Great. If the iDeneb doesn't work I'll order that one since it's a measly 20 dollars, roughly :-)

But are going to give the iDeneb a go in 30 minutes or so :-D

Thx ! :-)

It's been quite a ride these past few days, but I am actually beginning to think this

might work :-D

will hopefully post result in just around 10 minutes, if I can get the OS X to boot without kernel panic and the LAN to work in post install :-D

Okay, so, now I was able to complete the installation, but, when removing the install DVD, my comp. automatically boots to Win7.

There's a brief screenshot in the top left corner with 2 lines of text, can't really make them out, but the first one is 0:MBR

Do I miss something here? :)

the 100 mb Partition is usually the GUID partition, not used by OS X but it's strange that it's only 100 mb, my GUID part is always 200 mb big. but thats most likely not the problem.

now maybe you can try stopping at bootprompt and using parameter rd=disk0, since the installation is on disk now this should get it booting

Just did that. Didn't work. So installing again. This time I completely wiped disk0 in Mac installer, partitioned as GUID and then erased again, now installing. Who knows, might have sone something to my Win7 install well just tough noodles :-D then

THAT DID IT !!! :-D

Now I jus got to get the rift next for

my mobo :-D

Dough. Forgot to customize :-D

Well, here we go again :-D

And now sound's working as well !!!

Download this

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showforum=104

From within Tiger :: Use disk utility to partition External (GUID option) 2 partitions 1 10G called install - the rest called snow

With disk utility retore snow install DVD to partition Install

Sill within Tiger navigate to Install/system/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg

this might help

Install to partition Snow of external disk, don't install languages or printer drivers.

Don't restart yet. Run myhack installer you downloaded earlier. point it to snow partition, select customise options needed.

**** I have installed straight from dvd without restoring to the install partition******

Time to restart. Pick the external drive as start disk. Should come up with chameleon bootloader, arrow keys give start options Verbose etc)

thats it I think Good luck

why restoring the dvd to the partition when you can start install straight from the SL DVD?

just navigate to the /Volumes/<insert your DVDs name here>/System/installation/packages/ folder. from here just run OSInstall.mpkg

you have to create the GUID partition before you run OSInstall.mpkg, just use Disk Utility, create one or more partitions in GUID scheme on your external USB drive

after install has finished, you just have to install chameleon onto the external USB drive, that's almost all. just add needed kexts and reboot from the USB drive

Yes but some have found that they have problems installing straight from DVD, but have not have had any body having problems with the restore method. Try DVD method first.

The myhack installer installs chameleon bootloader & has the kext in the install package that you pick in the customise screen

He he... both of you, thank you very much for this guide - will most definately try this, when I get home from work today (yup, working overtime on a Sunday :( )

If this works, I'll compose a guide for people with the specific hardware I have, since I've had a hard time finding a guide that suits 100 %, so had to get help from you guys, plus a S#%&load of other guides ;)

...thank you very much for this guide...

I just got to thinking, will it even work for me, installing from the DVD, when I had such a hard time with Waiting for Root Device, installing Tiger?

Oh, well, just have to try.. otherwise, it's on to the restore option :D

By the way, guys, when I try to update the iTunes in Tiger, I'm asked for at password (the username box thingy appears), and when I type in the password for my user account for the OS X install, it states it's the wrong password !?!

Is this just a case of mistyping, or perhaps I need to be logged in as administrator (is it called... root?) :)

by installing from DVD i mean installing directly under OSX (iDeneb tiger in your case). Since iDeneb seems to include drivers for your PATA-Controller - otherwise you wouldnt have been able installing iDeneb itself - this shouldnt be a problem any longer.

you just go with finder to the packages folder by starting a terminal under Applications/Utilities then typing "open /Volumes/<OSX 10.6 DVD name>/System/installation/packages" or just get this app for showing hidden files as Dave mentioned, then you can simply navigate thru the System folder and so on. Once there, just start the setup (OSInstall.mpkg at this point you need your GUID formatted disk already, just use Disk Utility before). The whole installation runs under OSX then and you can skip the steps for restoring the DVD to a partition and booting from it.

the password for your iDeneb distribution might be set already, try to look it up in the readme. even if you have created a user yourself the first user which might have existed already becomes an administrator. but in the end i dont know iDeneb ofc :)

Great, will get to it maybe tonight, or maybe tomorrow - the ex wife wants to have a sit-down to work things out, so probably need to see to her, as well, but as soon as that's taken care of it's all :(

I'll also be fine tuning the guide for Asus P5Q SE mobo, with the same CPU and GPU and DVD drive as mine, so hopefully in a day or so, that will be up here on the board as well, and, if all goes well, I'll, with PDAVE54's permission, of course, I'll post a second guide, on how to go Vanilla style on Snow, on the same hardware - if it works - just need to test it, before I post it :thumbsup_anim:

Of course, both you, Stream, and PDAVE are being creditted in both guides, since you guys were the ones that helped me through 3 long nights of endless head-against-the-wall-bashing, encouraging me to go on, and try a different approach, so, get ready for your 15 minutes of fame, guys !!! :)

All good advice. One other way to open the packages folder without terminal. In finder the go menu, go to folder...OSX 10.6 DVD name>/System/installation/packages...(OSinstall.mpkg..NOT OSinstall.pkg)

The myhack install also has the pata driver kext, restart kext, guid kext etc.

tbukdahl One thing I haven't mentioned before. I don't know how big your external drive is, what I did was have a partition to install on & another for backup. If I buggered up when trying to get audio working for example, I just cloned across my backup.

It's 350gb drive, with around 30Gb not used. So some heavy cleaning is needed before installation of Snow :-)

But I'm definately going to try this. Say, we're talking vanilla pure retail here, right!?!

That means even thou I'm not on Apple hardware I'd be able to run all updates no matter what, yes ?

Well to partition it GUID you are going to lose that data, any chance of getting another drive to put in the case, you don't need to buy a new entire thing, does not have to be as big either. I know in my case people who upgrade give me old 40 & 60 etc drives

I have never used iDeneb so don't know if it uses a vanilla kernel for Tiger or a modified kernel or gives an option for either. If you used the vanilla kernel for Tiger I can't see why a vanilla kernel for Snow would not work. The myhack installer has the option for both Vanilla & what he call chocolate (snow legacy) kernels. Some mobos like mine will not run a vanilla kernel even though it has intel processor & chipset. I can still do the updates with a little extra effort.

Okay, I want to thank both of you guys for helping me out testing and installing and testing, getting the OS X to work.

I'll try out to go Snow (hopefully Vanilla) as soon as I can find the time, however, me and the mrs. decided to give it another go last night, so, it'll probably be a couple of days, before I'm able to try it.

But, as usual, I'll post back here, as soon as I've gotten it to work, or crashed to BIOS ;)
