Is it possible to Remap Folder locations?

Under your short name (or acount name) in the Finder Window, there are media folders such as Pictures, Music, Movies and Documents. Essentially this is the same as My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, etc. in Windows. In Windows XP you also have the option of remapping these folders to other locations on your comoputer. In my situation, I have My Documents, My Music, and My Pictures seperated and on my non-system drive. All relative shortcuts are remapped and the OS knows to go to those locations (X:\My Music for instance). Is it possible to do the same in OS X with it's media folders?

Yes

 

BUT, such a thing could break a lot of applications, so you will need to place an alias to the new folder in your home directory to keep those applications happy.

So are you saying to use whatever folders I want to use and to replace the media folders in the acount directory with aliases?

Yes, but when making the alias, it most likely has to be called "Documents," "Music," etc
