Hi everybody,

i finally succeeded in installing ideneb 10.5.8 on following hardware:

AMD Phenom II x4 965

Gigabyte Ma790xt-ud4p

4gb ddr3 1600mhz

GeForce 9400gt

everything works quite good exept my Tl-wn851n WLAN card. Many users here and the osx86 wiki said that this card will Run natively without any kexts. Mine doesn't ;-)

OSX86 Tools says following:

03:07.0 Network controller [0208]: Atheros Communications Inc. Unknown Device [168c:0029] (rev 01)

Does anyone have a working Driver for me or maybe a step by step guide to get this card working.

I would really really appreciate it.

Greetings

Feitlinger

P.S.: in the ideneb 1.6 installation i took only these patches:

ATI/AMD chipset driver

qoopz 9.8 kernel

nvdarwin 512mb

realtek 8111 Network driver

no fixes and other patches

I have the same wirless pci card Tl-wn851n the same dev id i try with leopard IPC 10.5.6, Iatkos v7, Snow Leopard with the same problem. The problem i think is dev id 168c,0029 is posible to have a pci card with another revision with this different id because in IO80211Family.kext, atheros kext it's only this string<string>pci168c,1c</string> <string>pci168c,23</string><string>pci168c,24</string> native is no way to work so i put my dev id 168c,0029 but airport do not apears!

in HCL http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/HCL#Wireless i see this user have id 0x168C, 0x3079 his reporting woking card. Maybe is diferent chipset?! my card have AR922X. I reach to end of my knowledge!

In system preference/kext load i dont see any atheros kext load, and section pci card its nothing there

Sombody light me what to do?

I concur. I have just bought a TL-WN851N PCI Wireless 'N' card (Ver 2.1) and it is not recognised by my D975XBX2 (Bad Axe 2) Motherboard with iAtkos v7.

I too checked the Wiki before purchasing and got this model specifically because it was listed as running without kexts.

If anyone has got this working please post.

Rich

My House is Full of Hackintoshes...

  1. Acer A150L on 105.8
  2. HP 550 on 10.5.8
  3. Toshiba nb-100 on 10.5.7
  4. Gigabyte GA-EP45-UDR3 on 10.5.8 & 10.6.2
  5. Intel DG965SS on 10.5.8 (Media Center w PLEX and XBMC)

All perfectly running... picked as MacBook, MacBook, MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, Mac Pro respectively...

4 & 5 on WIFI TKIP getting 150 /AES 300MB using the TP-LINK TL-WN 851 N 300 M Wireless PCI Adapter which I purchased from Amazon UK, HD Video Stream, Gaming, Data OS X Screenshare, etc.. AL WORKING!!!. This card works OUT OF THE BOX!!!! picked up as a real AIRPORT without ANYTHING no kext or weird complicated edits... the link is this one though if you happen not to be able to click on it above. - http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-WN-851-...r/dp/B0019EMF2M

I tested these cards on 10.5.X all the way to 10.6.2 and also on my old REAL Powermac G4... so I dont know what the hell is that they are really talking about - this is nonsense... I even emailed TP-LINK on the compatibility so incredible with OS X and they said they are aware of it but cant claim compatibility for legal issues... BUY THIS CARD BECAUSE IT WORKS!!!! - those who said it doesn't work, are maybe working for APPLE or simply not installing their motherboard properly.

v2.1 here running 10.6.3 (runs reaaaaaally smooth, must fix KP at logout yet) with dev 168c:0029

airport doesn't show up anything, neither PCI cards menu under System Profiler

I've modified dev ID on Atheros.kext and Atheros21.kext

things I'll try next:

- kext uploaded by ihatelife

- boot with -x32 flag

- Atherosfix.kext from netkas

will update when finished

Now it's working!

Only had to modify Atherosfix.kext from netkas, and install it.

Working flawlessly on -x64

System profiler Airport (never showed up inside "PCI cards")

-x64

Airport working (only had to type security password)

Well I guess one possible choice would be to upgrade to SL.

Currently running 10.5.8. According to the box I have version 2 and osx86tools says rev 01.

I've tried editing the IO80211 kext and adding strings but that didn't work... (Do I need to compile the kext package after editing the files inside or is just editing files and saving then adding the edited package with kext helper okay?) Tried the uploaded kext but that isn't working on my leopard install. I even tried AtherosFix.kext but I'm fairly sure that's only does anything for 10.6.x.

I don't want to upgrade to SL (don't own it and don't want to repatch everything), so I'm willing to try pretty much anything else.

Ok so here is the modified IO80211Family.kext, replace this to get the card with dev id 168c:0029 working under 10.6.0, haven't tested under later versions but I would expect it to work, thought I'd throw this out there for people still struggling with this issue

Anybody make it work under 10.6.4?

I always get a kernel panic while it's getting an ip....

are you on an i5 or i7 based CPU? Apparently this card is incompatible with those CPU's.

I just got this card up and running on 10.6.2, will report any issues. Used wakasaki's provided kext, thanks wakasaki!

It works fine with my core i7 in Windows 7, but I get kernel panics and freezing like crazy if I try to use it in 10.6.4 with the kext that wakasaki provided.

Has anyone got this card working in 10.6.4 with an i7?

(I have version 2.0 of the card)
