dponmac Posted June 19, 2006 Share Posted June 19, 2006 Is anyone else annoyed by how unfactual their new ads are?? 1. they're comparing their theirselves, to the "pc". Last time I checked, technically now they're both pc's one just has an apple logo on the box 2. the thing that really annoyed me was I saw their latest ad last night, and they compared how "not fun" a PC is, and then compared how pc's use spreadsheets and word documents, and on an apple, you can "record your family vacations" all the pc had to say was.. I can run the lastest games on a wide variety of hardware. I think that woulda shut the apple guy up! I mean you can basically do same same thing on either an Apple, or a "PC" especially since bootcamp came out. Don't get me wrong I find the commercials funny, but i just find them to be more propaganda than anything else. Only people that would buy into this commericials would really have to be uneducated. I'm sure there is a good amount of them in the world, but last time I checked my pie graph on my PC, the more intelligent ones make more money. And considering Apple's prices on their hardware, maybe they should rethink what the commercials actually say. ok i'm down ranting.. I'll be back I gotta restart my PC its gonn... When I've brought this up before on other forums, I got bashed saying that Macs have superior hardware to PCs. The fact is, that they don't have superior hardware, the operating system is just nice. I could build a much faster, powerful system for the same price as they're charging for any of their systems. Of course, in my opinion they win when it comes to the external design of their systems... *drewls* so sleek and sexy. It's the same thing with the Intel switch commercial. "Dutifully performing, dull little tasks", my PC is performing a lot of cool tasks in all three operating systems I've got on it. You cant make movies on them. PCs are for nerdy fat people. PCs get BSOD every 1.3 seconds. Mac pros. You can play iTunes. You can make movies on them. They have iLife. Macs dont get viruses. I love playing games in Windows, although I'd much rather play them in Linux or OS X. There are some very powerful video editing programs for Windows, so that rules out the "You can't make movies on them". I use Windows, and I'm not fat, although I am geek. I think everyone here can be considered a geek, especially with a post count of 495. No, Windows doesn't get a BSOD every 1.3 seconds. Infact, I can't recall the last time I got one. Windows has iTunes, I'm using it right now. No, Windows doesn't have iLife, but it does have some alternatives. There are a few hundred viruses known to OS X. Macs just work, yes for the most part. I've seen OS X screwed up beyond reasoning and I've had an eMac die on me at school. My PC works just as well as a Mac, I just don't like Windows that much. In one ad the pc says "scheisse" that means "{censored}" and in the virus ad the pc sneezes and the mac says "gesundheit" that means "bless you" why they do so??? Pixelation Posted June 22, 2006 Share Posted June 22, 2006 The whole thing is annoying. You really can't compare Mac to PC because you're comparing apples to.. well.. apples. (no pun intended). It's comparing Mac to WINDOWS that's unfactual. Let's not forget what "P.C." stands for, "Personal Comptuer." I've made the mistake too, calling a Mac a Mac and Windows a PC, but still they're both the same, and they are both different. Mac or Windows. You can still preform (almost) all of the same tasks on either system. It's all a factor of personal preferance and what interface you want to use. Personally, I'm a Mac guy stuck in a PC world. And they can't go say, "well those Intel and AMD computers..." because, well.. Intels are inside Macs, which I'm still at little sketchy on, but that's a different topic for a different day. So, no, you wouldn't see Dell vs. Compaq commercials because both machines are capable of sharing the same hardware and the same OS, so really there's nothing to compare, in my opinion. Apple is trying to sell that their OS is better than others, and it is. Windows offers you countless ways to do the same task. Like, deleting a file. You can press delete on the keyboard, right-click, and select delete, go to File > Delete, drag it to the Recycle Bin (which M$ totally ripped from Apple), and if you've customized your toolbars (as I have) you have the option of adding a red X on the toolbar to delete. That's what, 5 different ways to delete something? Come on! Apple, just drag it to the trash can. Apple is in the market of sell computers with their OS. Windows-based computer manufactors, really don't know (or care at times) what you do with you're new HP or IBM. You could go in, format the drive and install RedHat. They have their money for the hardware they sold you. Again, this is all just my personal opinion. Yes, Apple's latest adds are... not as truthful as they really should be, or as kind as they should be. But they can't come out and say "Windows sucks, and OS X is better." Not just for copyright/trademark issue for saying "Windows" because, after all, Microsoft has invested into Apple and owns part/portions of the Apple Comptuer Inc company. And something like that might make Microsoft stop production on Virtual PC for Mac, Office for Mac, and some other programs that potentally saved Apple in the mid to late 1990s, (around 1995 to 1999 or so). A commercial oriented around the use of a mac. The bundled software, etc. So far, all it's doing is saying "I can do stuff a PC cant" when a PC absolutly can. "I'm a Mac, but I can read Office documents, and connect to a Windows network, but I can also use the latest digital camera right out've the box, when Windows has to do driver installation and etc..etc..etc..." I don't remember exactly, but it's the commerical that the Mac and PC "have a little network going" then the girl (digital camara from Japan) comes along and the PC is cofused. That one makes me a bit upset. Just as with any new hardware (camera, printer, harddrive, etc) it has to be recongized by the OS. Yes, you're more likely going to have to reboot with Windows to get it working, but it'll still pretty much work out've the box. It's just that Mac OSX includes iPhoto which reconigzes it, launches, and downloads the pictures. Too bad Apple didn't release a PC version of iLife or iWork. That would've been nice.
