSD Name: disk1

Protocol: ATAPI

Unit Number: 0

Socket Type: Internal

OS9 Drivers: No

any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated

thank you

You should be in this forum http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showforum=59

Are you sure its a leopard disk for a G5(PPC), not an intel install disc.

thanks for the reply and forum advice

reposted questions here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=203368

yes i think the leopard disk should work on a non-intel computer because my brother used the same disk to install on his dual-processor G5.

any other ideas?
