Virtualize a non-BootCamp partition

I am unable to create a new Boot Camp partition (gives me an error that says could not move files - which is strange in and of itself, as I have about 70GB free space and had just reinstalled the OS less than a month ago). I have VirtualBox, and a trial of VMWare Fusion. I created a partition in Disk Utility. I would like to use VirtualBox to virtualize this partition when I am using my mac. I had found some threads showing how to make it work by using internalcommands etc. to create a raw vmdk file, but for some reason it is not working correctly. Has anyone managed to get this to work?

And in VMWare Fusion, I accidentally deleted the Boot Camp VM from the Library - how do I get this back?

Thanks!
