Noob with a few Q's

Okay, so I've read about the procedures for doing a boot-camp re-partition after Snow Leopard already been installed and been living on your mac a while, but I'm buying a new internal hard drive and Im curious as to whether or not there's a better way to install both from the get-go since I'll be doing a fresh install.

The other question I have is in regards to Windows 7's compatibility with my machine. I have a Late 2006-Mid 2007 model MacBook Pro (Machine ID: MacBookPro2,1; Model #: A1212) with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, 3GB Ram and the 2.33 Core 2 Duo "Merom" chip (64-bit) and yet my machine doesn't show up on Apple's Windows 7 Supported list or their Vista Supported list. Am I SOL in this department or is there a workaround? What's preventing me from installing Vista or preferably Windows when both my chip and the OS's are based on 64-bit tech?

My biggest reason for wanting Vista or 7 is DirectX 10+ and gaming, don't know if that complicates anything, but there it is. Any help, opinions or suggestions (minus ridicule) will be welcome. Thanks in advance.
